The Just Works 6.1 21055 Rom

Windows 6.1 Professional 21055 build

UPDATED 7/24! Made a few changes to the skin, taskbar, and some other under the hood changes as well. Whole things running a little better since i reworked the kitchen i use to make this rom.
UPDATED 5/22! Added some settings and bits to fix the default Internet Browser manilla tab issue! See below for files and instructions!
UPDATED 5/6! Fixes to some of the small issues, adding Telus carrier rom!
UPDATED 4/26! Tweaks to fix the taskbar icon (thanks to tank)

This is a simple, easy to use and fast rom. This rom does not have any extra software, you put what you want on this rom, it comes with only the tools needed to be fast and efficient. (This means there is no browser included either. You choose which one works best for you and install it.)

It uses Manilla 1.2 with a sleek basic black skin. I know it is relatively unsophisticated, but I made this rom for myself and anyone who does NOT want the latest build of 6.5 (I have yet to find a single build of 6.5 that was truly as fast or as stable as it was billed to be). If you want the latest greatest, this is not the rom for you.

If you want a phone that works efficiently and does not crash, lag or break, this is the rom for you.

Credits and thanks go to Calkulin, as I am using his kitchen as a base(though discontinued). I have changed and added and subtracted things from it, but I couldn't have done anything without his work and a lot of help from many others! :drunken:

I have made 3 roms for the time being, one for alltel (which I am still on), one for Sprint, and a generic carrier rom, for everyone else. All of the roms have a 24mb pagepool size, I have included the pagepool changer, so if you are installing for a verizon phone, you must decrease the pagepool to 6mb (i think, im not on verizon so i could be wrong). If you need help doing this, just let me know.

Please let me know if you like it, if you dont like it, suggestions, etc! If you would like a tweak or two for your own personal rom, just request it and I'll do my best to facilitate it. I'm not very good with themes, but I can probably help with custom programs, etc.

Use at your own risk. I have tested this rom quite a bit and have pretty good confidence in it (had it on my phone for 2 months continuously) but I am not responsible for any harm that comes to your phone as a result of using my roms. Your phone must be unlocked to use this.

*UPDATE TO FIX THE MANILA BROWSER TAB ISSUE!*
Ok, Install the desired browser in the default folder. Do not change where the files go, let the installer install ON the device, not on your storage card. Then download the file below that corresponds to the browser you installed. Unrar it, and place the file (InternetPortal-en-us.xml) into the /Application Data/Manila folder on your device. Soft reset, and you should be good to go!

Hey, I flashed the Sprint Rom real quick before I was flashing another and noticed an error on the Music tab. The popup says "The file 'AudioManager_eng' cannot be opened. Either it is not signed with a trusted certificate, or one of its components cannot be found. If the problem persists, try reinstalling or restoring this file."

Other than that it seems very quick, snappy.

good to see im not the only person here that does belive that the bloated slow and unstable build called 6.5 and 6.5.x is not worth giving up a faster and more stable 6.1 (that can have beauty added to it)

Dangit dangit dangit. Im aware of this problem, and I have a little program in the kitchen that fixes it, and somehow inbetween checking everything, saving and building it got unselected... I have NO idea how. I will rebuild, update and repost them in short order!! Many apologies!

*Edit: Reposted all 3 roms with fixed (hopefully) audiomanager. If anyone out there can give it a try and make sure its fixed, i would greatly appreciate it :)

There isn't a browser installed. You'll have to install one for that to work. I'd give one of these a try.

Yep, as roguefoxx said, you must install one yourself. I left a browser out specifically because everyone seems to want a different one. Even within opera there are as many versions and betas that people prefer. I personally have Opera for most things and have skyfire installed as well in case opera cannot do something.

in that case u must be in skyfire a lot because I find that there are quite a bit of things that opera can't do.the new internet explorer mobile does more. I don't get why that's not included in this rom as that is the only reason why I would want a 6.1.21055 rom.

It works for me on my Alltel build, I dont have Sprint, so I can't vouch for that build, but I would imagine it should.

i just need to say thank you, i have been fighting this phone for 6 months trying to get things working. i am on my 5th tp and each one is worse than the one before. i installed this and the phone has never worked this good, i love the bare bones slimed down weight reduction sports car rom.

