Ultra nOOb here. I have a Sprint Touch Pro. I did some radio flashing and here's what I have found for my area (Los Angeles/ East SFV Burbank area)

Shipped radio specs (Sprint 1.03.15F)
1x > Rx Power -96 to -100+ / Rx ec/io 14 to 21
HDR> Rx Sig Str. 97 / Rx Power -86

Verizon 1.03.09V
1x> Rx Power -88 to -92 / Rx ec/io 10 to 11
HDR> Rx Sig. Str. 85 / Rx Power -84

Telus 1.04.05V
1x> Rx Power -87 to -92 / Rx ec/io 17+
HDR> Rx Sig. Str. 93/ Rx Power -86

Alltel 1.03.13F
1x> Rx Power -99 to -102 /Rx ec/io 12 to 25
HDR> Rx Sig Str. 94/ Rx Power -90

Sprint 1.11.00F
1x> Rx Power 99 /Rx ec/io 15
HDR> Rx Sig. Str. 90/ Rx Power -88

In conclusion, the only noticeable improvement was with the Verizon radio. I will stick with that for a while and see if it makes a difference.

If I am not reporting the right values PLEASE let me know. Also let me know if there are any other values I should be taking into account.

Hopefully this helps someone.

Scrillaman, nice job. You tested more rigorously than me, but I am in total agreement with you and I think your "real world" usage will show you this one is worth sticking to. The Verizon radio is the way to go for the greater L.A. area. In my spot on the Westside it's really helped me and I was having some reception problems in my close area. I recommend all in the city give it a try. :headbang:

verizon 1.03.09 seems to work the best for me so far...gave me an extra signal bar at work where I would usually only have one...used both sprint 1.11, altel 1.03.13, and telus 1.04.05 and they would only give me one bar..

Dumped Updated Stock Alltel Radio V1.12.20F:very bad EV reception for me but 1x good still.

Verizon Touch Pro Radio V1.03.09V: EV descent. 1x good still.

Holy cow, fr0st... you must live right in my back yard! I'm in Little Chute too. Have you done any further testing? Battery's the big thing for me, but I need my EvDO too (actually rA for us Alltel users here). From reading through the rest of the thread, the favorite seems to be the Telus radio but I'm curious to see what your findings are.

just out of curiosity does anyone know what radio the HTC Snap (sprint) uses? I know its a pretty new device and since we can port diamond radios I wonder if it's possible for someone to port the snap radio, although they have different chipsets it might not turn out well...well just thought i'd ask

I'm using the Telus radio on Sprint in the Fond du Lac area and didn't see a big change besides more gps lag. I am about to try the the US Cellular and see if how that is.

Could you run some more tests with some of the newest radios.
I am curious to see how they perform.
Verizon 1.03.09 has been the best one for me so far.
Thanks.

You need to realize (something said often in these threads) that no one radio works best for everyone, not necessarily even in the same city or state. It's worth testing many of them yourself before deciding which one's best for you.

Can you tell me what area you are in? I'm on Sprint 1.11 as well but noticed that you're using a Verizon Radio. I guess using a Verizon Radio on Sprint service is not a problem?

I'm not an expert but my understanding is the radio firmware is just changing the way the radio acts. The PRL is what tells it what towers it should be using for your provider.
