Re: Verizon GPS Discussion

Well, as I think about this phone, I think perhaps alot depends on what areas of the ROM can be flashed. Verizon has taken quite alot of space (64 MB for the OS in the main memory of 192 MB) and a huge chunk out of the storage memory as well. Perhaps they have some settings there that cannot be overwritten? Is there anyway to clear all of that space to ensure we are starting fresh? Still learning...

Running GPS Viewer, it appears to communicate with the GPS on COM4/9600. I don't think it's throwing back any useful variables, though. This is a custom cooked ROM based on the latest kitchen.

Yeah... definitely throwing back bunk variables. Ran the same program on my Sprint Touch and it's giving me coordinates and GPS locks.

Sorry for talking to myself a lot here. Set the VZW aGPS servers in QPST's gpsOne tab. Nothing happened of course. Ah well. HTC GPS tool is still getting bunk GPS information.

I'm looking into the GPS issue on the VZW TP.

It appears that the VZW PRI is the culprit for 3rd party GPS apps not working. The GPS chip is there, it's fully functional, but just not active.

Gonna be trying a few ideas over the next week or two to try and get to the bottom of it. Hopefully I don't brick my shiny new phone in the process.

Oh, and I believe someone asked how VZNav works with the chip and nothing else....

VZNav uses the proprietary LBSDriver. Doesn't exist on custom roms.

Incorrect. I poreted it over just fine and made a custom ROM with the LBS drivers. I was in the process of posting it but illbored asked me not to. Take a look: http://forum.ppcgeeks.com/showthread.php?t=48262

No, my statement was not incorrect. It doesn't exist in custom roms UNLESS you port lbsdriver (which only exists in vzw roms).

If someone were to build a custom vzw rom for their touch pro using ppckitchen, and installed vznav, it would fail. That's what I was saying.

;) Titan Revisited... just not as simple to overcome.... glad to see your looking into this aswell

I got one more crazy approach I'm gonna try but it will be after I get off of work.

Thank you for clarifying your statement. Thats not what you said the first time. But whatever. Really doesnt matter.

Amen to that, I really wish somebody would figure this out soon. I don't want to pay for VZ Navigator, I would love to use GoogleMaps and even Microsoft Live! Search if possible sometime.... I don't have to have VZNav, since there's other GPS tools (aside from what I already mentioned).

What's the word on an easy way to unlock this crap (GPS), I hate what VZW did to my phone. I don't want to brick my phone, and am looking for a easy way to do this.

Please excuse me for now, I know I sound like a n00b, I'm very new to the Windows Mobile Scene...
