hi, also just upgraded to kitchen. things look great but have a few issues on my sprint ppc-6700:

1. Yes HTC 2.0 weather giving "uable to retrieve data for selected city" error. looked through thread and couldn't find solution even though mentioned by post 168 and 190

2. PIE notes that the version has expired and can't use all options

3. Downladed "epocrates" to storage card but it downloaded to Extended ROM in the storage card???

4. ROM date under device information still says 8/13/07(Hemli version CE 5.2.16##) should that have chaged to 11/17/07??

5. Seen the OEM version 0722 in a different thread now. should we be upgrading to this now??? how does that work since upgrading to this kitchen. Do you just reinstall over the kitchen

1. You need an updated HTC Home OEM. I made one and it can be found in the "HTC Home Weather stopped working" (or something like that) thread that should still be on the first page of this forum. It's an OEM, so you'll need to put it in your USER_OEM folder and build again.

2. That is because you chose to include PIE+ in your ROM. It's shareware with no trial period. You'll need to buy a key to use it.

3. That is a common issue (not just with epocrates) when the ExtROM is unhidden. Either don't unclude the "Unlock ExtROM" OEM or rehide the extrom using the appropriate registry entries (searching this forum for "rehide extrom" should pull something up--if not post back here).

4. No, the ROM date will not change when the kitchen changes. That date is built into the kernel.

5. I believe that's just an update to the buildos.exe file. Simply extract it and replace the one in C:\BuildOS\BuildOS.

When i install epocrates, you can choose memcard or extrom, you should be able to put it on the card, i did notice it ran much slower when i had it on my card though.

I got MMS working by installing the Arcsoft MMS

Please don't post the same question in multiple threads.

The last two days, my Apache has started to not recognize my mSD card.
It only happens occasionally and always finds it again after a soft reset.
It's only become a problem when my scheduled backup doesn't happen because a)Sprite backup is installed on the card and b) the backups are stored on the card so there is no place to backup! I do keep a copy of Sprite in my ExtROM, but it's not much help if there is no place to put the backup file.
It's also been noticed when I try to play a game that is on the card isn't found.

I don't know if this applies to your situation, but because of the lack of a rubber
closure on the miniSD card slot, it is prone to attracting dust.

I had a similar problem to yours, I cleaned the contacts of the CD card with a Qtip and rubbing alcohol, and (carefully) aimed a shot of compressed (air with a small plastic tube) to blow the dust out of the slot. I believe you can buy small cans for dusting off keyboards, etc.

My card is back to normal. May be coincidence, but it won't hurt.

Be careful with the air, tho.

Would also be helpful to know whether you selected SD or SDHC drivers in the kitchen and whether or not you have another card to try.

I second the advice on cleaning out the SD slot--especially if your PPC has spent any length of time without a card in there--it's basically a big dust trap.

All works great but now sprinttv giving the unauthorized user error. looked through the sprinttv forum and they gave advice but not clear whether the update and cache strategy works with kitchen cause there is not folder for sprinttv under program files. any advice?

My phone volume is constantly resetting itself to the lowest setting, which results in me missing calls. It does not seem to have anything to do with the slide. It resets itself when it is just sitting in the charger. Any ideas?

From the screenshots, there is supposed to be a folder for Hbutton, with more icons inside.

Installing it to my extended ROM has it partially working. Adds the folder and icons. The old icon is still in Programs. Opens the old program 2.0, but it doesn't work. The new one does, but so far, only the first application actually comes up.
If I flash another WM6 ROM, I will leave this one out of the Kitchen unless it gets fixed or updated.
I will also try installing to the main memory rather than Extended ROM.
Edit: Even in main memory, only the first application opens.

Have you tried a soft reset?

If so, then your solution is likely the best until a new OEM is made.

The cache fix will not work with the version in the kitchen, it only works with then newest version.

Scratch that. Even the new version doesn't work anymore. Sprint likes to break it on their end.

Issues with Flashing
 

I have tried several different RUU versions even the no id one and still no luck flashing my apache. I had previously flashed it with wm6 5.2.1620 build 18125.0.4.2. I have bootloader version 2.02. When i sync it thinks this is a ppc-6800. The newest version on Helmis Kitchen will not reconize the device I get error 101. I tried premade roms and i get the same error. I tried disabling USB on activesync and i disabled advanced network functions on the ppc. Still No luck. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

Try flashing just the 6700 radio from the stock ROM. Then try the stock ROM again.

I selected the regular SD drivers. I'm using an old 1Gb that is almost always in there. I do have a generic 2Gb card that I could try, but it's not something that I would keep in for an extended period of time as I mostly use it for music/data. The current card is for backups, some programs and cabs of programs that install but don't want to keep installed in main memory.

