Correct, you don't need to do anything with the packages.txt file. The kitchen makes that for cooking purposes.

Try looking in to XDA_UC. I have created a EXT and added it to my kitchen...works great.

Check out this post over at XDA Developers.

I have now switched back to this kitchen, and have everything working...but not my few cab files I need to install to complete my configuration.

So, I still have a file called "SDConfig.txt" in the root of the microSD storage card with references to \storage card\cabs\myfile.cab (one for each cab).

What do I need to do so my cabs can be automatically be installed?

There is XDA_UC EXT Package you can add to your Kitchen (serach this thread for it). I don't understand why something likethis is not in the base kitchen.

After you add it, then select it in Kitchen and put all your Cabs and Reg scripts in \Storage Card\XDA_UC I think it may also support SDConfig.txt but I find the folder easier to maintain.

Oh, I forgot, follow the link about the Kitchen in my signature, it also has a link to the XDA_UC package.
