Anyone have one for Verizon, or know how to make it work for Verizon? I'm going nuts without my threaded SMS, lol..

thanks!

I'm interested in making it work with Alltel. Anyone have any ideas?

ryncppr 09-04-2007 12:06 AM

The PALM Threaded SMS never was able to send files on Verizon. It was used only as a SMS alternative to the crappy software that was on the phone.

You always needed to used MMS to send pics or video on Verizon!!!

Omegax, did you have to change any of the manual settings to get it to work for you?

The shogunmark threader also does not work for me.

I think this may be a carrier-specific problem. Sounds like none of the Verizon users are able to get any of the Palm threaded apps to work. I could get the trianglepowers version to work okay, but, no offense, it really is nothing close to the Palm app. The Palm threader's integration with the contact database is what really makes it indispensable to me.

I'll gladly donate money to anyone who can get the real Palm threader to work with Verizon on WM6... :D

omegax 09-04-2007 01:28 PM

somehow the txt where making there way to txt message retry. then sending from there. Now its officially broken.

i will second that.. i love wm6 no freeze up or non of the problems i've had in the past with the 3.5 as stable as it was wm6 is like having a new phone.. but i dont know how much longer i can go without palm sms, as fun as wm6 is palm sms was a big part of me not crushing this phone(i was a 650 user before i got my ppc)

right now i am using the trianglepowers threader but its nothing close to what most of us are used to

I'm using PocketCM's threaded feature. And i think I like it better than the Palm app! The notifications are the same & it allows you to change the read/unread state so that they won't just sit in the standard SMS app unread. ... The color coding is nice. And, of course, the finger scrolling is great too.

If only there was a way to map the text MSG button on the HTC home app to open PocketCM, that would just seal it for me! But, right now, I'm cool without the Palm App.

Try it!

jkennington 09-04-2007 02:45 PM

Just make sure that if you use the PocketCM program you dont have the Palm app installed. I think that is the reason that it only tells you about sent messages. Because I think the palm app stores them differently.

I have yet to try and install the program without the palm app (because I love it too much to see it go :) ) but this is going to keep me at 3.5

JK

definitely not a carrier specific problem as its happening on sprint too.

I can almost guarantee this is a mismatch of a file type within the install. I helped beta test the original versions of the palm SMS threader (before it had to be taken off here and XDA). This problem (almost exact same problem) popped up before, because the Palm SMS files were taken off a newer AKU and because of the way it interacts with the original mail program, we needed to include the updated versions of several system files. Now from what Helmi has said, the version of WM6 that we are using is built off a NEWER version of wm6, hence why it probably works on the 6800 and other WM6 PDAs. My theory is that we will probably have to use a downgraded version of the mail program (and associated necessary files) OR wait til the Treo 750 gets an update to this newer version of WM6 (which may never happen). If im correct, then the palm SMS program wont work on whatever device this rom was pulled off of.

markppc6700 09-04-2007 04:44 PM

for not it look like you have to go thru pocketcm. I've made the suggestion that they break this sms program out into a stand alone app, we'll see where that goes though. i'll admit it's annoying that it doesnt default to it.

markppc6700 09-04-2007 07:51 PM

yeah thats the only down part i wish it just replaced the sms app in wm6 then it will be the palm sms killer LOL because there is no way i would go back to palm..
the only reason i really really liked palm is that after chatting with my jump offs all day i can delete the chat when i go home to my wifie and leave all the chats with my boys in there so if she checks it i am in no trouble LOL, when deleting all the messages it seems suspect

InvincibleLiving 09-04-2007 08:05 PM

Aw man stop that, your gonna get caught...

markppc6700 09-04-2007 09:13 PM

haha jk but they need to separate the program though i've been messing with it for an hr .. so far its cool but i still miss palm..

datacron 09-04-2007 10:24 PM

The threaded SMS issue is the only thing stopping me from sticking with WM6.

omegax 09-04-2007 10:31 PM

if you guys a leaving wm6 because of threaded sms DO IT. If that benefit outweighs all the perks of wm6 then you dont need the updated ROM. Wait for the kitchen.

eyeballz 09-04-2007 11:51 PM

this makes the most sense of any speculation that we are throwing around. If this is true, then once a kitchen comes down the pipes we should be able to "downgrade" the outlook mail files (and probrably lose the stupid html email garbage) but none-the-less have a working program.

