my keyboard config is uploaded incase anyone wants to take a peek

@sharkie, this is the 1st i used the config to change actual kb keys and not just the hard keys. the reason behind "fn+del=back key" is...the only way i can access txt messages (other than staart menu) is flip out kb for cht landscape and there is the sms widget on home (tabs disabled) so that way when i reply to txt my kb is already open and ready to type. this forces me to use keyboard for txt instead of onscreen kb (like i have always used) its faster to reply this way and i now actually "use" the keyboard.

the reason for "fn+space=soft reset" was in case anything happened and i needed a fast but sure way to reset (if screen froze and couldnt access psshut) this way i just flip kb out and hit the 2 keys for a sr.

mute button seemed like best candidate for camera;
as phone to comm manager;
start seemed best for home;
back key for rotate (the arrow representing "flip screen left";
power for lock device
and endkey to task manager.

so there is a reason for what every key does and it just makes sense for me and what i use...it may open others to more options. i personally dont like/need all the click, double, triple and long so i stick w/ the basics of single click and long press.

i just started getting memory out in opera but i dont care cause the only reason i havent gotten rid of it yet is for the last 4 bookmarks are empty and not sure what i want there yet.

for those that like the cht manila locker but whenever you used it it would be buggy (for me sometimes it wouldnt bring up the lockscreen from suspend causeing all hard keys useless unless you went to lock then unlock) i have it set now and havent noticed any failures. here is what i did...in cht editor i have lock on and everything else is off (suspend, plug/unplug, etc.) then my power button 1 click is set to lock device and my power off settings are off but backlight is on. so this way im forced to click power which will lock device then another click suspends device. so when i un-suspend lock comes up and good to go. you can mess w/ the power/backlight options but i think if you have power off set to on then you might get the cht manila lock bugs as above. i never used the backlight option before but now since power off is set to off, if i forget to click power/lock then the backlight will save on battery. i noticed if i do forget it does drain battery alittle but agian forces me to remember to power/lock it then suspend.

@sharkie i updated my motweets (uninstalled old) now i dont have your icon even thou its in same location? also whenever i open motweets it will deny my account and then i have to select my account agian until eventually it accepts? is this something others see, any suggestions. i used sk tools to uninstall but didnt deleted any of the "suggested" registry entries such as icon "direct" or lnks an such.

i had to drop my oc from 748 to 729 because of weird issues randomly happening... like a screen freeze.

im not sure about the rss tab but i never can seem to get it to show my engadget feeds...gives error, so i always access via rss widget.

but everything is still running smooth and i dont plan on a hard reset anytime soon, thanks agian boss.

I have the shortcut in my moTweets cab as moTweets.lnk. You may have to rename that shortcut manually. I think I changed it from whatever the default was.

I have a silly question, a repeat of a previous question, and then an inquiry.

First the silly ? has to do with Keyboard config. After reading your posts I tried to change some keys. On my tilt I had a number of keys changed, but only 1 purpose/key. When I tried to had a 2nd function to a key..for example I wanted start menu key on long press to activate resco file explorer. Which it did, but quick click wouldn't do anything. I selected multiple actions but only one function works for me, what am I doing wrong?

Repeat question has to do with IM/email services with no data/wifi connection on tmobile network. On the non smartphones you can connect to say windows live and receive/send emails and it counts as a text message. However the tp2 and other phones I've tested(vibrant, 3gslide) only want to work over wifi(I have a prepaid plan, data is not an option with my plan). Any suggestions?

The inquiry has to do with overclocking on Sharkie's rom. I want to give overclocking a shot, and I was wondering if others have stable settings set up to give me a good starting point?

I've only had your rom about a week Sharkie, but I really enjoy it. I had always stayed with mostly 2.1 on my gsm tp2 before for the little extra speed and stability(I can't find any on cdma) but I really like your 2.5.

And I like your patients and way you try to responde to questions and problems as well. A lot of cooks get testy with noobs questions like mine, which is understandable.

