Backup And Restore Favorites After Flash For Touch 3d...
So there was a recent question that was posted here on how do you restore the favorite people in TouchFlo 3D. In one of the discussion and fellow poster said that he used the Autorun approach to copy the pim.vol located in root of the phone (the \ folder) and it worked very well so credit goes to him. I found something extra that the pim.vol is used by TouchFlo 3d to store your favorite information under the People tab.
Link to previous thread: http://forum.ppcgeeks.com/showthread.php?t=45414 OK, this is what you can do. Sync up all your contact to your phone first. Then go to the People tab, add whoever you want to appear as your favorite using the T3D interface (+ sign). Once done, copy the pim.vol located in the root directory "\" to your Internal Storage memory. Now you can restore that file after you flash by couple of ways, by using UCAutorun and put the following lines into the SDConfig.txt: CPY1:\Internal Storage\pim.vol CPY2:\pim.vol What this will do is after you flash and if you have UCAutorun enabled, it will copy the pim.vol to \pim.vol. Alternatively, you can take this pim.vol to an OEM folder somewhere and use initflashfiles.txt to copy it and your initflashfiles.txt should be like this: Directory("\"):-File("pim.vol","\windows\pim.vol") So either way, after you flash, go to the People tab and you should see all your favorites as well as your entire contact list. Moreover, the pimp.vol also contains your previous call logs as well. Some side notes: In the Touch 2D interface I had for my Touch, it uses registry to store this information, but apparently it changed for Touch 3D. Hope this helps. |

hey guy, i think the pim.vol is only containing contact, call history and such not anything related to system performance. I could be wrong, but i used it now and systems seems very stable just like before I had done this approach.

This will save me a lot of the hassle of flashing! losing all that little stuff has kept me from flashing as much as I would have liked. I am going to try this out now.

i backed up this file before flashing and restored it afterward and i got no people
but i guess my problem is that the file is in use when the phone is running so you can't simply just copy it over Last edited by signde; 12-01-2008 at 05:06 PM. |

Re: Backup And Restore Favorites After Flash For Touch 3d...
I use TotalCommander to copy the PIM.VOL file to and from my SD card everytime I do a hard reset. Everything returns, including but not limited to: TF3D People, Call History, Assigned Ring Tones per contact (just make sure you restore the rings as well), the photos for each contact (restore those too) ... once you're done with all that, do a soft reset. It saves a ton of time.
I got so tired of losing my special ring tone settings for my favorite folks. Syncing does not back up that data.

you can follow this same technique to restore your opera favourites and your custom cities for the weather tab as well. Just copy these statements into your sdconfig;
CPY1:\Internal Storage\cabs\weather\2330fc3c_manila CPY2:\Windows\2330fc3c_manila CPY1:\Internal Storage\cabs\opera6.adr CPY2:\Windows\Opera9\opera6.adr |
