Updated 3/23 The Apache Lives on.... WM6.5 pics

I successfully booted WM6.5 (full sys 21159) on a G3 1.00 bootloader device and due to the overclocking ability of its processor it actually ran smoother than on my vogue. This is extremely beta and just tried it to see if it could be done.

This is not meant to be a daily use rom and is extremely beta and is meant for a preview only. There will be many bugs and the purpose of this post at this point is not to get a perfectly working 6.5 on apache but to show that it could run on an apache. Apache included wm6.5 is not stable enough yet to run on any device as a daily use phone.

Nicely done Dellisdee .... I've been following your posts and have been running your unofficial 21015 on my Apache for the last few days (works great by the way!). I hope you're able to release 6.5 soon. If you need someone to test your current rom I'm available.

For now as long as your bootloader is compatible you can flash preview as it wont do any harm phone wise. However, you will have no working data unless on vzw. You can still preview IE on wifi.

I have bootloader 2.0.2, is there any chance of this in the future if not currently? I am on VZW so that's a nice start :)

Never been sure what the difference in boot loaders was anyways though.

I recently just bought the Apache on VZW just to use the WMWifirouter app. I successfully installed WM6.1 on it now I am hoping this 6.5 rom comes out really soon for us to enjoy

drellisdee ... simply awesome! Only been playing with it for a few hours and I'm amazed at how fast it is. Like you warned in post 1 a few bugs but no deal breakers for me yet.

Thanks for your efforts!

I have bootloader 2.02 and when I tried to load it would get stuck in bootloader. So I copied the nk.nbf file and replaced it in an old 6.1 rom. It loaded fine and works great but a bit slow on the touch flow. But, hey it is a beta.

The full sys is too large to flash on a 2.05. It will need to be modified/reduced and/or bootloader downgraded. I just had my 2nd child born and have had little time lately for phones I'll play with it as time allows but probably wont put anything out untill the ppc kitchen releases a build os update to include the new reloc tool for wm6.5 so everyone can build it.

Got it flashed on my apache with 1.04 bootloader but wouldn't get past the second splash screen. Any chance this could be made into a kitchen form?

Yes but not till ppckitchen build os has a minor update. Also the preview rom is not for .04 and .05 bootloaders and flashing an improper rom may damage your phone.

how can i downgrade my bootloader?

dev131 02-25-2009 01:11 AM

Re: The Apache Lives on.... WM6.5 pics

my experience with this has been good. I have been using for last 2 days straight. Some of the things i noticed from ppc kitchen roms i also noticed in this rom.

With ppc kitchen latest buildos 20931 and 20755 both exhibit this.
1) microsoft voice command quits with low memory
2) device shuts off after four minutes with no key press (notice this during mp3 playback, etc (meaning i believe activesync is same way)
3) guru gave hack to disable power shutdown and this works

if they fix these issues with kitchen this will be the bomb!

6.5 is slow with scrolling in start menu but not so bad. even though i have sprint it worked fine for phone calls. didnt try text or cell internet WIFI works fine. Windows Media Player does not play anything.

Re: The Apache Lives on.... WM6.5 pics

I don't like it. Lol. It ran horible on my 6700, even when overclocked. The scrolling is also bad. The interface just looks very trashy to me... Good work though...

Re: The Apache Lives on.... WM6.5 pics

Trying to load it now but it won't get past the first splash screen with the radio version. Have Alltel with 1.0 Bootloader and 1.41 Radio. Any idea's?

Nevermind... Did a hard reset and it worked.

Alltel
-Text works
-Voice works
-Activesync works
-Pics/Video does the same thing the Arcsoft 5 does and will not send but does recieve.

I need to change the server settings from Verizon to Alltel.

tried to flash twice on boot loader 1.0. both times is just just stayed in bootloader after a hard. Just to make sure, I flashed back to a working 6.1 inbetween attempts.

Any idea why I couldn't even get it to boot?

Just installed it on my Telus UTStarcom 6700, seems to be working nicely so far. (I don't subscribe to a Telus service, I just use the WiFi)

But it's always nice to have something new to play with.

Nice demo. Thank you.

This is pretty cool news, I'm glad I kept my Apache lying around, there is something about that phone that won't die.

21169 Apache Beta up

Apache 6.5 Beta 21169 all bootloaders/carriers

This rom was made to fit a 2.05 bootloader and therefore is backwards compatable with all bootloader types just use your bootloader specific RUU (NOID if available). Arcsoft is not included so you will need to install your carriers version. If you have a carrier other than vzw you may need to change settings/connections to your carrier if data won't connect. If your bootloader type does not have a NOID RUU and it gives a carrier error you will need to supercid your phone.

Info on supercid is found in my post here its item #3 http://forum.ppcgeeks.com/showthread.php?t=20090

Special thanks to conflipper and DA_G for the work on sys 21169. I had to modify it a bit to fit it on apache and remove the extra dlls and exes (dunno why they were there as the modules that assemble them were there too) and use only the modules for it to fit (about 20mb worth of dlls and exes.)

Maybe a dumb question but, does this work with the existing kitchen? If so, where does it go??

Thanks

Its a rom file. You need to use the Rom Update Utility compatable with your bootloader to flash it.

Any ideas on when we can expect a BuildOS update that will allow this to be used in the kitchen?

Re: The Apache Lives on.... WM6.5 pics

Works pretty good. Works flawless with my sprint data. This will allow me to run a sdhc card, correct? I plan on using a 16gb microsdhc with mini adapter.

So you guys are using this rom with sprint and having no trouble making calls, data and text work as well? I may have to flash this as soon as I can if that is true.

Not sure but this rom was built using a test edition of ppc kitchen GGuruUsa made for me. All that needs to be done is implement wmreloc instead of greloc for 6.5 builds so its very minor and all the other tools work fine with 6.5.

dev131 03-03-2009 06:55 PM

Re: The Apache Lives on.... WM6.5 pics

i have been using this rom hours after it came out. IE still not as good as opera and windows media player doesnt play.

Alas you still need to edit the registry with this:
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Contro l\Power]
"DisableGwesPowerOff"=dword:1

otherwise if you are listening to music or watching a video (i use TCPMP) after 4 minutes device will shut off if you dont touch the screen or hit a hard key

Microsoft voice command is still quitting due to low memory (i only tested with 1.6 build 19971 )

storage card sometimes disappears but ejecting card and replacing it makes it come back not too often but enough to be annoying. (i am using a generic NON SDHC 2 gig card but have not had problems with any other non 6.5 builds)

if anyone can help fix these please post your solution and i hope this helps you Drellisdee to fix these because as i mentioned in previous post these problems (except for storage card problem) were evident in latest build of the PPC Kitchen.

Congrats on the new arrival, my boy is turning 2 this month :)

I also have a cab file that worked on WM6 that would stop activesync from starting but it doesnt work in 6.5 if anyone would like to attempt to make it work, it would be great addition to this rom. PM me if you would like it.