As far as keyboard config., you have to to set both actions. You have to reset the "Default key action" otherwise you will only get one. So:
-set multiple actions (which you did)
-set the "long pressing" of that key to file explorer (which you did)
-set "click" or whatever to "Default key action". That should set clicking it to open up the start menu, like it's "default" action.

I'm a bit confused on your second question. You have no data right? But you can't use wifi either? Wifi doesn't use data at all. I only have my TP2 connected to my wifi network since my plan is on my EVO now, but I can still receive email via Windows Live through wifi. Sorry for not understanding your question exactly.

As far as OC'ing, most people have said that this ROM runs stable at 768 or 769, I believe. I've never OC'ed so I can't personally speak to it, but I've seen that number mentioned several times in the thread.

I'm glad you're enjoying the ROM. Don't hesitate to ask any and all questions you may have.

I don't understand people getting testy with noob questions. These days since I'm into trying to learn android heavily now, I find myself a noob once again. Having to deal with a'holes who are too "busy" to answer questions pisses me off and only reaffirms my stance on trying to make a difference in this area, at least when it comes to my work. :)

As ive told you befor, when I first started messin around with my tp2, you were the first to actually respond to any question I had.

Even over on xda, I posted a wp7 skin that someone requested for me to make and he was full of noob questions and comments.

I did my best to answer him and teach him what was what, but a few days ago someone pulled a hudge noob move and installed my htc keyboard skin on an asus m10

so he asked why it wasnt working and the guy who asked me to make the skins went off off and called him stupid for trying to use it on the wrong phone.

Theres no need for that.

Like you told me once, "Everyone is a noob at somepoint, and all the big dogs nowdays seem to forget what it was like to have to ask questions"

I updated to this rom and wow it's fast and I love it... BUT I can't receive any phone calls?! Anyone know why? I can make calls though but when my friends call me nothing shows up. Any suggestions? I did the Task29, installed opera mini and wimo for oc... Thnx!

No, no one reported that issue ever. I would reflash and test this area out before you install anything. Sorry, I don't have more info for you, but like I said I've never heard of this before.

Sorry for the confusing. I do have wifi yes, but I don't have an option for a data plan for my prepaid plan. What I need is an app, or a way to connect to windows live without wifi or data. On the tmobile network they have built in apps on their non smartphones which connects using sms services. I know the email is java. I imagine MSN is as well. On my other phone I was able to be logged into MSN throughout the day and chat with ones as they enter. However on the TP2 and the android phones I've tried, they only want to log into IM clients using data.

T-mobile won't help me out, they say the service works fine on all HTC phones, which it doesn't.

Thanks for instructions and responses for other 2 questions. I will try that later on when I wake up more.

It all depends on the phone. Mine can only go to 710 safely. Anything above that and I get screen freezes and random reboots. Install the cab to your sd so if you get these issues you can remove the card and boot normally.

BTW, Sharkie, no matter how many ROMs I try, I keep coming back to this one. The most stable out there and most of my apps are already there. Just want to know if you plan on doing a no CHT version. Love 16 quick links but hate the lag. Every time I try to remove it I get an error and basically have to reflash.

Did you know that CHT and CHT Editor are installed as a cabs, so you can remove them. :)

I kept it being installed as a cab because, in my opinion and experience, CHT seems to function better this way as opposed to being 'package cooked' into the ROM.

BTW, my 'no CHT' Sense still has 16 quicklinks on the home page! :)

For some reason tv out isnt working. I cant remember if i even tested when 5.1 first came out. But at the same time its opposite from previous tv out issue

On both tvs it worked before but i plug in cable and tv out pops up on phone, as should but just doesnt connect to the tvs? Can anyone check this

Thanks to Sharkie and ones who answered about keyboard config. I now have the start key for longpress explorer, thanks. One more question about keyboard config is this: I write a lot in spanish, I thought I'd make some long press keys for á é ú ó ñ, etc but I can't find a way to do it, if you have advice for me there.

Thanks for overclocking as well. I just have it at 710(a couple of programs malfuncioned when I set it higher) right now, but the difference is noticeble for sure. It's coming together as a better phone each day.

