Re: [11-16-09] [ROM] MR.X WM6.5 V1.5 [Build 21854] [SDConfig]

Just wanted to let anyone with a magnetic case know that this rom is NOT affected by the magnets waking up the device if the screen faces out towards the magnets in the case. This was a big problem with the stock Sprint rom as the phone would constantly "wake up" and change from portrait to landscape whenever you took the phone out from the case. Try it out and see for yourselves!

SEEMS LIKE ANOTHER PROBLEM SOLVED BY JUGGS!

Re: [11-16-09] [ROM] MR.X WM6.5 V1.5 [Build 21854] [SDConfig]

Hey Juggs quick question, what's the difference between your 21854 ROM and a 21869 Rom? Also which one is newer?

I've always been wondering if there was a site somewhere that list all of the difference between build numbers.

See, ive noticed that it dont work for me on wifi, only EVDO, and my friend says it only works for him on wifi and not EVDO. something funny may be going on... or it could be a matter of the carrier blocking streaming media or the ISP. i know telus blocks streaming media. so if im on EVDO and im not on our roaming partners server (Bell Mobility) then streaming media does not work for me.

That's illegal in the USA. Comcast got in trouble for doing something similar. Apple tried to block certain apps form the iPhone and the FCC ordered them to explain themselves.

So if it's anyone in the USA, streaming media might be something the carrier doesn't like. But it's against the law for the carrier to block it at an ISP level. All they can do is ask you not to do it.

they are not blocking an app, they are blocking a protocol over there networks and thats perfectly legal dude. you can use the app all you want till ur blue in the face, they just filter protocols. Just like VZW is filtering all there droid customers Push email protocols and making you pay 10 bux a month if you wish to use push and have that unfiltered. Thats exactly how telus gets away with it. they want you to buy there packages that are designed around streaming media if you wish to use that protocol.

ISP's do this all the time as well, especially for voip on Business lines if they are not paying for a voip service. Also if you read the ToS of most isp's they state they have the right to filter and or throttle certain protocols for "network stability" reasons. A nother perfect example is Cable companies and how they throttle bit-torrent users. They have a pretty word for this too, its called "ISP Traffic Shaping"

one thing to try tho is setting the connection type in the options of streaming media.

Actually, filtering the protocol is what is illegal. Net neutrality. That is the actual word (phrase) that applies here. Comcast got blasted for it by the FCC in the USA. They were blocking and slowing down bit torrent traffic and the FCC forced them to stop. It may be legal in Canada, I don't know, but it is illegal here in the states. That's why AT&T and Apple blocked the Sling Player app, instead of just blocking the protocol (and the FCC then asked them about that anyway). AT&T has it in their terms and conditions that streaming tv is against the rules. They do not block the protocol though. AT&T (and all the carriers here in the states) have been fighting Net Neutrality for a while now. See here for some info on this:
http://www.phonenews.com/did-the-fcc...rictions-3971/
"The FCC last week ruled that Comcast was in violation of its licenses by interfering with BitTorrent traffic. While the FCC’s ruling was nebulous at best, it was the first major win for the Net Neutrality supporters. Essentially, the FCC is taking the position that, so long as network activity is not abusive, that a carrier cannot interfere with such traffic."

There is a ton of info on this here:

Also, see the link in my sig as that is what it is all about...

yes but understand when u sign up for your service your agreeing to allow them to enforce network traffic shaping in order to "enable equal access to all" thats exactly how they get around this. they shape a protocol to the point thats its unusable if the see fit. my ISP does this to my bittorent protocol. i have to encrypt my packets to get them stop it. Some ISP's will send simple reset packets to your client if they want you to no use that protocol on then network as well. this is another way ISP's employ to prevent P2P.

Again, that is illegal in the USA. That is exactly what the FCC smacked down Comcast for. They were slowing down bit torrent traffic, and the FCC made them stop.

Not only was it against Comcasts terms of service to use file sharing over bit torrent, but in a lot of cases (piracy, illegal porn, etc) it was also against the law. And the FCC still made Comcast stop that practice.

I understand what you are saying. I actually work or a lartge ISP and completely understand what you are talking about. I'm just telling you that ISP's are not allowed to do that in the USA. They may be in Canada, I don't know anything about the laws in Canada (or any other country). But here in the states what you are talking about is not legal. And the specific example you give (cable companies slowing down bit torrent traffic) has already been addressed by the FCC here in the states and the largest cable company in the nation was forced to stop the practice.

The FCC is further investigating net nuetrality right now and the rules could change in the future. There is also a net nuetrality bill before congress at the moment. The cable companies and telcos all have a bunch of lobbyists trying to push their agenda. But as of right now, under the temporary rules that we are operating under (as ruled by the FCC) it is not legal for an ISP to block (or slow) protocols.

Now, there are exceptions- such as an ISP can require you to use their SMTP server. But they can't block the SMTP protocol altogether and prevent you from using it (without giving you access to their own SMTP server).
