Re: Anyone Else feel WM7 will be a flop?

WM7 will include Zune. Which will most likely also include the XNA Framework, and obviously its media playing/syncing capabilities.
So. Winner.

Re: Anyone Else feel WM7 will be a flop?

So far it looks like its built on the same engine as 4,5 and 6. 6.5 is already feeling dated compared to the competition, so this is not promising.

Re: Anyone Else feel WM7 will be a flop?

It would be insane of microsoft to provide anything less than something at least slightly better than android, web os, and the iphone. A lot of people already hate windows mobile devices, to fail the few that genuinely enjoy it now would be suicide for microsoft.

I imagine that if WM7 does fail, that microsoft might pull away from mobile phones, (under the windows name at least) for a little while. Remember when SEGA used to make video game consoles? They failed so many times that they just stopped making them. Then again, microsoft doesn't really give up on its continued failures... So maybe I'm completely wrong and WM7 will suck, WM7.1 will make it useable, WM7.5 will make it slightly more useable, and WM8 will ruin it again.

Re: Anyone Else feel WM7 will be a flop?

What I'm surprised by is the minimum hardware performance required to run Windows Mobile 7. I want them increase in performance similar to how Windows 7 improved from Vista, where as Windows 7 hardware requirement is less. It seem to be opposite in this case.

It will come down to how fast the operating system run. To me Windows Mobile 6 is really sluggish, so I will get a Windows Mobile 7 phone if they can especially improve in that department. I should wait for the user reviews of Mobile 7 and if the experience is still slow and sluggy, then I'll probably embrace Android instead.

Not related, but I would expect something of this size to have 1024x640 screen resolution.

Re: Anyone Else feel WM7 will be a flop?

I'm not as enthusiastic about any porting of Zune software over. Zune is a closed system that doesnt allow for third party app development..... which makes the Zune HD a big fail.

If the port to WM7 is merely the media player, then I'll change me reservations to maybe.

Re: Anyone Else feel WM7 will be a flop?

I don't think it will flop i do believe that a few people have opinions and expectations that are too high. Understand the situation. Microsoft is not in the business of making software ridiculous right out the box, they are there to give developers and designers the ability to make the the product for us. As such, given their past, WM7 will be their top of the line chassis but the expectation of the phone is that the developers will take it and run. This is why windows is what it is. My only expectation is they decrease the clutter involved in creating for the OS. I hate that companies like HTC have to create their own proprietary system to keep u out of windows rather than windows being flexible enough to accept what users/developers want and have that as the standard. There is no need for there to be HTC SMS and then still have the ability to delve into standard windows SMS...thats 2 programs 4 no reason same can be said for settings, calendar, and other basic function, this eats a lot of much desired space. HTC et al, should be able to develop whatever programs they want, and it should be fully intergrated and effectively replacing the basic windows app, not coexisting. If we had that in the beginning we wouldn't need or be waiting for windows 7.
Thats the beauty of the Iphone, it really is whatever u want it to be...but the Iphone is made by apple so it doesn't have to cater to developers..only itself so of course it can make the perfect OS. Windows has a higher expectation, it has to make a simple system that can be taken and modified by Motorola, HTC, Samsung, Acer, Toshiba, and other developers....this is why u guys should lower ur expectation, in order to please everyone u can only provide so much and let them do what they will.

Re: Anyone Else feel WM7 will be a flop?

With the hardware capabilities of the newer phones I really think WM7 is going to be much better than previous versions.
