Just go to page one of this thread, it's there.

I have applied the ROM and it is quite cool, I'm happy HTC task manager was left out, because it WAS buggy in helmi_c's release.

However, pBar is a piece of crap, my apologies to the developer but that is my honest opinion.

Magic Button, however, is terrific, and what I used in the WM5 days.

Van G 02-13-2008 02:32 PM

Just gave this ROM a go. Thanks Rob. Interested in hearing what others are currently using for the following:
Task Manager:
Menu Mod:
Ring Tone :)

Are there install instructions for this version? I have only ever upgraded my rom once and am not sure on the procedures. I haven't unzipped the file yet, so if there are already instructions I apologize. But if not, could someone point me in the right direction? thanks

I feel ya, but I think you are missing one of the best features of the phone. Don't use dial up use tethering/internet sharing instead.

Hopefully Rob has already sent your disc.

Re: Apache WM6 Clean, No Junk Version

Hi gguruusa,

My bubble was burst when I used the latest kitchen to build what I thought was a very simple and straightforward custom WM6 ROM. Its my 5th time upgrading (3 times on 3.x and two on WM6, one on the Oct, the second on the latest). After this latest install the phone was locking up constantly and draining the battery at 4 times the previous rate. While traveling I decided to use Rob's (helmi based) WM6 Verizon ROM . I can see why people here seem more excited about Rob's work than helmi's. The upgrade took no decisions and it works well. A phone that doesn't work can be a disaster (was for me this week) . Rob is performing the services of what's termed a VAR in our business. He's taking technical tools that can be dangerous in the hands of an average 6700 owner and creating something that works and is easy to install. Not all people have the time to experiment with the kitchen and rebuild after failed upgrades. I'm posting this so users trying to make up their minds about whether to upgrade know there's potential for failure using the kitchen but with Rob's (helmi based) WM6 ROM their phone will work.

Re: Apache WM6 Clean, No Junk Version

maybe someone can help me..im coming from helmis cooked wm6 ..trying to change to this clean wm6...anyways when i try to do this, i place the ppc into bootloader and the program says:
___________________________________
Error 150: Rom Upgrade utility error
This rom upgrade utility is not designed for your device. Please get the proper ROM upgrade utility and try again
___________________________________

now i KNOW this works becuase i used the clean wm6 before i used helmis cooker for wm6..so can someone explain why this cannot flash over the clean wm6?

Re: Apache WM6 Clean, No Junk Version

YEAH!!!!!!! I FINALLY GOT IT DOWNLOADED!!!!!! installed it, checking it out now and i LOVE IT! only one problem. when the phone first came back on i got a message that "sddaemon cannot be opened" and that it couldn't be found? what is this? where do i find it and what do i do?????

Only other complaint i have is that i dont like the colors it has. grey? blaa! so i'm gonna see about downloading some skins and i gotta get tunes too! but other than that i love it!

Re: Apache WM6 Clean, No Junk Version

Okay, last night when i finished downloading this it was after 1am so i couldnt exactly try the phone then, but today when i went to use it i found that 1. my contact list cant be pulled up and 2. half the time the phone just doesnt even ring. i guess thats what the sddaemon that it couldnt open is about? message with that file was "the file 'sddaemon' cannot be opened. either it is not signed with a trusted certificate, or one of its components cannot be found. if the problem persists, try reinstalling or restoring this file". Well, the problem is persisting. suggestions on what to do?? PLEASE????

Did you hard reset the phone after you flashed the ROM?

Re: Apache WM6 Clean, No Junk Version

hi Rob! (god are YOU a sight for sore eyes!!!)
Yes, i did hard reset it. still no go. so i backed up the stuff i wanted to back up and went back to factory default and now i'm going to reload your program and see if that helps anything. good idea? or do you have other suggestions?

