Question about VZW TP

Hey everyone, I'm new to this site, and not experienced with hacking Windows Mobile.

I've got the totally stock VZW Touch Pro:
ROM: 1.03.605.4
Radio: 1.03.03V

The problems I'm having are that my signal strength is really weak where it used to be strong, and the battery dies REALLY fast under moderate usage. Also there is no GPS functionality.

I'm in Buffalo, NY and the signal level is all over the place, and drops out frequently when I'm streaming data/music online, even in areas where my Samsung i760 had solid performance just 2 weeks ago.

I'm not sure what I need, be it a new ROM or just an upgraded radio to get a better signal. Also, GPS functionality would be nice to work with Google Maps.

I'm not looking to be held by the hand on how to do everything, but I would like to know what I should be doing to help correct these problems. If there are any special recommendations, I would much appreciate them.

Note: While I am satisfied with the current ROM (speed-wise), I wouldn't object to something else, as long as it would address some of those problems listed.

Thanks in advance,
Jonathan

Re: Question about VZW TP

When me and my brother redid my TP, my battery died very fast, he used a different radio, it now will last almost 12hours or so with me texting, calling and playing games on it, We used the Telis 1.04 or something around there

Re: Question about VZW TP

I think I'm looking for specific version numbers of a ROM or radio that would be useful in my situation. From there, I'd be happy to research things on my own, but maybe at least a link to a specific thread/post/guide would be the best. Thanks!

Re: Question about VZW TP

That's the Telus 1.04.05V that you're referring to? And that'll work on Verizon without a problem? What differences are there between this and the VZW stock radio?

What would flashing to a different ROM do for me, and how about the GPS?

Also, I see that some prefer the Sprint 1.11.00F radio. I guess I just don't know what's compatible to work with Verizon, and which is the best when considering performance/battery life.

(I apologize for the n00bish posts, it's really crazy to find info in this forum with all the 100+ postings in each thread and all the new lingo to get used to.)

Re: Question about VZW TP

Ok I'm doing the Sprint radio right now and everything's sitting at 0%, not moving at all. Any suggestions?

*Edit: I've seen mention on here about unlocking the phone too, is that something that should have been done first? I got to the bootloader screen without a problem, and it said "security unlocked" at the top of the screen...
Ok, it just told me that the update failed. It had me take the battery out, and now I'm back to normal phone. What can I do differently next time?
