Hello, Thought I'd give your ROM a try, Was on the Mighty, then the Energy for years. Phone crashed and I thought I'd try yours. I like it a lot so far. Some issues, that I need to reseach and I have not yet. Things like I need to get rid of the shark backgrounds on the mail, and I need to determine how best to manage my tasks. I had everything just so previously and I need to break the mold and try to adjust to something new. I normally used compact startmenu, PocketShield and password locking, I need to make sure they will work.

What's up! Thanks for giving me a try! :)

I'm not sure on the start menu as I didn't really do any modding in that area. I did try the one that has a "Q" as it's little button in the corner and that one worked on my ROM.

I never used Pocket shield, maybe someone else can speak to that.

Password locking works fine, I used it all the time.

Oh, and if you didn't read through the 1st post totally, you should. ;)

Hey kyderr! Give this Rom a try for a week and you will be hooked. It runs very nice, and has lots of great utilities. It has all the tools to customize it to just your liking! Have fun!

The easiest task manager by far is QuickMenu V1.3 its in this thread Ive linked it several times.

I use to even remove the start menu and just install quickmenu Its freed up about 25-30mb of ram. and its much easier to navigate. That was the one that the Q on the corner if you dont like the Q you can remove it and still tap the corner and it will still launch.

Anyways. I miss my TP2 :( all thanks to you sharkie!

Sharkie did you get the EVO3d or Evo?

Are you staying with that phone or you moving on to a newer phone anytime soon?

I like the ROM so far. Getting some lockups right after wakeup, but I need to make sure none of the stuff I am putting on is messing with it. I liked quickmenu, but it's hard to use with fat fingers. I have read the first two posts through. Now I need to start my searches on the thread for some answers. I have noticed one wonky behavior.

When in the e-mail tab. When I tap inbox. it's a bit of delay before it loads, it also flashes back to another e-mail account a couple of times before it does. I'm going to do some experimenting today, and do some thread searching for some answers...
I love much about the ROM so far though.

I got an Evo 4G and I don't plan on upgrading anytime soon. I still love it and now that I'm getting somewhere in my ROM building endeavors, I'm having even more fun. There are lots of ports of the newer phones ROMs, so I've been keeping my phone up to date with newest Sense and GB versions.

Sharkie,

Thanks for all your efforts on this ROM, it's allowed me to extend the life of my TP2 (and my g'friends) a bit longer. For months I was drooling over the EVO 3D, but Sprint's policy changes regarding data plans for newer phones... meh.

Anyway there're 2 very small issues with this ROM I was hopeing you might have an idea 'bout. The first, I've been through all the settings I can find, I'm unable to deselect the vibrate that occurs when I click links in IE or Opera. Tends to happen when the new page loads. Know if I can turn that off?

The 2nd is the speakerphone. Even with the option enabled, it never engages anymore when the phone's faced down. Have any ideas?

Thanks again,
Turnkeys

I'll have to load up the phone later today and have a look around about both of those two things. I'll get back to you on those... Good to see you still around and yeah, Sprint being aholes about these newer phones. Even still, I think they remain cheaper than VZW or ATT.

Getting a few problems at this point. Mail is slow. Switching between accounts is very very slow. After I read a message, and close it, it takes me all the way back to sense, it does not stay in the mail app. (after a 10 second delay) I keep getting Opera out of memory errors with one tab open. (I started opera with 40mb, it ran down to 2mb)
I might need to flash with a new page pool..

I don't remember too many people mentioning problems with Mail being slow. A few mentioned opening of mail and WM messaging from Sense being slower than on some other ROMs, but not an overall mail is too slow issue. How much mail do you have on your phone more or less? That I can remember only 1 other person has mentioned anything about closing out a message and it closing out messaging completely, but neither I nor most others had this issue. I can't remember what he/she said the solution was, if he/she found one. I tried searching the thread for it, but I came up empty.

As far as Opera, here's a post with a couple of fixes for the out of memory issue: http://forum.ppcgeeks.com/2109587-post3411.html

I believe I uploaded a ROM with these edits and people said they didn't like them in there for one reason or another. Personally, they fixed Opera on my phone and I can't recall getting another out of memory after that. I did use UC Web most of the time though...

The pagepool is set to 12 by default.

I had the same issues when reading emails. I ended up uninstalling utask then it would stop exiting out of mail when I closed a message. It may have been some unique configuration issue for me but I could never get utask to work correctly with email messages closing properly.

