Best Radio for Sprint
I'm currently using the Sprint stock rom and radio. What is the best radio for Sprint and why?
|
Re: Best Radio for Sprint
I'm using the most current Sprint Raphael radio and find it gets rid of the heat issue and brings better overall stability. Version is 1.11.00F You can find it here:
http://forum.ppcgeeks.com/showthread.php?t=46616 Those downloads shouldn't perform a hard-reset either, so you're good to try them out; just be careful. Someone did an actual scientific test to see which radio was the best overall and I think they found a split between one of the Telus ones and the Sprint 1.11.00F radio. |

Re: Best Radio for Sprint
I also use the latest Sprint radio (1.11.00F) and it is much better for me. Truly, it is going to depend on your geographic location and what kind of coverage that you get as to which radio is best for you. There are plenty of Sprint users here that are using the Telus and other radios just fine.

Re: Best Radio for Sprint
I cant seem to install that 1.10 version of the Rom using active sync. The status bar just shows 0% for a while and then the program stops and says Update error and asks me to remove the batter from the back...Is there something I'm doing wrong here?
Do I need to follow any steps before I do the ROM update? I'm running a stock sprint ROM |

Re: Best Radio for Sprint
I've been using 1.11.00F for several days now and the battery life for me is dramatically improved. Signal strength at my house is better than the stock radio, by about 1 bar. I use a fair amount of data and and between 2 and 3 hours of voice per day. The battery has yet to die during the day. I usually have 30% left at night. The old radio wouldn't last the day. I am running the stock ROM and haven't tweaked anything else on this phone (my 3rd TP) yet.

Re: Best Radio for Sprint
Your results will likely depend on your local service coverage. In my office I have marginal Sprint coverage. With the stock Sprint radio (1.03) I had 1 to 2 bars at most places in my office, with a couple of dead spots. I flashed to the Sprint 1.11 radio yesterday and had fewer bars everywhere, including a major dead spot right at my desk :(. I then flashed to the Telus radio and now have an average of 1 bar better coverage everywhere. YMMV.

Re: Best Radio for Sprint
I use the Telus v1.04; however, I've heard that the sprint v1.11 is just as good.
There's a step by step of how to flash to the Telus radio in my signature if you've never done it before. Pretty easy though. |

Re: Best Radio for Sprint
you all convinced me to flash the sprint new radio 1.11v but when I tried to flash after 5% it tell me it it the wrong rom for my device. What should I do? I am using mightyrom 4.12 and stock radio 1.03.

Re: Best Radio for Sprint
I have used both the 1.11.00F & the Telus.
They both work fine for me, I really can't decide which one has any advantage over the other. ~John |
Re: Best Radio for Sprint
I'm with Jmorton. I tried the Telus and now use the 1.11 Sprint one. They both seem the same to me but regardless much better than stock. My phone used to feel hot all the time , that is now gone and my battery life is much improved. I would say you can't go wrong with either but area must play a role. I'm in the Northeast US so we have tons of towers anyway.

Re: Best Radio for Sprint
I ran the Telus radio for a week and while I would say the signal may be a tick better, it would fluctuate more. However, the big kicker for me was, when leaving slingplayer, it would sometimes kick me into 1X mode and only a soft reset or turning data off/on would clear it.
So I went with the Sprint 1.11 radio and it has been great. No 1X issues and the signal definitely holds steadier for me, where I am. |
Re: Best Radio for Sprint
I tried sprint 1.11 radio for a week, and thoght it was great. Tried the telus radio just for comparison purposes, and its even better. Consistently getting full up bars everywhere, super battery life, and nice data speeds. Weird thing was, at first with the telus radio, the bars would go from 1 to 3 to 4 to 1 etc... all while sitting in the same spot. that has stopped, which im not sure why that is, but im not complaining.
On a side note regarding radios, if i do a backup with the telus radio, switch to the sprint 1.11 radio, then do a restore, which radio would i have after? still the sprint, or the backed up telus radio? sorry if thats a silly question, but i really dont know. Thx guys, dschoenike |

Re: Best Radio for Sprint
I switched to the Telus Radio and almost instantly noticed a difference. I was running the Sprint 1.11 Radio this morning and in 3 hours my battery dropped from 100% to 64% without doing anything. I didn't make a single call, send a text, nothing. After switching to the Telus Radio, I am now at 46% after almost 7 hours and that is with around 20 text messages and a couple short phone calls.
I haven't noticed a difference in signal strength yet, seems to be about the same as the Sprint Radio. |
Re: Best Radio for Sprint
I'm on the Sprint 1.11 Radio. WOW, what a difference a radio makes in battery/heat on this TP. I can actually pick up my phone now and it's cool to the touch. Everything seems to be working (using it for several days) with the exception that the data arrows (next to the EV icon on top) never grey out, although I suspect the phone is sleeping the connection and not showing it. Other than that little nit to pick, not a regret in the world for upgrading.

Re: Best Radio for Sprint
I tried the new Sprint 1.11 radio and reception was considerably worse than with the Telus radio, in my area anyway.

Re: Best Radio for Sprint
Hy guys, I just flashed over to the latest Sprint Radio v1.11.00F. I have been using the stock Sprint Radio v1.03.15F. I will report if I see a major difference in radios, as of now with the stock radio I have had horrible battery life and I have 3 new batteries. (I use the device a lot).
I will try out other radios and see what works best. Thanks for the ROMs Juggalo! Great work. |
Re: Best Radio for Sprint
telus radio (on sprint touch pro) all way... better battery life, reception, and from what i see better internet speeds... :)
