1) Download the stock rom. See HTC site or sticky note for http://forum.ppcgeeks.com/forumdisplay.php?f=67 (I downloaded the alltel rom from the htc website)

2) Boot the phone into the bootloader screen (multicolor screen). See previous posts or http://forum.ppcgeeks.com/forumdisplay.php?f=67

Boot to multicolor screen:
i)Pull battery, wait 5 seconds
ii)Put battery back in
iii)Press the Volume Down button
iv)While holding volume down, press and hold the power button, this will put you into bootloader(tri-color screen)
v)Plug in USB cable
vi)Flash

3) Install stock rom while multicolor screen is displayed.

4) Hard reset the phone

There are two main methods:
i. Power + VolumeDown + Enter (circle button) and hold down Reset until the white screen appears, then press VolumeUp to Hard Reset.
ii. Goto Start > Settings > System > Clear Storage. You can then choose to Clear Storage, Format internal storage only (the 4GB memory), or Clear storage and format internal storage. Once you've made your choice, type in 1234 to the box at the bottom, and then click Yes.

5) Installed mrom6 via normal methods.

This worked for me. Thanks.
This emergency bailout procedure worked very well. Thank you very much. Never too old to learn new tricks.

things to know:
1. i followed the usual (flash to shipped, flash to MR6, hard reset/clear storage)
2. the freeze would only happen when using the threaded text (not the original like when you hit the text button from the people window in tf3d)
3. i tried texting through tf3d and titanium plug-ins and the problem occurred when using both

besides that the rom ran amazingly. i'm back on MR5 beta and i noticed the problem also occurred on that version but not even nearly as much and it would recover after 5-10 seconds so i'd call it more of a "hiccup" then a "freeze"

Was there a fix for this? I have the same exact problem. Whenever I try to leave the text screen it locks up and I have to soft reset.
A temporary solution-goto menu and select close. That has closed every time without freezing. I wonder why the X causes a problem?

Edit: Scratch that now using menu, close freezes also...

I do a lot of research and now I can't remember where I found this info. The text freeze issue is tied to how many texts you have saved. If there are a lot it freezes when you try to close it. Deleting all those extra texts has resolved my problem for now. A permanent fix would be nice but I didn't really need all those texts anyway.

Just the opposite for me - I was on MR4 (Victor) for a long time but finally got hit with the ringer bug last week. I decided to make the leap to MR6 and I cannot believe how fast and robust it is. I'm kicking myself for waiting so long.
