No offense to Sprint support, but even most Sprint techs will largely be clueless as to the state of the SPL. But that doesn't mean that if they do catch it/know about it, they won't do anything about it.
Try this: make sure that your computer is okay with the drivers needed to communicate with the phone when it is in bootloader mode. boot up the phone in bootloader mode, and then connect it to the PC. If you still get the error, its probably a driver issue. Make sure you have the latest version of WMDC/ActiveSync. If you don't have any errors (the phone will say USB on it and the PC shouldn't have any new hardware stuff icons in the taskbar) then it was probably a one time error and you can just retry the process.
If you are still having errors, try doing the above procedure on another computer (make sure that it can connect via activesync as well). Good luck.
