Re: Android = SPAM... New Evo/Android users be warned

I'd rather have free apps with ads than pay for them. The ads are really not all that distracting. As for the keyboard thing...I've never heard that. Weird.

Re: Android = SPAM... New Evo/Android users be warned

MS may not have ads on winmo like iPhone and Android.

But let's see how well MS is doing in the mobile OS platform these days. I wouldn't take MS as the paragon for anything right now. They are trying to turn into some freakish ugly mutant stepchild of Android and iPhone OS.

I agree with you to some extent on the ads, but frankly Android has so much more to offer than WM that it's a minor annoyance at worst, and there are ways to handle/disable it.

Re: Android = SPAM... New Evo/Android users be warned

WinMo has free apps that are ad supported too. For example, go to the Windows Marketplace and install Mo Tweets. There is a paid version and an ad supported free version.

By the way, AdBlock says "AdBlock blocks HTTP requests. It may be used for blocking unwanted ads on webpages.
It will NOT block ads in apps."

So I don't think it will stop the ads in apps...

Re: Android = SPAM... New Evo/Android users be warned

I know a lot of this has been answered already, but i have quite a bit of Android knowledge and would like to clarify:

1) The keyboard thing:

The android sdk and libraries REQUIRE that message to pop-up every single time you install a new keyboard. It is simply a warning that states that you better trust the source of the keyboard, because it could POTENTIALLY be used maliciously to log your information. As far as i know, there has never been such an issue thus far. Again, this is simply a WARNING that the operating system itself REQUIRES be presented to you upon installation of a keyboard.

2) Ads:

Android works a lot like iPhone in the way it handles apps and marketplace stuff. A lot of android apps are made by companies. Companies that like money. I can say with 100% honesty, that i have never found an app that has ads that i would consider to be intrusive. 9 times out of 10, i completely don't notice the ads are there. Its actually a very good system, because the devs make money and, therefore, are motivated to make more apps. If you pay for an app to remove the ads, they make money on that also, and you get more features.

Let me also state that Android is FREE. FREE as in beer. Manufacturers don't pay a single cent to put it onto a phone. A license to use windows mobile is CRAZY EXPENSIVE. I'm alright with the ads, because this free operating system makes it much more accessible to developement. Thats my 2 cents.

ads aren't a problem as long as the apps are free and they don't end up screwing u up with whatever permissions u give. a lot of the good apps offer paid versions that remove the ads anyway. hell, we should all be used to ads by now just from using computers. you know you're going to get the evo when it's all said and done, don't waste your time stressing over ads

1) then whats iPhones excuse for their ads since their OS isnt free?

2) right... a FREE PLATFORM, that people are tryign to get rich from by placing ads/allowing ads in their apps...
just shows that Free, doesnt actually mean free... and Devs dont really care about their craft anymore, they just want money..

its like the famous "Earl Scheib discount paint job"... sure its damn near free.. but then they charge you to tape the doors, tape the windows, tape your door handles, etc... and its 1800 bucks before your done.. just like Android, OS is FREE but if you want things without Ads, itll cost ya a feww 100bucks by time your done..

its fine im still getting the phone... just saying it isnt neccessary.. its all just to generate more money... nothing to do with giving a rats @ss about the end users experience.. not caring about the end user is a big deal, atleast it should be...

and theres little to NO ads on winmo, so please people stp bringing it up

Name one developer who has gotten rich off of an android app. Better yet, find me one single dev that doesn't doesn't work a full time job on the side.

Dude, it takes time and money to develop an app. Being a developer takes time and skill. Android/devs are ALL ABOUT the user experience, and i find it damn near offensive that you are taking such an ignorant, pissy standpoint because of .25 inches of words you didn't expect on your screen. Get the hell over it. If you don't want to pay for apps for no ads, deal with it. The apps, whether ad supported or not, a f***ing awesome and do their job very well. If you like no ads and a shitty user experience, stick with windows. If you want to bitch about stuff, get an iPhone. You don't know shit about android or how the, you know, ECONOMY works. Somebody get a mod to close this thread. The questions have been answered and he wants to keep all his money in his training bra instead of giving it to talented developers.

Yeah, I'm a dev, and developing apps takes a lot of time. Most people don't realize how much time it really takes to do so. I don't know how the Android market works for devs yet, but I don't know if the free apps give any money to devs, regardless of ads. Some of my apps will be free, but I know there are 1 or 2 I will probably charge a little for because they take hundreds of hours to code.

The ads work almost exactly like the google ads on webpages. They are pay per click, and it has an api you can incorporate. Its pretty nice. For your reference, a'm broke as hell, and i'm usually willing to pay between $.99 and $5 for any given app, depending on its function.