I also ended up uninstalled CHT. My email client would become very bogged down probably due to way too many emails in my inbox. Removing CHT helped speed it up.

Good luck.

Re: ★SharkieROM & Kitchen★Final Update★Version 5.1★Generic\Sprint★29020\21916★Sense20

I figured it out. I almost gave up and went back to another ROM, but I got it... uTask is set to CLOSE on single tap. This is not the default behavior in other roms and it causes problems with the Mail app. I changed it to minimize on tap and close on hold. I removed the start menu and went with quickmenu. I stopped MS voice command from starting. Seems to be working better. Try a couple of resets and a few hours to see.

Now I get a message at boot that says that SKIP cannot be found.... Everything seems to work. I will check on the Opera issue you linked for me Sharkie. Thanks.

Re: ★SharkieROM & Kitchen★Final Update★Version 5.1★Generic\Sprint★29020\21916★Sense20

Nor do I. But it is there, under Sense. There does not seem to be a way in this ROM to change the Windows Mobile Wallpaper. It's there all the time, under sense, I see it once in a while, and I'd like to change that. I am still trying to figure it out. I've got things running pretty well. Pleased overall. Seems pretty quick, but I still run into memory problems. I started using the UC browser, That's nice, but I love my favorites, as I have them synching to my desktop, and that does not work so well with UC. Also Zoom is a real pain with it too.

I checked the settings for uTask on the Energy ROM, (Since I have a "test" phone) I never had problems with closing mail on it. The close button is set to "Close" But when I use that same setting for SharkieROM, it closes the entire mail app. Something is different, and it's not UTask.

Not saying that other ROMs are bad, but SharkieROM is the one I like best on balance. It is stable and battery friendly. With Energy rom, my Touch Pro 2 does not last more than 8 hours. But SharkieROM goes 50% longer. In addition, the wi-fi tethering does not get dropped because the phone goes into sleep.
Thanks Sharkie.

Some file got left behind when you installed a program probably. Go to Windows\startup, and delete the file that causes the error.

Man, I wrote the best post ever, and lost it. Basically, I said that you can make EnergyROM work with Teathering in standby. And I mentioned that I liked the ROM again. Then I said that I needed DRM, and that it didn't work, and Then I checked and Sharkie Mentioned he'd check into it in November. I think that was it. Oh, and I figured out the skip thing. I've got a folder called that in startup. I've had it there forever. I think because I used to Run Cookie 1.8.5 on Energy, that since I never saw the windows default background I never noticed the message was there. I can fix that on my own.

Re: ★SharkieROM & Kitchen★Final Update★Version 5.1★Generic\Sprint★29020\21916★Sense20

about utask and email... you can add tmail.exe to the utask exceptions list and this will cause the X button to only minimize in that app. The downside is that you will have to go into task manager or something to actually close the email app, but that might be the lesser of two evils for you. I'll look into it more and see if I can figure that one out. I wonder how nrg managed to set that up...

as far as opera, you tried the settings I recomended and are still getting the out of memory issues, I'm assuming. If so, you can uninstall Opera and install your own Opera cab. This ROM itself does not have memory issues, I'm not sure why Opera is for you...

I left opera for the moment. This UC Browser is really interesting, Very fast. Never used it before. I'm playing with that a bit. I use a shortcut to go to the HTC favorites app, but then have my default browser as UC. This way I can still organize favorites using I.E. & Slimbrowser on the desktop.

The best I can tell is tmail ran all the time on NRG. I did get a hangup today in facebook application. Hung so bad, I had to use the reset button.

If you ever want to cook another ROM. Perhaps you could update Motweets & UC to the latest version. I'd recommend XDA Shutdown instead of PSShutXP. Cook back in the sounds, at least HTCs.

I am still having problems with text messages being marked read when coming out of a thread. Not sure what's happening here. It's consistent....

I prefer opera mini over UCWeb, it may be a tad bit slower, but it provides the entire webpage and not just the mobile version. 6.5.X is amazing!!! So easily operated and haven't seen any bugs yet!

Sorry to hear that. I know that most users do not experience this nor did I when I was regularly using my TP2. If and when you have the time, list all apps, mods, and tweaks you install on the ROM. How many email accts do you have set up with how much mail. Did you change the page pool, if so to what size. Are you overclocking and if so, to what speed. Have you reformatted your SD card lately.

