Original Droid replacement, Droid 'Shadow' could be at Verizon by Father's day!

I have always been, since my first purchase of a cell phone, a dedicated and (mostly) happy Windows Mobile user... but long story short, the open platform, turn-by-turn free navigation, amazing hardware, 8mp predicted camera, and Android 2.2 "Froyo" with native Hot-Spot broadcasting all make this projected 'next Droid' phone a HUGE TEMPTATION FOR ME!!

I'd like to hear everyone's thoughts on switching from my TP2 (with MightyROM) to this new Droid2 when it is released as early as Father's Day according to some Verizon store-staff mentioned in the Blog post. I am a huge photographer with a cell phone, I have just always enjoyed it, so a HD video capture and 8mp camera make my heart say YES, ha!

C'MON NEXT DROID!!! (The commercials should have said... "It's not your next phone... that would be the Droid2 "Shadow")

That got leaked yesterday on Howardforums. Supposed to have a 4.1" touchscreen according to the thread instead of the 4.3". Talk is that it will have flash 10.1 on release which means 2.2 but the image is showing 2.1 with Motoblur so no one knows if this will come true or not.

Here are the posted specs though obviously the memory is wrong. It should be 2GB though there is talk that it might actually have more in it. It has the TI OMAP 3630 processor in it.

To summarize what we know so far based on leaks from Winston/Bill and others; what we know about the Shadow is...

1. Tablet form-factor
2. 4.1" TFT FWVGA screen
3. Texas Instruments OMAP 3630 Processor
4. 2MB built in memory
5. Android 2.1, with soon-to-follow upgrade to 2.2
6. Moto BLUR with updates such as BLUR community chat
7. 8 MP camera
8. 720p recording
9. 1080p output via HDMI port
10. ~9mm thick
11. Releasing in July

I think I speak for everyone when I say: AHHHHH YEAHHHHHHH!!!!!

Wireless Syncing and a crazy fast processor to-boot! Thanks so much for that detailed response! COME ON JULY!

PS: I have not heard very encouraging things about Motoblur, and many users/commenter's over on Gizmodo were moaning about it; BUT they also said that screen image could very well not only be non-representative of the actual release product, but the widgets shown on the screen are inaccurate as to what OS it will assuredly be running. I am keeping my fingers crossed.

In case things don't pan out sans the Motoblur in the final phone, what are the opinions of it here, and can it be modified or deactivated/improved?

Hmm. The 2 major connects over on Hofo are now saying delayed until late august because of a hardware change.

Although the delay is a bad thing regarding availability, it will probably prove to be a good thing in the end. Swapping out perhaps a more capable camera sensor, upgrading RAM, or who-knows-what-else will ultimately produce an even better phone! Are there any rumors or word on what the hard ware change might be?

Only one that could make me give up mine is a hardware keyboard... I know they are trying to go away from them but there is just something about sliding that tray and working the qwerty....

Amen! I never thought I'd see the day... but back when the choice was either WinMo or Apple, the choice was clear for me. Now - with the emergence of the Shadow (which I'm still not sure if it is the Droid2 officially or simply another forthcoming high-end Droid) I will be making a switch when it arrives! Wireless syncing is pretty awesome, but the Flash and MASSIVE amounts of speed, not to mention the camera and screen, are mind blowing!

I hate the tablet form... I feel too constricted. I love/must have a slide out hardware keyboard if I am going to be making any purchase. I can't believe the speed of evolution of cell phones! Last year I believe it was, I made a post here on PPC regarding when cell phones will truly become an all-in-one device, with each individual component holding the merit and function of its stand alone counterpart, and it is QUICKLY approaching.

The only feature I don't see on the horizon that I would love is true full 1080 video recording, but the 8mp Shadow camera comes close with 720! Also, I would like to see something (years from now) that is TRULY a "pocket PC" with the equivalent of an i7 processor!
