Have you checked the Device Information under settings? The esn is listed there, and how about the Bar code behind the battery. ESN should be there as well.

If none of those helps. Not a solution, but maybe an explanation:

I have seen phones being sold on Ebay purely for parts because the phones were not issued ESN's for whatever reason, and therefore would be missing those NVM folders.

Where did you acquire this phone?
