dont you have your contacts sync'd with Google on your EVO?

Titanium doesn't do contacts I don't think...only apps and app data...least thats all i every used it for.

I never used Sprite on android.

Has anyone installed the update and root was still working? Im wondering if I should root first then install update or install update then root or not install update at all, lol.

When I got my phone yesterday an Update came in before I made it home and read that I shouldn't accept upgrades...so of course I accepted the update. When I got home I read I shouldn't do updates but I tried the root anyway and it worked.

This is what my phone says it has:

Firmware Version 2.1-update 1
Baseband Version 1.39.00.004.26
Kernel version 2.6.29-a2443432 htc-kernel@and18-2 #1
build number 1.32.651.1.CL171253 test-keys
Software number 1.32.651.1
Browser version Webkit 3.1
PRI Version 1.40_003
PRL Version 60665

Oh, and I haven't done any updates since rooting.

How is this ROM running??

Re: OMJ's HTC EVO 2.1 Custom ROM *beta*

one thing i noticed is that it doesnt seem as if wifi tethering is working but it isnt like that was an option before.. the good news is it is fully rooted now which is much better than the unrevoked release.. not a huge difference from what i noticed compared to the rooted shipped rom that was released but no real big issues either so its a start

toenail, did you do the OTA update? If so when? Before or after you rooted? I want to root sooo bad but i installed the OTA and am nervous, lol. Also, are you missing any apps in the market?

toenail 06-05-2010 03:05 PM

Re: OMJ's HTC EVO 2.1 Custom ROM *beta*

yeah i did the ota yesterday and did the root this morning.. however even after update yesterday, after installing the custom rom i was welcomed with the prompt that an update was available again around 10mins ago and that one i didnt not accept, dont know if that is a new one or if the update i did yesterday was specific the the rom that i had installed at the time.. but im done with the updates, yesterdays was the only one i was willing to do, dont want to take the chance of losing root access

oh yeah, and you asked if i was missing anything.. no everything is 100% if anything things were added like superuser permissions, and the wifi tether which isnt working for me, plus i now had the ability to add titanium to backup my goods

I did the xda unroot when I did mine.

Thx guys, toe which root did use? Unrevoked or the normal xda one? I'm gonna root through the xda method later tonight. Thx for all the info guys.

Re: OMJ's HTC EVO 2.1 Custom ROM *beta*

I have no idea what any of this means. Root, un-root? But I'll find out in a couple of days. Hopefully theres a fix for the tethering by then as that is all I hope to gain.

basically just think of the word root as unlocked or jailbroken

I am new to Android and waiting for my EVO to arrive in a day or so. I believe that Android is Linux based, so I assume rooting your phone is getting administrative privileges to the 'root' level. However, what benefit does it provide on Android? Is it required to flash a new ROM? Is there an alternative app store like Cydia on the iPhone? I appreciate anyone willing to educate me (and I am sure others) on this topic.

You are correct, that's exactly what root is. To flash custom you do need root access and certain programs also require root access, but of course you may not need them. There are places to buy apps other then marketplace, they are posted everywhere in comments of applications.

I'm having the same issue. I can connect to the phone, but the laptop does not have internet.
Is there an option to tether using USB that works besides PDANet?

I havent had alot of time to play w/ EVO & customizing, but more updates will come. I plan on removing the Sprint crap & possibly Sense (though personally I like it).

Has anyone tried a different wifi tether app?

just curious how you are tying to flash the shipped, as I have not tried. I assume just running the .exe?

All this looks very exciting! I think i'll wait another couple of weeks until everything gets sorted out. I'm in a 4G area and would like to retain 4G and want wifi tethering. Now to get used to Android :) Thanks for all the hard work.

I dont have the hotspot on my account, so when I try to launch it, I get a data call failure, error code 67. I got this on the stock rom too

what i did was flash the one from xda and then i plugged it in but didn't let it connect to htc sync and then i used the updated ruu found from the evo upgrades section of this site, it's in the shipped rom thread

4g only works, not 3g hotspot, so iy maynot have worked

I heard its supposed to work for 3g and 4g, but I might be wrong. Either way I'd just root it because the wifi tether app is just as good in my opinion :)

Wifi Tethering works perfectly. You do have to root to use it though. The unrevoked site is super easy. Takes about 5secs and does everything for your.

Here's the thread w/ the working wifi tethering app (no work around needed) http://forum.ppcgeeks.com/showthread...85#post1797585

Here's the link to the developers site. Use a barcode scanner to download.

As far as customizations, I'd wouldn't mind getting rid of the Sprint stuff, but I really like Sense UI. People can disable if they don't like it. And, unlike the diamond, space really isn't an issue. Otherwise, you'll end up maintaining several types of roms for 1 device again.

Wifi tethering works. See my response to SCOTTYDO

nice find, thanks....I can confirm this version of wifi tether works great! It will be included in my next rom, I have attached the file, unzip to sd card, use root explorer to install
