Re: *ROM* *12/29* *SsS-ROM r2* *WM6.5(21887.5.0.86)* *LEO Sense 2.5 with LANDSCAPE*

deck,

With R3 getting close, can you please update us on the status of a couple things that were needing to be fixed from R2.

1) ## dialer codes. This one is a MUST HAVE for Verizon users that overlap Alltell areas.
See http://forum.ppcgeeks.com/showpost.p...&postcount=107

2) System freeze in SMS app when sliding the keyboard. Personally, I can get this to freeze without sliding the keyboard. It happens to me if I just rotate to landscape before opening the keyboard. Either way, this one is probably the #1 bug in the R2 ROM as I am sure you are aware.

3) End key should return user to the home screen. Obviously, this one is not near the priority that the first 2 are, but I think it would add a lot to the usability of this ROM.

Thanks! Keep up the good woork.

the SMS freezing IS NOT a problem in R2. It's been in a few ROMS that I've used with 2.5.

There are several people posting about the SMS app freezing in the ROM, just read the thread. The general concensus is that it happens if you slide the keyboard open before the SMS app fully loads.

I agree with the concensus that sliding the keybaord too quickly will cause the freeze.
I can also cause it to freeze just by rotating to landscape.
For me, this happens maybe 20% of the time when I am trying to reply to a text msg. It happens even if I let the app fully load.

EDIT : Sorry, pastert33. I realize now that you were stating the problem wasn't exclusive to this ROM.

This may be intended and I may be the problem . I tried settings->personal->buttons and set the end key to various options with no luck. If someone knows how to make this scenario work, that is end key takes you to the home screen and send key takes you to phone, please let me know. I am just used to the other roms..but I will be very happy to learn something new as this is the best rom I have flashed to date
lets see... the tp2 has 4 hardware buttons...send key (should take you to phone pad) but makes perfect sense to directly call the person if in the sms screen...start menu button does just that...the back key (WHICH IS THE KEY THAT TAKES YOU TO HOME SCREEN, which is why its a back key) and last the end key which can operate the quick menu (ability to lock device, flightmode, data, etc.)by a long press end key. that all seems to be standard to me...

The standard function of any cell phone out there, whether it be a flip phone or a PPC, is to have the end key return the user to the home/default screen.
you really cant be comparing oranges to banannas. and i believe "the standard" for a ppc is to have the end key pull up the quick menu. but when we have a back key what is that supposed to do...go back...back to home?

geez ok...if you really want it that badly that is the "end key" and not the back key to take you home. find an app called rhodium keyboard controller and then you can change the functions of the keys yourself. and actually this is an app every tp2 owner should have as it controls all keys and then you can truly customize your phone the way you like

hope that helps the both of you...

I am fine with the BACK soft key going back. Love it. Works perfectly.
The END hardware key on the other hand has no function.
I also stated that this was a lower priority "problem". I think it speaks loads about the quality of this ROM, that that problem is even in the top 3 things I can find wrong with it! I merely said that it would ADD to the USABILITY of the ROM.

Thanks for the suggestion on the keyboard controller, though.

it just seemed like when the end key was mentioned to go back to home, it was forgotten that the back key does that, so there would be no need to have two keys the back and end key to go home. and the end key does work, single press in call hangs up phone; single press in application should end/close app; long press should pull up quick menu or whatever option you chose in settings (go to settings/personal/buttons/endkey-chose your poison)

maybe that will help to ADD USABILITY to your end key?

Re: *ROM* *12/29* *SsS-ROM r2* *WM6.5(21887.5.0.86)* *LEO Sense 2.5 with LANDSCAPE*

OK - I see where I was confused.

I was ignoring the "BACK" hardware key and trying to use the "END" hardware key.
The END key would cause the phone to beep, but wouldnt do anything.

Because of this I was taking the long route of getting back to the home screen from within the Messaging tab of a contact (such as after a text message). I was having to use a combination of sliding to the Details tab of the contact and using softkeys and the slider bar to navigate back to the home screen.

I now see that the BACK hardware key (with the arrow making a U-turn) does immediately return the screen to the HTC Messaging tab. This is a better option.

I still maintain the idea that the true END key (the hardware key with they red phone icon) should truly end what you are doing and return home, but I certainly see it as less of a problem now.
