Re: WHY does anyone want WP7?

Was the hardware the issue or the fact that the OS is still in it's version 1.0 release?
Because HTC has always been hit or miss with their hardware. My TPs (all 9 of them had issues) My TP2 has been rock solid. Well... Other than the dreaded SOD... But I got it replaced with a refurb and never had an issue with that again.

if this is for me it was a combo of issues, no smart dialing (not huge) tiles i liked kinda but they update constantly which leads to chitty battery life and no copy/paste was a big issue.screen size was ok but would like bigger.

The battery life is probably related to the small batteries in these phones. I'm not sure why they did it, but the Surround only had a 1250 battery in it. The tiles are mostly updated via push, or a manual checking of the People hub (for facebook updates).

I don't like not having smart dialing either, but going to People and Search can be just as fast as going to Phone, Dialer, then searching.

Screen size varies between phones. I'm happy with the Surround's screen size, but I don't do much web surfing on it. The Evo is too big for me, even my Captivate was borderline, but everyone has their own opinions on screen sizes

It honestly took me about 2 weeks for WP7 to really grow on me, and now I like it and I'm not sure I could go back to Android...I definitely can't go back to WM. The only thing pulling me back to Android are the app choices really, but hopefully it'll grow fast with WP7.

Re: WHY does anyone want WP7?

Yeah... And that's the ONE good reason I'm actually glad Sprint didn't get the phone on release day. The 7Pro will have a 1500 battery and a smaller screen. But I may hold out till a second/third phone hit Sprint. That way I can have a better base.
Thanks for sharing.

Yes I call a bug free OS that doesn't freeze several times on a stock OS progress. I call a phone that is fluid into and out of apps that is hardware accelerated for the cpu/gpu progress. I call writing apps in silverlight progress.
I would not call writing apps in silverlight progress...progress would be choosing an open source programming language...Its actually quite sad..now I got nothing against silverlight as a language..butt M$ has been known for creating programming languages by the dozen, be very poor with bakwards compatibility when language updates...and then eventually dump it in favor of a new one...

You can be mad at MS all you want but the reality is that WinMo was dying long before MS pulled the plug. Devs were leaving in groups before wp7 was announced and their marketshare has never been lower.
Palm had to do it, MS needed to do it too.
The complaint is not in WP7 itself..its how M$ approached it..they could have released WP7 as a new OS..same way palm did..and still developed winmo...they still are anyways inside Embeded..but by doign what they did means it wont end up in a consumer phone..thats what people are mad at.

Why do I want it??? Let's see, what do I use my phone for (in order of how often):
1. Twitter
2. Music
3. RSS
4. Surfing the Net
5. texting
6. Watching videos
7. Games
8. Making calls
9. Facebook

Based on that, WP7 works perfectly for me. I don't need my phone to be a usb drive, got a bunch of those in the drawer. Haven't missed copy/paste yet. Matter of fact, the only program I miss from my HD2 is MoTweets.

Most people aren't looking for a phone sized p.c. They are looking for a phone that has social apps, music, videos, games, web browsing.
Name one of the above that Winmo does better than wp7???
Music, making calls, RSS maybe more :/

Wirelessly posted (Mozilla/4.0 (compatible; MSIE 6.0; Windows CE; IEMobile 8.12; MSIEMobile6.0) Sprint T7380)

wp7 is not meant for tweekers. it is a simplified os for button pushers (the mass market). eventually, it may get opened up for other modifications.

Exactly! Im all for change but not scrapping the whole platform... call it "Windows Consumer Fisher Price Platform 7" (copyright) and sell it as a new OS on a bunch of kin phones... lol

Within 2 days of the release of "Windows Consumer Fisher Price Platform 7" (copyright) some smart SOB would have designed a theme that looks exactly like it on winmo or a way to dual boot and everyone could have been happy.

Open the code up M$ and give us back our platform! All it really needed was new hardware and a little TLC... lol. Oh well... maybe release 2.0 will impress
