#1, They claim they're bringing more sales to the manufacturers, which may well be true until it starts coming out there is a limit of unlocks for a particular manufacturer's phones, and the limitations sometimes prevent any unlocks at all. That will severely HINDER sales as well as all the 'behind the scenes' development we currently enjoy from all these fine folk here at PPCG and other places like XDA... So if they wanna spend hundreds of hours working on something for more than legitimate donations without the strong-arm tactics, they need to find a different hobby. Doing this stuff for donation is the way it's been for all phones for all time; do some reading.

#2 yes it is unreasonable to put a mechanisim into place to prevent folk from using your work when your work is simply an alteration of someone else's work. What they are doing is no different than cracking a copy of Microsoft Windows and making a thousand copies and taking em out and selling them on a street corner.

#3 the system for all intents works perfectly, it is their strong-arm method that is flawed.

#4, The sense of entitlement is within the creators of this crack. They think they are entitled for compensation beyond that of the goodness of the average person, for doing nothing more than altering the work of HTC...

---4.5 , If they wanna pressure folk into paying, there is nothing wrong with pressuring them for support and action on the issue (action they said was coming on the 17th). They can respond within such a time frame, holiday or not. They choose not to.

#5, you really have no clue what can be done via the internet or telephone with a little social engineering and knowledge of such information do you?

Bottom line is that it is their application and they are not forcing you to use it. If you don't like their means then either a) do something constructive to help fix the problem or b) don't use it.

Clearly you are much better read and versed on such things. Please do explain what the IMEI will allow them to accomplish considering that is the only bit of information that they are collecting that they wouldn't otherwise already have.

Also I noticed that you substituted personal attacks in lieu of answers for about half of my points - amply illustrating the aforementioned ingrateful sense of entitlement. Kudos!

They're not the unlock police, they just don't want their work to be abused by people who charge money and sell unlocked phones to ignorant people for something that is supposed to be for free.

Whether you realize it or not, you did. If Vista or Windows 7, UAC (User Account Control) will toss up a prompt requesting admin access (unless you turned UAC off then it just takes the admin permissions it needs without any sort of indication a.k.a. stupid). If you have XP, then it creates all users as full time admins unless specifically set to be a limited user account at the time of the account creation.

My bad - you're correct. I had to use it on my XP machine because my Vista Activesync was messed up by the QPST/QXDM driver. In that case I don't know why it requires admin access - perhaps something to do with the way that it accesses the activesync API to get direct access to the memory and bootloader of the phone?

pointless argument with someone who makes NO points. I was making points, with examples and all. I never once in the rant you quoted resorted to any personal attacks (like saying someone has an ingrateful sense of entitlement). You don't know me nor do you know my intentions. So to judge anything about me or my thought process shows who is on the the personal attacks.

Nor do I know these people's intention, therefore I raise questions, questions that go totally unanswered. There are excuse makers, but nobody that can give a legitimate answer to any of the questions raised. These people are ruining the community for WinMo users of the best phones around. As stated, when users know they cannot unlock replacement phones or spouses phones, they are going to seek a different phone that the crackers DO what they do for LEGIT donations, without the strongarm tactics.

Cmonex said they would be raising the limit back on the 17th of December (to stay tuned). This would rid them of the folk that can't get it to work once, would allow a few of them to have the ability to do a spouse or replacement phone, as well as make them appear to be a helpful part of a community (no matter their intentions).

The way it is, ignoring the situation, I see their tool getting R.E.'d really soon for a truely free release. There are some folk who won't bother complaining, and with all these phones that just hit users hands within the past month, it likely will not be long.

Re: RhodiumW CDMA Worldphone HardSPL Unlocker Release

Well I am not sure what else to do. I have two Sprint Touch Pro 2's. I unlocked mine back around october. It worked great the first try. I now frequently reflash my phone to different CDMA roms. I bought my wife a TP2 for Christmas. I have not been able to unlock her phone. I even paid for another unlock. I just goes to the screen where the precentage bar and never leaves 0. The "paid" support has been responding, slowly. However they are now blaming my computer. This does not make sense how it could be my computer since my phone will flash roms no problem on it. Even then I tried it on two other computer that have never been used to flash or unlock phones. Vista 32/ Win 7 32 / Win 7 64 No antivirus... Does anyone have any ideas? "No sd card inserted in the phone either.."

I just unlocked my phone using this (it is still booting up). The only time I was prompted for a donation was AFTER everything was done.

So my understanding is (as it was before) that you do not need to donate. At least for the first free unlocking.

Maybe I misunderstood or something. I guess I will find out when I go to flash a ROM, lol.
