A few months back, Sprint said they are going with WiMax, but their system could be switched to LTE with very little effort. Looks like they are hedging their bets. If it is that easy, sounds smart to me.

Sprint probably has no choice but to switch to LTE just because the phone manufacturers aren’t going to waste R&D on WiMAX for a little carrier like Sprint when the rest of the world is on LTE. Since the big two (ATT and Verizon) on switching to LTE, you can pretty much guarantee LTE will be the standard for the USA.

Mark my words, once VZW goes fully LTE say around 2011 or 2012, the iphone contract with ATT will have ended and that is when you’ll see the iPhone LTE being sold by all carriers here including T-Mobile and Sprint.

VZW Iphone in January?
Bloomberg has just reported that Verizon will be carrying the iphone beginning in January. Sounds like an old tune being played again but they reported that they had confirmations from two sources.

Engadget is also carrying the story and it can be read there.

They been talking about this for years, its just hype. The only way it can happen is if ATT lets them break the contract and I don't see that happening without VZW giving some serious $$$ to ATT.
