Re: [DEC 5th New Telus Radio V1.04.05V] Official CDMA Diamond Radio Thread

I just tried the Telus radio vs the stock sprint radio, and what a world of difference it makes!!

More battery and receiver is much more sensitive that it was before. I used to get 1-0 bars in my basement and now I get 3-4!

Don't know about battery life yet though will report with more testing.

Thanks all!!

Phone must be unlocked see here
Download your desired radio rom from the first post.
Back up your MIP settings by entering ##778# in your phone then click on edit and then enter your SID.
Then run the "ROMUpdateUtility.exe" from the download radio rom.

I must add a huge TY to the OP I use to drop calls all the time at my house and now it looks like I am getting a steady 4 bars (this is with going from Sprint stock to Verizon).

Sorry, total n00b question here: where can I find the SID on my Diamond. I found the MSID, but that number (my phone number) is too long to be the SID. Thanks...

Re: [DEC 5th New Telus Radio V1.04.05V] Official CDMA Diamond Radio Thread

From my findings going on a road trip by using both the new sprint radio gives me better data through put on average 250-400kbps more using various and the same cell cites; than the telus radio BUT the telus radio gives me slightly 1-2 bars better signal which gives more battery. I have also found that I get a weird clicking while traveling and stationary with the telus radio vs the sprint radio(1.03.15F) which doesn't have the clicking. Both radios are good but think I am currently sticking with the telus radio due to the better signal. I will retry and see if I can get the clicking to be reproduced (might be tower switching, but never heard it before). I am using juicy 4.4. How's the data on the VZW radio compared to the sprint radio???

Any word on the 1.07 new telus radio?

so you can just flash the radio like you flash the rom thru the internal storage. tome mail, look up the post on flashing from 4 gig internal storage: http://forum.ppcgeeks.com/showthread.php?t=40490

SID? I think he means your MSL/SPC code - you need it to enter the menu. You need to call Sprint technical support (or the technical support of your wireless carrier) and hope that they give it to you. Others will give you tips on how to ask. Personally, my story was that I needed the code to enter the service menu because I accidentally changed something I shouldn't have the last time technical support helped me and now I don't have data working. Call tech support, they are the easiest to get it from.

Others directly asked for the MSL and it worked.

There are software tools used to calculate the SPC as well as a reg tweak, but I have found that neither really work for me. Call first and then use these as your last resort. Your MSL/SPC should never change as long as you don't do any advanced hacks to specifically change it.

OK, between all the dire warnings about flashiong a new radio ROM and this, I think I'll just stay with the stock radio (I'm a coward).

Thanks for the info.

I understand you being nervous about this process. Truthfully, this is getting a little blown out of proportion. Flashing a radio rom is pretty much the same as flashing a normal rom. The only difference is the if things go south (someone turns the power off your computer while flashing, you pull the usb plug out, lightning strikes, etc), the process of fixing the device are much more involved than if you mess up a normal rom flash and sometimes it just not fixable. However, the chance of something going wrong is minimal. What they are saying is you should have the information backed up by writing down these numbers(your MIP settings) or someone even suggested taking pictures of these screens just in case. I did this with my digital camera. You just need your unlock number which is provided to you by Sprint if you ask for it.

Really the radios are all fairly similiar but the newer ones do provide some benefits over the stock radio rom. This is based off many users experiences but it also depends on how your use your device. If you are getting a good signal now, don't use data that much or gps, phone doesn't get too warm, then you probably don't need to do this. But most people that use their phones alot find the newer radios to provide better battery life, signal strength, and less heat on the hand (some getting the benefit of all three, some getting one benefit). So it all depends on your preference being comfortable with the process. It's really not a big deal but people just want you to be aware of the dangers that are possible but very improbable.

I dropped the VZW radio into a custom RUU that won't hard reset your phone before I flashed. Here's a rapidshare link for those that want the radio but don't want the hard reset. It's only good for 10 dl's so if someone has premium account and would like to host for others, that would be cool. Also be nice to update the first post. =)
