Re: So Much To Learn, I need 1 on 1 Please!
What is it exactly that you'd like to learn first?

I'd start off with this thread here- http://forum.ppcgeeks.com/showthread.php?t=42730 That should get ya started in the right direction. Just remember to use the search function, and read up as much as you can before starting a thread asking for applications or advice, cuz chances are it's been discussed somewhere already. (Just some friendly advice, people tend to get upset when new threads are started about topics already in discussion elsewhere) And don't forget to click the green button and "Thank" the people here if they help you out in anyway -Keir- P.S. Welcome to the best site around for finding what you need to make the most out of your phone. You couldn't ask for a more helpful group of "Geeks" on the internet |

I in no way consider myself a expert when it comes to phones, but I will tell you that with the help of all the great people on this site, I have been able to pass along some helpful advice to old and new friends alike. I have learned so much in the year and a half since I had my first Pocket PC (Alltel 6800)....and I owe it ALL to this AWESOME site! Everyone here is so helpful. There is such a wealth of knowledge to be gained from all the "Geeks" hanging around here. You definitely won't be disappointed that you stumbled across this site....although it may develop from a mere hobby into more of an obsession like it has for so many other of us around here -Keir- |

Re: So Much To Learn, I need 1 on 1 Please!
Well Keir, I must abmit I have become obessed with tweaking my Touch Pro. I'm able to do this at night because I'm at work and I have my laptop with me here. I think I have read every Thread on how to flash, cook, etc. there is for this TP. I'm just scared i'm going to do something and mess up. I would love to watch someone do it, then I would have no problem. I have been all over youtube trying to find a video where someone is showing you step by step on how to do all these things. I'm on here every night Mon-Fri. from 11-5am. Well Keir, Thanks again and I hope to chat with you again. Caio for now!=D>

Re: So Much To Learn, I need 1 on 1 Please!
I have yet to build or flash a custom ROM myself, so I won't be able to help you out much there.
I would suggest looking into SPB Backup as far as applications go. If you're not familiar with it, it's a program you can use to back up information from your phone on to your storage card, in case you ever do screw something up and that information needs to be restored. There are several back up programs out there, but I find SPB to be the best(atleast for my needs). SPB can make a complete backup of all the information on your device, so if you ever need to do a hard reset and the phone is back at the factory settings, you can run SPB and restore the phone to the pre-Hard reset state in just a matter of minutes. I personally run a backup using this program anytime I am going to be adding new software, or making changes that I'm not 100% about. That way, if things don't work out the way I had planned, I just restore, no harm no foul The program is not free, but there is a trial period where you're allowed to do 5 backups before having to purchase. Out of all the programs that I've purchased though, I find this one to be the most invaluable. Here's a link to the SPB website where you can purchase the program or download the free trial- http://www.spbsoftwarehouse.com/products/backup/ Hope this helped -Keir- P.S. I work nights too, 10PM to 6AM central, and I'm usually on here off and on through out my shift. If you have any more questions don't hesitate to send me a private message, and I'll try my best to help you out |

Re: So Much To Learn, I need 1 on 1 Please!
You should use these 2 threads:
http://forum.ppcgeeks.com/showthread.php?t=42503 (for unlocking) http://forum.ppcgeeks.com/showthread.php?t=43266 (for flashing) But to summarize, here are the steps for unlocking and installing a ROM First thing you'll want to do is unlock your phone. I, for example, am with Sprint, so I use the file: "Raphael_CDMA_HSPL_037" How to Unlock: 1. Make sure you have your phone connected via ActiveSync/Windows Mobile Device Center 2. Double click the exe file (in my case, "Raphael_CDMA_HSPL_037") to extract it 3. Run it, and follow the prompts on the screen (keep clicking next) 4. Your phone should now enter a tri-color mode (Red, Green, Blue) 5. New SPL flashes onto the phone, and the phone automatically reboots It should now be unlocked How to Install a ROM 1. Make sure you have your phone connected via ActiveSync/Windows Mobile Device Center 2. Download your ROM of choice (I use Mighty ROM) http://forum.ppcgeeks.com/showthread.php?t=52695 3. It will be a rar file, so extract it to a folder of your choice 4. Upon extracting, you will find an exe file called "Custom_RUU" 5. Run it, and follow the prompts on the screen (keep clicking next) 6. About 3-4 minutes later or so, the phone should now be flashed to the new ROM It is suggested to Hard Reset your device before and after flashing (to remove any potential junk that may still be floating around), and the way to do that is: How to Hard Reset (optional): 1) Turn off device (by either holding down the power button or by taking off the back cover and lift the battery out slightly then push it back in so the battery is reinstalled but power still remains off) 2) press and hold the Volume down button while at the same time pressing the center "Enter" button. Keep them pressed 3) While volume down and enter buttons are pressed, press and HOLD the power button until you see a screen that says: "This operation will delete all your personal data..." <rest of verbiage snipped. 4) Follow those on-screen instructions which will tell you to push the volume up button to continue performing reset.
