Thank you..... |

I know I did the above QPST fix on my Vogue. I wonder if the drivers would work? |
Re: Verizon GPS Discussion
It may help once the chip is unlocked but that is for A-GPS. I'm remember how happy I was the day that came out. Went from 30 second locks to 4.
|
Re: Verizon GPS Discussion
QPST. Alright. I made it through step 7 and then it did not recognize the phone and asked for a "base model" instead. I aborted...
|
Re: Verizon GPS Discussion
How about trying to install one of the other four radios? That was the necessary step with unlocking the XV6900 for VZW.

I've ran them all already :) As far as the dll thing goes. I ran a fully sprint branded rom and it didn't work. |

Is there a way to wipe the entire ROM image from the phone? It appears that the unlocker does not allow full access to the ROM memory (192 MB) Then reload a base ROM and start very clean? Just troubleshooting... let me know when I start buggin you. |

The Verizon config stays thru flashes. It's obviously wrote to a different part than what the ROM access's. Like I said I flashed Sprint's ROM and my phone worked fine. |
Re: Verizon GPS Discussion
The problem is definitely unique to the XV6850.
How exactly does VZNavigator communicate with the on-board GPS? It's not all triangulation. |
Re: Verizon GPS Discussion
Well, as I think about this phone, I think perhaps alot depends on what areas of the ROM can be flashed. Verizon has taken quite alot of space (64 MB for the OS in the main memory of 192 MB) and a huge chunk out of the storage memory as well. Perhaps they have some settings there that cannot be overwritten? Is there anyway to clear all of that space to ensure we are starting fresh? Still learning...

Re: Verizon GPS Discussion
Running GPS Viewer, it appears to communicate with the GPS on COM4/9600. I don't think it's throwing back any useful variables, though. This is a custom cooked ROM based on the latest kitchen.
|
Re: Verizon GPS Discussion
Yeah... definitely throwing back bunk variables. Ran the same program on my Sprint Touch and it's giving me coordinates and GPS locks.
|
Re: Verizon GPS Discussion
Sorry for talking to myself a lot here. Set the VZW aGPS servers in QPST's gpsOne tab. Nothing happened of course. Ah well. HTC GPS tool is still getting bunk GPS information.

Re: Verizon GPS Discussion
I'm looking into the GPS issue on the VZW TP.
It appears that the VZW PRI is the culprit for 3rd party GPS apps not working. The GPS chip is there, it's fully functional, but just not active. Gonna be trying a few ideas over the next week or two to try and get to the bottom of it. Hopefully I don't brick my shiny new phone in the process. Oh, and I believe someone asked how VZNav works with the chip and nothing else.... VZNav uses the proprietary LBSDriver. Doesn't exist on custom roms. |

If someone were to build a custom vzw rom for their touch pro using ppckitchen, and installed vznav, it would fail. That's what I was saying. |

;) Titan Revisited... just not as simple to overcome.... glad to see your looking into this aswell I got one more crazy approach I'm gonna try but it will be after I get off of work. |

Re: Verizon GPS Discussion
Amen to that, I really wish somebody would figure this out soon. I don't want to pay for VZ Navigator, I would love to use GoogleMaps and even Microsoft Live! Search if possible sometime.... I don't have to have VZNav, since there's other GPS tools (aside from what I already mentioned).
What's the word on an easy way to unlock this crap (GPS), I hate what VZW did to my phone. I don't want to brick my phone, and am looking for a easy way to do this. Please excuse me for now, I know I sound like a n00b, I'm very new to the Windows Mobile Scene... |

Good to see you on board, GC. I'd be happy to help you in any way I can, just let me know.