Don't be ridiculous. You didn't have to experiment if you didn't want to. The default selections file in the kitchen will build a perfectly functional WM6 phone that works - and you won't have to make a single decision. The beauty of the kitchen is that not only can you make a variety of pre-made roms easily, you can customize them IF you want to. You don't have to.

If you built a ROM 6 times, it must not have been that dangerous :-)

You'll notice from the prior few posts that you don't necessarily end up with a working phone when you use a premade rom, either. Upgrading is a complicated process, far from perfect no matter how you do it.

My point, btw, was that pre-made ROM distribution is a dying concept, not that there is something wrong with Rob's ROM (other than the original C&S designation - I see it's been appropriately relabeled to just C now). Heck, I use someone else's ROM too (I don't have time to experiment either) - but since mine was built in the kitchen, I don't have to configure or reload anything when I'm done flashing, no matter who's ROM definition I use. That's simply awesome.

Your right, this has been addressed elsewhere on the site although I can't remember where. I know that this is a general Apache WM6 problem though. The kitchen guys (I think) are working on WM6.1 and that includes threaded SMS, which will probably take care of the problem. There is also a threaded SMS .cab floating around here somewhere, maybe you could grab that and it might fix it for the time being. The kitchen crew would probably have more insight into the issue, I don't really use SMS that much anyway.

gguru, do you have any idea's about this?

Re: Apache WM6 Clean, No Junk Version

Hey Robmayer,
Just wanted to send you a thanks. I've downloaded a lot of different apps for my Apache & this is by far my favorite. Not only do I have more memory, but the device boots faster, opens programs faster & is simply easier to use. Sprint is too cheap to release WM6 for its customers (be warned potential Sprint Customers!!!)

I've added Live Search, Netfront 3.5, Pocket Plus (I don't use the today screen, but the other upgrads are great,) and Yahoo Go. It's made my little old phone like new again!

Thanks...

Why are you warning potential Sprint Customers? Just tell them to come here and turn their phone into something useful :-).

Re: Apache WM6 Clean, No Junk Version

I have an XV6700 which I flashed to AKU 3.3 from utstar.com. I would like to flash to WM6, but when I have yried to do so using various ROMs, I get a variety of ROM error. I have bootloader 1.04 and haved tried to use RobMayer's ROM w/o success.

Does the upgrade to WM6 work with a 1.04 bootloader? Do I have to create my own ROM (looks like a long process to know what needs to be in or out of OEM folders).

Did you read the post prior to yours? He has the same setup you have.

MarkGleisner
What's difficult is knowing what the various OEMs do. It's akin to going to a restaurant with a big menu, and not recognizing the nams of the dishes. They all are edible, but which is best to you? It's simple enough to get a working WM6 rom, but people feel the need to achieve perfection once it's within reach.

At any rate, no, you don't have to use the kitchen. You can revert your bootloader and use Rob's rom (you'll need the NoID loader), or, he might even have a 1.04/2.04/2.05 version available (I wouldn't know)

Dude, chill. Your phone was borked long before I started talking to you. My point was that the poster before you had the exact same problem, tried Rob's rom, and had no success. It wasn't particularly likely that you would succede (and you didn't).

Now, as far as following directions to the letter, I don't know where the downgrade file you got came from, but you were apparently missing the downgraded bootloader file and that's where things went wrong. We probably could have gotten your phone recovered, given enough time.

I know you're just upset that your phone isn't working, but honestly, you're doing something way beyond your skill level and you're awfully impatient. Slow down.

Update: He's all happy now. Not only did he have problems w/ his downgrade files, but he has some Vista problem that causes the RUU utility to fault (reinstalling MDC didn't help). Fortunately, he has a 2nd computer that doesn't exhibit this problem.

What weather app do you use in your today screen theme. I cant seem to download any data into it. Is there a way to replace the one you have with the phatphinger weatherpanel or can you create another theme like that. Also are you going to create a 6.1??? Other than that I love it and thanks...keep up the good work