I dunno, i suppose ill just sit tight on AKU 3.5 until there is some sort of solution.

markppc6700 09-05-2007 12:29 AM

i went back to 3.5 cant do the pocketcm ... waiting on the kitchen

It's got potential, but it really misses the mark for me compared to the palm threader. Plus, it seems pretty buggy right now and, from what I can tell, it needs to be running to intercept incoming messages.

I do a lot of emailing through SMS (to Skytel pagers, for example) and the palm app is absolutely brilliant for this. I can select email addresses from any of the contact's email fields (email, email2, email3 -- I use them all) and it would maintain separate threads to those addresses. This app only allows me to select the "email" field within the program's contact list and I still have to send the initial message through the standard messaging app before it will start a thread.

The finger scrolling is cool and all, but for SMS threading, it needs work.

eyeballz 09-05-2007 12:50 AM

will the 750 wm6 upgrade that was just released help us out with this task?

It seems to be available in a zip file from palm if you look hard. Serial # not required for the files.

Awesome! Hopefully someone with the expertise can extract the app (assuming it's still in the build) and come up with a cab for it... and/or an OEM for the kitchen. :D

markppc6700 09-05-2007 12:05 PM

so i went back to 3.5 installed palm and i installed pocketcm because i like the style of the contacts list but every time i get a text though palm pocket cm pops up too. so i had to get rid of it.. i hope the makers of pocketcm read my email and separate the sms from the contact list then it will be perfect.

btw eyeballz thanks for that find i hope some wiz on here manages to crack that and get it working on wm6 because there is a lot of people on here that use palm threader for more than just chatting with friends.. i myself like hefman use it all day to email my reps on skytel

eyeballz 09-05-2007 12:49 PM

My pleasure, that was the first step ..getting around the serial validation to download the nbf fie contained in the zip.

You are right someone should be able to extract it from the rom if its there. Not me though. Im not the guy.

Let me repeat this , I am not the guy/girl that will extract the Palm SMS app from the WM6 rom. Im just the encourager :)

unitypunk 09-05-2007 02:48 PM

i think pcm is working pretty good.. i can do without threadded..

<3 wm6

did any1 take a look at eyeballz link?

I'm hoping someone with the expertise is already aware of it and working on it, but I wouldn't know who that would be. I doubt the Palm 700w/wx folks care, because they don't have WM6 yet and it works fine for WM5. It seems to work on other WM6 devices too. So... I think it's going to have to be someone on here...

I checked Treocentral.com and was reading about this ROM. The Palm threader is included, so it could conceivably be ripped from this ROM.

I'm back on AKU3.5 because of this and the wifi issue, but my offer still stands to pay money to anyone who can get it working. I'll start the bidding at 30 bucks. If it's Helmi, I'll just add to what I already plan on paying him when the first kitchen comes out... :D

nemanracing 09-06-2007 07:26 PM

does anyone know if the build number is equal or higer than the one we have for WM6? If it is then we may have hope.

eyeballz 09-06-2007 08:37 PM

Palm 750 WM6 Build Info:

The release version firmware appears to be “CE OS 5.2.1239 (Build 17746.0.2.4)”.

http://farm2.static.flickr.com/1303/...8f734456bb.jpg

takmsdsm 09-07-2007 12:56 AM

and ours is... Apache WM6 CE OS 5.2.1620 (Build 18125.0.4.2) so ours is still newer then that release.

markppc6700 09-07-2007 02:44 AM

y do we have to be so advanced? lol

eyeballz 09-07-2007 07:40 AM

This is moot until someone who knows what their doing take a look. Thats not me. Ive made a cab before and changes some things but nothing elaborate like this. This will require trial and error of all the different versions of dlls ext included with the installation of the famed threaded sms app

takmsdsm 09-07-2007 10:23 AM

i started looking into it last night. may take a while.

redz1234 09-09-2007 10:11 AM

any further progress getting palm threaded working on wm6?