Maybe you're right, and this ROM on your phone is just not meant to be. Dunno what else to tell you, sorry :(

I used Opera Mini exclusively for quite some time, but it started bogging down for me. Sometimes a page or pages will refuse to load. I tried running it on several different devices and different Rom's with the same result. I came to the conclusion that we were not meant to be together. I do still use it at times, but seem to have similar results. Has your experience been different there?

kyderr 09-17-2011 10:22 AM

Re: ★SharkieROM & Kitchen★Final Update★Version 5.1★Generic\Sprint★29020\21916★Sense20

I flashed a couple of times, Task'd 29 between. Tried it vanilla without any cabs or mods, still had some of the problems. I did not change the PP. It's a bummer, but something in the ROM was really messing with the phone. It would not even dial. I couldn't get CPROG up and I couldn't use it as a phone. even after 10 restarts. I had to flash again. I'm back on the NRG. I will know shortly if the phone is just dying or if it's a ROM issue. I do not overclock. Tried it many times, and the phone crashes eventually on me. Last time it did, it scrambled the password settings so bad, that the phone was locked out for 23767 days. I had no desire to wait that long. So I removed overclocking. I also deleted it from my computer and I set fire to a CD with it on it. I'm paranoid now about it.

I noticed a few things I liked on the ROM.
Mail is set to Storage card by default. Where is that Regkey?
I can see the signatures on the emails are different from different ROMs, but countless searches have not revealed where those signatures live. Does anyone have a good way to backup signatures on e-mail?

I like the UC browser, I am going to install it manually.

The ROM was really fast on somethings and not so fast on others. It was strange. Opening the windows folder in file explorer was super fast. Opening mail was super slow..

I might come back, but right now I am working in an Emergency Operations Center for some floods and I need my phone to behave.

Thanks All.

It was not loading because of a connection issue. I like the GUI of Opera better than the UC Web browser and it's very simple. Since opera mini does not have flash or anything don't expect it to have animations and such.

Also I have had no problems but 1, when I try to type 2 sentences basically I type the first sentence and put a period and then start the second sentence and if I press space bar after the first word of the second sentence it deletes that word and starts over all the time. So I can't write more than 1 sentence without problems. That's on the 6.5 rom, my bro has a 6.5.x rom on his and he can type many sentences on his TP2 without problems.

Aww... sounds like you have a hardware issue going on there. You could flash a shipped sprint rom to confirm, but I think you are going to have to get that device fixed, or look for a replacement. I am sure that is not what you wanted to hear. Let us know what you find out there.

Yep, it's not a ROM issue. Like Tinkerbell said it's got to be a hardware issue. I'd flash to stock, again like Tinkerbell said, just to make sure. Besides, if you're going to take it in, you'll need to flash it back to stock anyway.

Make sure there is not a clear screen protector stuck on the display too. I remember a "few" posts back about that causing issues with another person's phone. As soon as they peeled it off everything worked fine.

Also, have you tried doing a task29 and then re-installing Sharkie's ROM?

Hey sharkie405, I was wondering if you can make a feature that forces an update ofthe weather on the homescreen when you tap on the sun/moon/clouds.(right below the clock).
Think this is possible? =]
I know you don't really want to run into a bunch more problems, but it would be a nifty neat feature.

The reason is because I have it set to update every hour (to prevent too much data usage), and sometimes its dark but the phone still shows sunny, or its already 70^ outside, but phone still shows like 64^ from the last hour since the morning. So tapping the sun/moon to update will be a handy feature. Thanks.

I use this ROM and its great. Its the only one I found that comes complete for me. So I really don't know if this is a ROM issue or a phone hardware issue, or maybe I have something set up wrong, but once in a while it suddenly starts to call someone. Its not neccessarily the last call I made. Just wanted to know if there is anyone else that experienced this problem before. Thanks

That's not an issue that I've been made aware of. However, a few people have mentioned that the phone wakes up when in a case. I believe it has to do with the magnets in the case causing the phone to think that the keyboard is being opened. I've included all regedits that I'm aware of in order to keep the phone from waking up and unlocking when the keyboard is pulled out, but it seems the problem persists. Do you think this is your issue?

Hey I used to have that. Do you have an automatic lock screen that turns on on wake up? If not I suggest you get one.

I suggest S2U2 over the built in one. It's so much smoother and loads very smooth.
