Hope this goes through well. I'm almost certain I won't buy the device until this is figured out.

I bought it anyways but am using the VZ Nav 30 day free trial and am hoping gps gets unlocked before I have to return the phone and cancel VZ Nav. I like the turn by turn directions ok, but the basic gps functionality with VZ Nav sucks. I like the device so much though that I will probably keep it or get a Sprint and bring it over to Verizon (I can't change from Verizon) if the gps never gets unlocked.

I agree with you on this. My guess is someone will have it unlocked before Verizon unlocks it for us.

Re: Verizon GPS Discussion

Hm... I'm excited for this, but it does seem too good to be true. I usually try to assume that Verizon is going to try and make money off of it. With that, do you think that they will open the GPS for all applications, for free? Or does this merely mean, if you decide to get the VZNav for $10/month, this will allow you to use their navigator application, as well as other software in conjunction? I hope it's the former of the two.

That quote always reminded me of the automated response VZW reps give me when I ask them why the hell are they so slow to come out with the same phone Sprint has? "We make sure our phones are fully tested and up to our standards so there are no problems when releasing them" blah blah blah, stupid Verizon!

But I won't leave... :(

This is a complex development project to provide open standalone GPS while maintaining the assisted GPS capability with the level of performance and security that our customers expect.
This whole sentence from the article is bull. The capability is implemented, it is tested, and works fine. The beancounters at VZW simply locked it down, but they will never admit it.
VZ Navigator's inability to work with vanilla GPSAPI in WM 6.0 is due to their own greediness. This is what happens when one develops cruddy proprietary interfaces.

Hey, I am optimistic. Either Verizon provides it soon or someone will figure out how to port over settings/firmware/ROM/etc from a working GPS implementation on a Touch Pro.

We should get GPS on this device very soon!

I'm not sure what gave you that idea, but it's not true.

I have a sprint TP activated on vz with the leaked vz ROM, my GPS works fine (although it doesn't lock as fast as my old 6800 with the aGPS tweaks did) & I have EV-DO working just fine.

I was under the impression all of the Sprint equipped phone guys had broken EV due to VZW's AAA server not recognizing the device. My apologies! Thanks for the correction!

I also have EVDO, but my GPS only works intermittantly. It's either perfect with instant locks of 8-11 sats or fails to initialize.

Wow, that would definitely make me keep my Verizon TP, but if the Sprint TP does everthing the Verizon TP does on the VZW network, then that's good. :)

I doubt this will work, but has anyone tried loading the original Titan 1.35 PRI?
Since we can port over LBSDrivers, would it be possible for someone to edit them. I imagine the would need to be decompiled then recompiled before editing, but that's possible.

Re: Verizon GPS Discussion

I never got an answer the last few times I have asked, but doesnt the gps functionality have to do with The PRI? Why not install the one from the sprint touch pro ROM and live with the roaming triangle? If a sprint phone flashed over and edited to make work on verizon is fully functional, couldnt you go the other way and put a sprint PRI on a verizon device and get that working? Maybe I am just stupid?

lol..... been there done that.... I can't get this device to take any PRI Update. If I can get it figured out there is a good possibility the GPS will unlock with the correct intermediate drivers installed.

Not so far. I even tried to load the complete setting from yours and another one I aquired. Neither were successfull. I haven't given up though. Just been working on a custom rom the last 2 days along with work, wife and 4 kids.

hmm...will it work on a custom rom?

Or what it we flash a sprint rom to the XV6850 then re-verizon-ize the sprint rom but on the verizon device... I don't think the actual GPS chip is different, just the way the main rom interacts. BTW does anyone know what EXACTLY on the phone persists through all radio, HSPL, and rom flashes?

the VZW PRI persists through all ROM flashes.... I flashed the shipped sprint rom with radio, pri and all.... vzw still stuck..... the custom rom I'm working on doesn't really have anything to do with gps other than I'm gonna go ahead and load sprint drivers for future use.....I'm trying to figure out what limits the PRI from installing....

Re: Verizon GPS Discussion

this may be a stupid question, but is it possible to change the pri on a sprint touch pro? I am curious if the inability to change the pri is somehow verizon specific. If it is able to be changed on other phones, could it be that verizon's dedication of memory to the os that is not user accessible is where they are keeping the pri?

I have a SPCS TouchPRO flashed to VzW with telus radio and VzW PRI with working GPS REVA/EVDO and VVM.... So not entirely sure whats up with that still working with GC testing things...

Any ideas on how to get the Sprint PRI onto the VZW device?

gc14 12-19-2008 03:37 PM

Re: Verizon GPS Discussion

It's not the PRI that's causing the GPS not to function. My Sprint TP (on the Verizon network) has the Verizon PRI on it, and we've successfully gotten it to work 100% with AGPS. If it was the PRI that was causing the problem, it wouldn't work on the Sprint device either.

lllboredlll 12-19-2008 03:52 PM

Re: Verizon GPS Discussion

Still again how could I get the Sprint PRI on a VZW device. I could be dead wrong but I still feel if I could get the Sprint PRI to load then go back to VZW PRI the GPS very well might work. I've been all thru the NV values, used sprint ROM's, config'd for AGPS yet it still doesn't work. I'd like to completely rule out the PRI. I know you guys are running Sprint phones with VZW PRI's but that don't equate to the same test results because of what you started with.

EDIT: I agree that it's most likely not just a PRI thing. It's more likely something within the original programming that needs to be changed. I want to see if Sprint's PRI changes that. It's worth trying.... atleast to me it is

I am proud to say "You're dead wrong my friend" hahahahahahaha VZW device with working GPS...............f**k yeah..... I'm going to do a little bit more testing before I release my findings but I'm sitting here at my desk with a VZW TP and 8 sats connected :D

Yes but it takes testing time. At the moment it works but my device thinks I'm on alltel's network. I don't want you guys having a million questions and issues. So please be patient... I want this to be unflawed for you guys. I promise you it will be released :) I'm dying to get these last tiny issues straight before I release the GPS Fix.

great work. I'll be interested to hear if you suffer from the cursor position lag problem that the rest of us are having, where real time GPS apps, such as TomTom, indicate a 3-5 second delay in reporting your current position.