Re: Verizon GPS Discussion
ugghhhh big red... I just don't understand how they can do this and get away with it... with these phones becoming more mainstream now people are really looking to have the functionality of these other applications that support gps... live search.. google... ya vznavigator is great but it doesn't do everything we want in some situations.. I just don't understand how this isn't class action suit... why wouldn't they be trying to make their customers happy but providing the SAME or BETTER functionality of other carriers? this is just ridiculous but obviously arguing abt it is going to get nowhere... im just venting...
in the meantime... newegg just sent me a nice deal on Magellan GPS... I picked one of these up in the meantime to shut me up... lol cant argue for $69 + free shipping! http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16858191069 |
Re: Verizon GPS Discussion
Because a class-action lawsuit isn't the answer to everything. Idiots tried with HTC and the graphics and HTC is still throwing broken graphics accelerators into their phones. People tried suing the pants off of GM for poor intake manifold gaskets in some of their V6 engines and they still don't admit it's a problem. Unless there is some gross negligence on VZWs part (which there isn't), there are no grounds for a CAL.
Let's try to keep this topic on the tracks, though. I'd like to have a good place on the forums to discuss VZW GPS without 50 posts about how much VZW sucks and how bad their "gimp pro" is. |
Re: Verizon GPS Discussion
Quick Update:
Dug thru all the NV GPS Values and found only 2 tags with entries which turned out to be almost the same as my Titan. Only difference was the value for RF Loss. 53 TP, 60 Titan. The search continues...... |
Re: Verizon GPS Discussion
Does GPS work "unlocked" when someone ports a sprint touch pro to verizon?
|
Re: Verizon GPS Discussion
Good old Verizon

Re: Verizon GPS Discussion
Yes, but they get no EV-DO, and personally I'd rather have broken GPS than no EV. (But damn that extra memory would be nice :P )
The problem likely lies in the PRI of the VZW phone. |
Re: Verizon GPS Discussion
Can someone with Sprint who is fimiliar with QPST get me the values of NV item 256 index 0 and 1,400,401,402,403,404,415,426,429,4695 and 4704 or possibly pass me a copy of your NV backup. There is a chance you will have to export your NV files then review that instead of straight from the device. I looked at every single item that had a GPS label and didn't see any of the values I see in my backup copy I made while I was exploring.
This non-functional GPS has me scrathing like a meth head. Any help would be greatly appreciated. |

Both would be great. If not too much of a hassle. Especially since the TP works on VZW. If had had both I would know if your VZW TP has the same entires, then aslo know the stock sprint setting from the Diamond. |

Re: Sprint Users I need your help!!! Verizon GPS Discussion
When connect in QPST you need to hit the "phone" dialog at the top and then save VR files. I need a copy of that file or the values from the items I posted.

Re: Sprint Users I need your help!!! Verizon GPS Discussion
I'm ready to try any ideas with QPST on my Verizon TP. I have the Telus radio loaded now (but could switch back to Verizon or to some other radio if needed), and I'm running the stock Verizon ROM and likewise could change to a different ROM if needed.
Someone mentioned the PRI potentially being where this is locked. Forgive ignorance, but what is the PRI and is it viewable with QPST? |

Re: Sprint Users I need your help!!! Verizon GPS Discussion
I do have a sprint Touch pro working on Verizon. I am familiar with QPST and have functioning stand alone gps. I believe my device has the 1.47_003 PRI also. To get the gps to work at all I had to manually select COM4 and baud rate 4800 in google maps instead of windows automatic management. Let me see if I can export a few keys here...
As an edit, how do I save VR files? I clicked save and can not find them in the /bin folder where the rest of my backed up files from QPST go. I am kinda new to the process tht you described here. any help? I would love to help contribute here for once :D |

Try saving it to a different folder such as "My Documents" to see if it's actually saving. |
Re: Sprint Users I need your help!!! Verizon GPS Discussion
I have a Sprint Touch Pro on Verizon with the Verizon ROM. My GPS appears to work sporadically, but when it functions it works great with instant locks and 8-10 sats. When it doesn't function it simply won't initialize in Google Maps or Live Search. I've installed the GPS provisioning CAB that was in one of the diamond threads and is referenced in the Sprint to Verizon TP tutorial thread, and I've also done the QPST aGPS hacks from the titan.
Interestingly enough, I had my best luck getting it to work when I was on US Cellular towers in rural Iowa. |
