No, not a dumb question at all. I have the "announce notifications using Bluetooth hands free only" radio button selected and "only during free time" is not selected. As far as I know, that should work, but doesn't.

Also, under phone I have "announce incoming calls" checked.

EDIT: never mind, I think I figured it out. However, it works properly only sporadically.

Hi meh123 - what did you figure out to make it work even sporadically? I have the announce incoming selected and the notifications is on phone and wired headset, and the only announce when free is not checked. Is there something else I'm missing b/c I can't get it to work? Also did you have to install any other files? I installed vc 1.6 and stupid of me expected it to work.

Cano - which file did you find? Was it the IDTrasnfer file? I haven't loaded yet, but was wondering if there was a way to get it working without additional software. Thanks!

No, I didn't install anything new. The settings (that work) that I have are as follows:

start -> settings -> voice command -

Main Screen - Enabled (checked), password protected (checked).
Under phone (click options) - Confirm when calling by name (checked), confirm when dialing by number (checked), announce incoming calls (checked).

Under phone (notification options) - I have the radio button for announce notifications using blutooth hands free only selected. Nothing else.

These are the settings that have worked for me 6700noobie.

CanoSpinach -- what file are you referring to -- there's a lot of stuff in the thread you've linked to? Thanks.

Well, I can't seem to even get the phone speaker to announce the caller ID with WM6 and MSVC 1.6 -- and yes, it is set to announce it. Any further thoughts? Thanks.

I can't get mine to announce anything either. It works perfectly, except for the incoming announcements.

I hope someone finds a solution to this as I'd really like to use WM6.

This should be what your looking for. Its a fix for the Helmi WM6 Apache Bluetooth challenges.

Thans Canospinach -- I'll look at that, though I don't know if it addresses my issue. I don't hear the MSVC caller id annoucement even from the phone speaker, so it is an MSVC issue, not a BT or IDTransfer issue.
