Re: June 1x 2009 ||| alRom 0.10.8

G'Day Al,

I just flashed your 6.1 Frugal ROM to my new Telus Diamond and I must say that I'm very impressed. Stable, super quick and lite. A little saddened to hear that the frugal version is being discontinued.

Count me in as a fan

Frugal is just done, it can't get any better. No updating needed.

Before I go on, here are some changes I've made to the ROM in general. First off, I'm dropping Frugal edition: as it stands right now, it's a very fast, lightweight and stable ROM that feels stock. I don't see any major improvements that can be brought upon it. Next, Edge will lose its name: there will only be alRom now. I'm trying to achieve a balance between having the latest software, time for me work stabilize the ROM, time for me for other things, and time for you between flashes. I think a bi-weekly release cycle would be a fair balance, and would offer pretty major updates at every release. That is, one release every two weeks, not two releases every week.

Another thing I'll clarify is the version scheme. All releases will have a three-number version, where the first number is the major revision, the second number is the minor revision, and the last number is my own stability/polish rating from 0 to 10.

Finally, I'll reiterate the main goal of this ROM. alRom aims to provide a clean and polished out-of-the-box experience that requires little extra configuration to be usable. In short, flash and go.

At long last, a quick overview of my imminent release, alRom 0.10.8.
Code:
> Windows Mobile 6.5 build 21806 [thanks to da_reeseboy and all those imvolved]
> XIP and OEMDrivers optimized using nueSpinLockPatcher [thanks to No2chem]
> Updated D3D drivers [thanks to Juicy]
> Opera Mobile 9.7b1 [thanks to Opera Software ASA]
+ WM7 Titanium Project, including TitaniumWhether and Opera Favorites [thanks to everyone involved]
* Built using Calkulin's 4.8 kitchen
* UPX compression [script from Juicy's kitchen]
I figure I might as well release my kitchen; lots of chefs are doing that nowadays.

I'll probably release either tonight or tomorrow morning. Stay tuned!

I am going to give this build a try, but you may want to consider putting this on the first post. When I first tried to download Edge and I got an error I almost gave up but I decided to read the thread. Just a thought....Thanks for the build!

Re: June 1x 2009 ||| alRom 0.10.8

Thanks for your support, guys. (: Right now I have a showstopper that I'm investigating: WMP eats memory like mad, and playing music from Titanium depends on it. I'm also reverting to Opera Mobile 9.5.16643; the new beta may be smoother graphically, but I found that it doesn't render as fast and as nicely as the 9.5 OEM builds.

So, an updated list if highlights:
Code:
> Windows Mobile 6.5 build 21806 [thanks to da_reeseboy and all those imvolved] (may change)
> XIP and OEMDrivers optimized using nueSpinLockPatcher, optimized GxDMA.dll [thanks to No2chem]
> Updated D3D drivers [thanks to Juicy]
> Opera Mobile 9.5.16643 [thanks to Opera Software ASA]
+ WM7 Titanium Project, including TitaniumWhether and Opera Favorites [thanks to everyone involved]
* Built using Calkulin's 4.8 kitchen
* UPX compression [script from Juicy's kitchen]

alRom by Al.
alRom 0.10.8 - released June 11th 2009

alRom aims to provide the best user experience right out of the box. It's not the lightest, but it's fully functional with most things accessible right from Titanium.

Code:

Re: June 1x 2009 ||| alRom 0.10.8

Al ... I just flashed the new ROM and it works really well. My only problem is that it's missing MSN weather so Showaco's Titanium Weather Details doesn't work.

The orange splash screen makes the red text that it's setting up hard to read.

I've also got to admit, I really don't care for the WM 7 large panel. Most apps have a lot of dead space. I know it's personal preference but anyway to get it with the base 6.5 panels?

Other than these things, it installed easily and is performing better than any other ROM I've tried.

Great work - thanks.

Re: June 1x 2009 ||| alRom 0.10.8

Yeah, I might remove the WM7 panels in the next release.

For weather though, can't you just slide across to the details?
