Re: Windows Phone 7... Doomed?

when i see a custom rom ill believe it. as far as themeing, microsoft is in talks to see if they will allow it or not. im just saying more people are unhappy with wp7 currently then not. trust me as ive been in several discussions about it over on xda. most of the dealers aren't even heavily trying to push wp7 on customers. |

Re: Windows Phone 7... Doomed?
@noir lol dude you're silly. Anyway as i stated earlier, i don't thing windows phone is doomed but i think that aside from nokia, microsoft is in the most trouble. Now i know i'm going to make alot of people mad. I also can't believe i'm thinking this myself, but i must be honest. I know we still have MWC and CTIA coming up. However it would seem that microsoft's os isn't fairing to well and it won't be changing anytime soon. After looking at ces and all the android phones/tablets and media devices being announced. I'm starting to doubt any of the carriers or hardware makers care too much about wp7. I mean first off, google/rim/apple and HP all have tablets either out or coming this year running their respective os'. That means less attention being paid (by hardware companies) to wp7. I know they have a few tablets with windows 7 but it doesnt have the same flexibility and marketability of a modified mobile os. The big reason would be apps of course. Wp7 honestly isn't even ready for mobile phones (lack of full landscape support,copy/paste) and since they wont let companies use custom ui's i think they lesson the potential of them making a phone or tablet. I know im not the only one that can see this happening. Everyone is supporting android and now with the tablet phenomenon, microsoft is even further behind the 8 ball. Another problem is no one is even trying to push windows phone. Sure, att has a commercial or two and im not even sure tmobile does. Now the dates of updates and cdma releases are getting even more confusing and on top of that verizon is about to get the iphone. Att's bread and butter is leaving (in a way) and what do they do? Announce killer android phones. That means verizon and att will focus on the iphone first and foremost and it looks like android will be second. Especially with verizon and their droid line.

Re: Windows Phone 7... Doomed?
and once again xda strikes
access to registry is GOLDEN! I think development on wp7 is so new but so similar to wm that a lot of strides being made are from previous top developers on windows mobile platform. I am definitely sure this will lead to a lot of fun. Now to find a htc device |
Re: Windows Phone 7... Doomed?
Honestly I dont know not one person that has a windows phone lol. I do find it odd that Microsoft keeps touting their Kinect sales #'s but wont give any on wp7. Theyll only address how many they actually sent to stores.

Re: Windows Phone 7... Doomed?
Personally I think this is a pretty funny comment. You and possibly others here and at XDA care about ROMS. XDA provides a great service and I expect they will have plenty of Mods even for this phone. That said, this is a small audience compared to the smartphone purchasing public and has little to do with the success or failure of the Windows phone 7. The only exception is the people on these forums are the early adopters and do influence the gadget purchase of friends and family.
Your comment almost sounds as if you just care about Mods just because it is cool and not for what they can provide. This phone is so far and above what we had in 6.5 that at the moment I would rather have a great OS with no mods than a bad OS that has great Mods. Quote:

that's why you have to side step some of the craziness, people complained about having to hack and tweak winmo to work...now they say you can't hack wp7 lol. if it was out for cdma, we'd be having a different conversation. |
Re: Windows Phone 7... Doomed?
Haters are going to hate... It doesn't matter the reason.
People just can't see that there's a phone/os combination for everyone... Well... Except for those of us that want a WP7 phone on CDMA... LOL. But you know what I'm sayin... If you don't like it... Stay away from it. I hate iPhone. I have only posted in the iPhone section once or twice... And neiter of my posts were full of hate... Except for that punch to the ribs when the iPhone 4 antenna was having issues. But that was just fun. People want MS to fail and it's just not going to happen. MS is bigger than big and anything they decide to sink theif dollars into will come out a success. They'll get it all right. It's just going to take some time and alot of money. They will be in the top 3 in this market. TOO. p. |
Re: Windows Phone 7... Doomed?
I know what you mean, at least I tried android before I started bashing it lol, hell, I put the 2.1 rom on my wifes moment. some of these guys aren't thinking for themselves, they're letting websites and articles think for them lol. I'm not saying wp7 is the best thing since sliced bread, but I did at least try it.
|
Re:Windows Phone 7... Doomed?
wanna here some scary stuff, i got a ihony 8g sitting right next to me. lol
its old and i got it free but still.... sorry to interrupt the bashing and i totally agree with az and doc that there is a phone for everyone and wp7 defiantly deserves a 30dy testdrive. |
Re: Windows Phone 7... Doomed?
I'm on an EVO now. I figured I'd try it... I never bashed it cuz I didn't know what it could or couldn't do.
I got my wife the EVO Shift and while setting it up... I found that it can do more than I thought it could and picked it up witout any problems. So I got myself the EVO. It's not for everyone... And I'll for sure go to WP7 as soon as Sprint puts out a device I like. But bashing for the sake of bashing is very clearly a sign of ignorance... Bashing after experiencing is obviously a sign that what you tried is not for you. iPhone I just CANNOT do. Not for me. Sorry Darren... No offense... I've played with my brother in law's itouch while setting it up for him as well as my father in law's. Nothing it had to offer pursuated me to own one. But that doesn't mean I bash it or that it doesn't have a place in SOMEONE'S purse. LOL. The only thing I covet is it's battery life. p. |