2 things/questions

the service indicater just dot dot dots, anyway to change/fix it so it shows how many bars of service you have?

gps, google maps dosnt have the option in the menu to use gps, so what do i need to download to enable gps(like before i had external gps in my programs group)

You're welcome! Im really really glad that my rom helped somebodys phone get back to what its supposed to do. That makes my decision to release my n00b attempt at a rom seriously worthwhile.

As far as your issues go:

1. The signal icon. this is a problem i know about. for some reason, NOTHING i do will fix the stock signal indicator. NOTHING! lol. the best thing i have found to do is install an aftermarket taskbar. tsowens or the gf round one are both nice, but they're colorful and dont really fit with my stealth black metal feel im trying to go for. Im just about to update the links on the front for the newest edition, and i thought i had fixed the problem there, as i found a metal taskbar skin that looks great. It replaces EVERY icon EXCEPT the signal icon... so... *censored*. :-P

2. Im not aware of this issue, ill give it a try and see if i can mess with it. Google maps work for me just fine, expecially if i use quickgps to get the data first. the use gps is now buried inside another menu ("options i think) in the latest versions of google maps, just make sure you didnt miss it in there. Ill do some research and see what i can turn up. You also may need to go into settings and turn the locations button on, if you need instructions for that pm me and ill guide you to it.

lol i installed a old version of google maps that the menu didt have use gps

i found external gps in the settings tab, lol

however i didnt find quick gps, do you have to dl it? or am i noobing out again

Try looking in start menu:programs:tools folder, if its not in there then something didnt get installed when i created your rom. Let me know :)

yeah i found it, ive been useing this phone for about a year so im used to the stock alltel rom, everything is so different so thanks for your help

a note though, i hoped the rom would fix gps, but it still dont work, it did not work before the rom upload and it did not work on the last 3 tps i had too, it has only worked on my first t

Try flashing another radio from HERE my gps works best with Telus radio (not saying it will fix a broken gps reciever but worth a try)

i like this rom alot. I have the verizon tp and have been running alot of different 6.5.x roms, but this is much more stable, noticable even after one day.

How do I remove tabs from manila? Also my city does not show up for weather. how do I fix this? Installing Opera 10 does not seem to fix the browser issue.

To add my city in the weather tab, i use the meins weather database editor 1.1. this has always worked well, but you have to know the city code for the weather database. Check around and im sure you can find a tutorial to use this program. Also im sure tank's solution would work just fine as well, i havent had a chance to check it out, but he knows waaaaaay more than I do :)

Ditto on tanks response, ive also found the telus rom really works well. Also make sure you go into the settings and turn location on (from just 911 to full)

first of all i would like to thank you for this rom it works really good, but im having a little trouble with it. For some reason i cant receive text messages, is there like a patch for this or am i doing something wrong?

Hmm.. that is odd indeed. All you should have to do is download and flash the sprint version of the rom, and you should be good to go. can you make phonecalls properly? Best thing i can figure is to load the radio you usually use, then do whatever you need to do to update your prl. I have had issues here that sometimes if I flash a stock rom (with the old radio and prl) and then update to a cooked rom and dont update the prl when i update the radio, the texts get sorta stuck, and then i get a ton at once, and sometimes none at all. Try checking your PRL version against what its supposed to be, and go from there. Let me know!

This is a new issue, anyone else having this one please let me know, or contribute if you have some idea what could be going on?

thanks for all the help, but i figured out the problem, it was actually my friends phone the one that was not sending messages. cause i tried with some of my other friends phones and it works great (i also update my prl). im sorry for bringing a new "fake" problem (im kind of a noob at this), but i have one more question, i noticed when i connected the phone to the computer i had the option to use it as a modem dose any one know if sprint will charge me if i use it?

Hrmm.. im not sure, i wouldnt THINK so, but i dont use sprint, and am not familiar with their policies. Can any of you sprint peeps out there help with this question?

Btw, dont you worry one bit about a noob question or a fake problem, tell me whats going on and we'll try to figure it out best we can. As far as im concerned theres no stupid question, cause ive asked them all already :-P I am most certainly a n00b myself :-D
