a few questions before i venture in...

hello all, just bought the Touch Pro (Sprint), and i LOVE IT. i'm ready to take it to the "next level" too. now, i may be new to this phone and PPC's in general. but i'm NO stranger to modding/flashing electronics. from cutting traces in my motherboard on my first PC (to overclock), to modding several xboxs and Wiis, to for my mp3 players and older phones. i'm no stranger to voiding warranty.. lol.

anywho... i've searched the forums, and many of my questions have been answere. but i still have a few..

1. i tried the reset to take it into bootloader, and it's the SPL-0.37.0000, but at the top is says security unlocked. i read in the unlocking thread someone posted that still needs to be "SPL-0.37.cmonex", but i couldn't find anything on it if it says "unlocked security". do i still need to unlock it with the SPL-0.37.cmonex?

2. if i needed to return my TP to sprint for some reason, would i need to flash it with a sprint rom THEN lock it, or just lock it?

i had one more question, but can't remember... :-\

anywho,
thank you all,

ulysses (i accidentally "fat fingered" the "a" in my user name.. lol)

Re: a few questions before i venture in...

1) Use the unlocker here: http://forum.ppcgeeks.com/attachment...2&d=1225515125

2) Always flash back to stock before bringing it into a Sprint store. To do that, relock it with http://forum.ppcgeeks.com/attachment...4&d=1225515317 and then flash the stock Sprint ROM found here http://rapidshare.com/files/17615341...3_Ship.exe.zip

Unlocker/Relocker thread: http://forum.ppcgeeks.com/showthread.php?t=42503
Stock ROM thread: http://forum.ppcgeeks.com/showthread.php?t=42741

3) If you think of it, just let me know.

That "unlocked security" doesn't mean your phone is unlocked. That will be on all phones so ignore it. The rest of the info applies, your phone still needs unlocked and will say "SPL-0.37.cmonex" when it is unlocked.

Once you get your phone flashed with the unlocker prepare to have some fun. Once you flash one rom you will probably get that flash "virus" that has been going around! You wont know where to quit. There are a lot of great roms around here, so please enjoy.

Is that order correct? Wouldn't you want to flash the stock onto it first THEN relock it? I've never done it before (still haven't even flashed a ROM yet, since I don't think stock has been treating me too poorly, though I did unlock and flash a radio)

Re: a few questions before i venture in...

Why relock at all????

I have not relocked that last 10 phones I sent back this past 18 months. Just makes it easier for the next guy who gets the phone.

Do you think the EE's that process the hundreds of returns actually check the bootloader???? **** man, I sent empty boxes back before and never got hit on it!!!!

Thats just me though. Im a sorta odd fellow and love to buck the system. Dont do what I do as you may end up in trouble.... I dont care about trouble. Its fun ;c)

But all your questions seemed to have been answered. If you think of any more we will all be glad to help.

One bit of advice though... Your questions coudl have been answered by searching smarter (?). I know for a fact in the past month I have answered BOTH of these questions at least 3 times. No, for real! Im not joking.

One question... So what exactly are you looking for going to the "next level"?

The reason I ask is because there are soooo many different ROMS on there that offer many different features. Each one has its own particular flavor/interests.

Also have you checked out the Touch Pro Essentials thread yet? The nice thing about that thread is that you can add stuff to the stock ROM without needing to reflash right way. This will give you an idea of what you like and don't like when you are ready to go to the "next level"

welp, i don't like the idea of paying $300 for a phone, and not being able to 100% customize it to my full liking..

thank you all again,