Re: Windows Phone 7... Doomed?
well LG should just stay out of smartphones anyways, who the hell would buy an LG phone?
it's not the OS it's your weak company. I'm liking WP7 more and more on my HD2, it needs an update bad for some core issues, but it's a really nice OS. |
Re: Windows Phone 7... Doomed?
For a first release OS I have to say that WP7 is one of the best. It's not all there yet and it won't be for a while... But once they get this thing right... The Tweens of today will be selling their Justin Beber CD collections to get their hands on one.
The integration with XBox is HUGE and it's going to play a huge part in that age group's decision when buying a smart phone. Fart apps and lighters are going to be secondary. But almost as important. I hope MS has a fart app already and if not... I hope someone is feaverishly working on gettin one to the marketplace as we speak cuz that too may be a dealbreaker. p. |
Re: Windows Phone 7... Doomed?
it has a fart app lol, what marketplace would be complete without one!
|
Re: Windows Phone 7... Doomed?
See... Already WP7 is better than I gave it credit.
I for one am... Uh.... Relieved. So to speak. |
Re: Windows Phone 7... Doomed?
I counted 8 of them...when skyscape comes on here wp7 will be my premier OS for good

my wish list is a flash browser. |
Re: Windows Phone 7... Doomed?
That would be nice... I can tell you it is nice...
I can't understand why it's so difficult for Microsoft to just flash enable mobile Explorer. p. |
I think it's a little premature to say WP7 is doomed.
Android was not successful overnight and WP7 is no different. Office and Live are strong brands and Zune is well known with a decent reputation. I think that once the devs/companies have had some time, there is potential for the platform. Sent from my SPH-D700 using Tapatalk |

LOL... You think it's premature NOW!!! The OP actually posted this 07/07/10... That was almost preconception. I think the idea was based on the kin and kin2. But this is obviously a much different situation. p. |
Re: Windows Phone 7... Doomed?
It's definitely a different situation.
The Kin thing really was a mess and made no business sense that I can think of. It probably would have done much better on MetroPCS or Virgin Mobile than having been on Verizons network priced at the same price monthly as far superior handsets. Wp7 hasn't even been out 6 months yet. It's still a newborn babe but it really does seem like MS is dedicated to the platform. Along with the strong brands that are native to the phone (Live, ZUNE, and Office)it runs smooth which is a good starting point. A couple of updates and tweaks to the interface and it should be a lot better. I personally wouldn't expect anything great for at least a year though while the growing pains are sorting out. |
Re: Windows Phone 7... Doomed?
For sure... I could have seen the kin and kin2 do well there too... Or even on Cricket... One thing Microsoft has had some trouble with in my opinion... Is identifying their target audience and marketing to it.
They made the kin look like a hipster phone... When it was actually a tween phone. Parents would have gone for it if they had marketed it better. Kids would have wanted it. Now with WP7 they are targeting working moms. When they should be targeting their millions of XBOX users. Although... They probably feel that those fools will automatically want it therefore it makes sense to market to those kids' parents. I don't know... I just cancelled myself out with opposing arguments. But then again I'm no marketing genious. I guess when you have Billions to spare... The sky is the limit. p. |