I've got another set of bugs that may or may not be related.
1)I'm again getting duplicate reminders of certain appointments. It's not always on all of them and I can't seem to find the pattern.
2)Activesync used to show new emails when they were synced from Outlook. Now, it doesn't. Furthermore, A/s seems to "forget" my settings. I just looked, and all the email folders that I had selected were unchecked. I checked them again and they resynced without issue.

I am running Verizonguy's last WM6 release and am having the same issue which requires a soft boot to correct. Running a 1GB SanDisk.

It didnt install office for me, online onenote, it gives me this error when I open up "PPC-BuildOS"

"Module PPCGeeks_OEM.rar was not found"

and it isnt doing it anymore but it also said like 10 different apps that it couldnt find installers for. also, my list of available app is very short, not even half as long as the screenies in the wm6 kitchen downloads thread. Did I do somethin wrong?

By the way, I built the rom and it works fine so far

Download PPCGeeks_OEM.rar and put it in C:\BuildOS, then rebuild your ROM.

You've got WkTASK running. That line is the divider between the notification icons on the right, and running tasks on the left. You can hold done on the upper right corner to get the options ...

My phone just recently started missing calls. I noticed this when the phone would ring only once then the call would go to voicemail. After some testing I notice that when this happens I can see the phone icon above the signal strength for a good 6 seconds before the phone will ring and let me hit the accept button. But by the time that happens the call has been sent to voicemail.

I am using a rom built from the kitchen and is basically a vanilla build.

Thought I would un-rar the OEM folder and sort by size, then remembered you can't! Found this link for sorting by FOLDER size:

Now going to unRAR and print a list of the folders in PPCGeeks_OEM.rar. Then at least I will have a relative idea of which ones are huge and which are small.

Attached is a pdf of all the OEM Folders sorted by size. Edit: Somebody smarter could make it smaller on 1 or 2 pages.

Please check your running task list - close the running programs and see if your problem is fixed. Generally, this problem is caused by 2 things: radio signal issues (call announce is easier to establish than call data) and programs hogging the cpu/memory. If you have 2 or more bars, radio signal issues shouldn't be a problem. If closing running programs doesn't help, try resetting your phone.

EDIT: Tiermann points out in the next post that ringtones, especially long or stored on the SD card, can also have the above mentioned effect.

If your ringtone is a large file and/or it's on the storage card, you will have a long delay before the first ring. When you get a call, the phone wakes up and has to then initialize the storage card which takes time, and then it has to read the file from the storage card which is slower than main memory.

And also what GGuru said about signal and too many running processes or apps set to run or trigger when the phone is woken up.

This is a known issue, but the fix was hard to find. I found some docs that helped me fix this a while back, and did a write up here:

It's hardware - it might be addressable in software, but it's fundamentally a hardware problem. Refer to this http://pinouts.ru/Devices/mini-USB_pinout.shtml for the pinout description, which explains why the solution you found works. Clearly, some power sources are a little smarter than others.

BTW, I don't recommend the solution you found of shorting out the pins...there should be a pull down resistor in there to protect your device.

It absolutely works, and isn't too difficult. It probably is easy to burn out the charger if you accidentally join the wrong pins together, but I'd be susprised if anyone damaged their device doing this.

That said, I accept no responsibility for any damage encurred as a result.

PS: See post #235 for more learned info about this. Apparently bridging the pins isn't as safe as I'd originally thought, but I can still attest that my device is not damaged in any way I can perceive, and I've been using my modified charger daily since the beginning of June -- 5+ months.

Cool -- thanks for the clarification. I'm pretyt sure it's addressible by software, since the last WM5 OEM update released by Sprint did address the problem, however the version that Verizon had did not. I now know enough that I could possibly have figured out how to apply the core parts of the Sprint ROM, with the Verison OEM pieces, but I must say I'm *much* happier running Helmi_c's WM6 ROM. :)

Now my wife's Motorola cell phone won't accept any charger except for the one that came with it, and says unfriendily instead, "Not Authorized". A bug I can deal with, but deliberatly locking me out of a standard connection just to get me to buy another charger is totally lame. ](*,)

But I digress...

As long as you don't bridge the power pin (1) to anything else, you'll be fine. Bridging the gnd pin to a data pin won't hurt it, but it sure won't work as a data cable anymore. For a power supply, you're not using the data pins anyway.

I wonder how my USB to miniUSB cable is wired.... When I find my meter, I'll test it. If anyone else wants to test, check the resitance between pins 4 and 5 of the miniUSB connector.
