I just need something to backup the necessaries to update to the newer rom.

You can use microsofts "my phone" (I think it's in tools) and back up most everything to the MS server. If you can export your settings to the SD card and restore after the update. I know with the cookie version you can export your configuration and then import it with the new rom.

EDIT: you can set up the my phone to automatically backup your phone every night. You can also log into the system from any pc and have access to your data, which includes your contacts. This is a nice benefit if you loose or break your phone

What are necessaries for you? The better strategy sort of depends on that.

At the high end, if you install lots of apps/cabs/etc., you want to use something like Sashimi/XDA_UC. Also if you do lots of registry based customizations.

If it's just data (contacts, etc), depends on where you are syncing with, but active sync, my phone, or various other choices might make it easy.

If it's Sense/Cookie customizations (can't speak for MaxSense), there are apps built into the ROM to save/restore the settings.

Custom ROMs are basically hobbiest territory, so one size does not fit all, unfortunately.

Hi NRGZ28 - I'm really new at this. I have a sprint touch pro (CMDA) and would like to know which is your latest version? I thought that phoenix 3.0 was the latest. Anyways, I downloaded the cookie 2.5 version one (7z) format - but I am unable to open it or extract it. I installed the 7z extracter and it's giving me an error. Thank you in advance.

I really want to warn you - this is not plug and play. If you like tinkering, and can put up with the occasional hiccup, there is lots of value. But if you just want it to work, don't proceed. (So, in my case, I run Cookie.Dinik, but I leave my wife on the stock ROM...)

What you see on the download page is what is current - there are 2 base versions, each with 7 variants, so 14 different current versions, all with slightly different behaviors. If this is not exciting to you, I'm not sure you want to proceed.

If you're still here, assuming you are on a PC running Windows, winrar (and many other utilities) will extract all from the .7z file.

I'm not trying to be negative, I find that depending on the drop, there are 2-48 hours where ...

I had the same problem you were having. try disabling your internet security while downloading the rom. For some strange reason my Kaspersky kept detecting a trojan and deleting files. Everytime I tried to extract I would get the same notifications.

Or If your using Ineternet Explorer a similiar issue tends to pop up as the one YAY points out... Try downloading with a different browser...

Thanks. After 4-5 attempts at different roms, I was about to give up. I will use a different browser and see if the result might change. I don't believe it's the virus thing, as it never interferes with my program installation. This may be the first time, but I doubt it. Thank you, guys. I'll let you know tomorrow whether the issue has been resolved.