If only I could get the tmobile sms IM/Email service to work so I don't have to buy some sort of data. I think the most data I could afford is the 30mb/month, and I just don't think that'd be enough to stay logged into Windows live for hours each day.

I've see a few forums talking about being able to chat via SMS by sending it to a specific number (like Facebook) but I haven't been able to find anything more than a mention of it, no details. If you have time you dig deeper into that method too.

*EDIT: Sorry Buff, didn't realize that app is $15 and it only threads your text convos, nothing to do with IM. Hopefully you're able to find an answer. I'll keep an eye out and let you know if I find anything.

thanks MW, Ya I've been trying to find anything on how to duplicate the non data versin of IM/Email services that tmobile has on it's non smartphones. I have found, and verified sending an email without data using the number method that you mentioned. Not much success with IM, however.

Hey sharkie, thanks so much for your development for this device. I really loved it when upgrading to your ROM.

I had upgraded my phone over the weekend (sprint photon 4g) - we finally figured out why I am not getting network call waiting tones while speaking on the phone. There's a known issue with this HTC Tp2 (and a few other models from sprint) that prevent call waiting tones to be transmitted over network when connected to their network booster - 2nd generation airvana device. If I am on the 1st generation device (without 3g data support) - call waiting worked. (We tested it as I have both generations sitting here).

That loss of function on 2nd generation really prevents me from keeping my productivity while on the airvana network. However, when I leave the network - we tested the phone TP2 - and call waiting tones worked - so it was never your ROM or anyone else's ... I only recently learned that call waiting tones are transmitted from a carrier network to the device.

So I still love this TP2 and wanted to know how can I make use of this fine hardware and your ROM that doesn't have a voice or data plan.

a) I can still tether it to a public wifi, and then enable a VPN connection through some of my wifi devices and paid VPN service..

b) I have a home network wifi, but what can I do with the TP2 while at home if I can already connect other devices to my wifi? Perhaps use it to remote desktop or use it as a side browser..... I don't know.

c) There's bluetooth obviously too - so no ideas on what or how to make use of that.

Any ideas specific with sharkieROM and this phone would be cool - I don't want to sell it and at the same time, I don't want it to collect "dust"

vancomycin, you could use it as an mp3/video player by storing files on the SD card. It'll definitely do remote desktop/side browser too like you said when connected to your home network. When you are at a location with wifi and have a device, like a netbook or notebook, that doesn't have a wireless network adapter, it could function as that.

A few minor things you could use it for are games, a calculator, and a to-do list. Pretty much any of the functions that don't need a data or voice plan. You can always download any new cabs on your home computer and transfer them to the SD card via USB.

OK, I found the app I've been looking for to send emails, and IM's as Sms...Sorta.

I can't seem to find a newer version that that includes MSN, and supports Email. I've found a few links but all come up, Error. The version that was on my zn5 was: 2.8.3. I saw an app version 5.x that was taken from the HD2..but that one uses data to connect.

As far as I know this ROM only works with CDMA phones. Have you used other CDMA ROMs on your GSM phone?

EnergyRom's work on my phone. When i change mode of operation from global to gsm/umts only i don't have coverage of my gsm network.. I can only call with your rom.

Do you know the rom that will work with GSM networks on my rhod400?

There is a GSM forumhere and at xda. You should check both of those out. I know that nrg also makes gsm specific ROMs.

I am using a GSM network, Tmobile. And this rom(sharkie's) works find sending messages, and calling. I don't have a data plan, one thing is that when I did try a day pass of data, I had to load the Tmobile provision. I am using the generic 6.5 rom. Not x.

I would try loading the Tmobile provision, or the generic maybe? and see if that helps you to use the data services.

That is the one from the HD2..It send the instant messages as sms(from what I've read), but it connects via data(which I confirmed)... Which in the future if I go to a limited data plan I will try it out, thank you much for posting it.

Your ROM is close enough to perfect for me and thanks for that. But ....I do have a problem that occured yesterday that I'm sure some how I did something that shouldn't of been done. Sense isn't launching. Everything else is fine. I just had to disable sense until I do a hard-reset or figure out whats happening. Any clues. thanks

Hey guys so i have been using the 6.5.3 version of this rom for months and i wanted to try out the FPSCE with is the playstation EMU for our phones. I cannot get it to load on this rom. I figured maybe it was because it was the 6.5.3 cversion so i switched to the 6.5 version of it aND I GET THE same problem. SOoooo i was wondering if there was anyone who used FPDCE with this rom if they could post the INI file they are using and or maybe the steps that they have taken to get it work. Thx so much guys!

@sharkiefans - having some issues or uncertainty in connecting or using sharkierom v5.1 to be a wifi router/accesspoint -

I no longer have active sprint data/voice service on the TP2 with sharkie rom installed. I have transferred my sprint services to the photon motorola. I still wanted to use the TP2 as a wifi access point or router for other devices that could connect to that. I have had no luck trying to figure out how to get this to work.

Scenario 1 :

a) connect TP2 (with no sprint voice/data service) to my home wifi and connect a wired usb cable to my tablet pc for tethering and allowing wifi for my tablet via the TP2 which is connected via its wifi to my home router.

b) scenario 2) connect TP2 to public wifi and tether via usb cable or device wifi to TP2 and work that way.

Mind that this TP2 has had its sprint services transferred to another phone so trying phone as modem / or sprint network under "ICS" included in sharkie rom has not helped.

@ vancomycin, I tried to get this to work but I couldn't figure it out either... Sorry. Hopefully someone else can chime in with some insight.

@ Everyone else, so the day as come when I've decided to officially discontinue work on this ROM. Life has been a bit rough of late. I've not had any time to work on issues that you guys have mentioned or any WM stuff at all really. What little time I do have I would like to dedicate to Android and my EVO.

That being said, I'm going to upload my kitchen for those of you who would like to keep updating this ROM yourselves or those of you who've always thought about tinkering and just never got around to it. For the most part the kitchen will be set up as v5.1 was. There will be an "Unused" folder in the kitchen that will have some other stuff that I've used in the past or thought about using, but never actually did. I realize it's a bit late for anyone to start really digging hardcore into WM, but if you like my ROM and have always wished that you could get rid of this or add that, then this will be your chance. Besides, it's a fun hobby!

I'm going to start a new kitchen thread today or tomorrow just so that any kitchen/cooking questions can be asked in a separate space and not clutter up this thread. I will be keeping up with that thread and always be available to teach and answer questions about how to use the kitchen and what not.

For those of you who've never tried your hand at cooking ROMs with an EVK kitchen, it's waaaaayyy easier than you think, especially if your goal is only to add/remove some programs.

I'll hit this thread up and let you know when the kitchen thread is up and posted.

Sad day, but eventually it would come. Great work @Sharkie405! My favorite "all around" (I've flashed them all and made my own) ROM hands down. Godspeed with your EVO ventures. I now have my wife's old EVO as a WIFI/media device now currently running a Sense 3.0 custom ROM and will def "eat" what your "cooking"!

Ok, so the kitchen is posted in the 1st post of this thread just after the ROM downloads.

I decided there probably wasn't going to be enough interest to warrant starting a new thread over it. Due to this same reason, I'm not going to start a how to tutorial on it either. As questions come in on things I'll answer them and if I feel that a tutorial on certain things seems like it's needed then I'll write them. Just a couple of need to knows for you to get started:

1) The kitchen will trigger your AV (Anti-Virus) and your AV will probably delete (quarantine) necessary parts. If that happens, you will have to re-unzip the kitchen and start over. So make sure you exclude it's location from your AV. Don't worry, there are no viruses in the kitchen.

2) You need to have full administrative capabilities on your PC. To do this in Windows7 and Vista, I think, you need to change you "User Account Control Settings" to NEVER NOTIFY.

At least up through post #10 as that post has good first time use "how tos".

This kitchen also contains a ready to go WM Build 29022.


My kitchen started out from that kitchen. It's an Ervius Visual Kitchen. There is a newer version of this kitchen somewhere on XDA, but I'd already got this one set up the way I like it and didn't really see any advantage in starting over so late in the game.
