you know what's interesting. I have not done the registry edit yet, but closed opera9.exe at startup this morning. yet I just checked and the process opened again. I did not use opera at all today so this is strange.

Does opera actually send out a data request? I check my phone at least every hour and my data is off for a portion of the day. I never see it back on or idle.

I would imagine it's more accurate to see if opera uses your battery when it's idle/standby. Not when it's in use (texting, etc...). I'll give it it a try today since I'm at home all day (good area/idle phone). I get about 3.5-4hours per 10% with data off and a idle phone.

You guys and your numbers. You are probably fantasy sports fans too. I don't need to look at A-Rod's stats to determine if he is any good.....I just watch him choke every postseason and from that I determine he sucks and is overpaid.

I don't really care how Opera is draining my battery....nor do I care about the specific measurements of usage and consumption...all I care about is that when I kill the process, I gain about 3-4 hours of battery life.

I am a pragmatist. I don't have the time to waste crunching numbers on my phone/toy to ultimately prove what I already know from experience.

But by all means, those that want to or have the time, be our guests.

Spearoid, give us something to talk about then. We can talk about life experiences, work, kids, sport teams, favorite restaurants, ringer issues, oh crap not again!!!! I'm excited to talk about this battery thang, please for the love of god, not the ringer again!:)

by the way, great analysis on A Rod... he does suck when it counts! heck scratch the battery, lets talk some baseball.

I'm having a strange problem with the latest version of the ROM... I've installed it on two phones, and I'm getting the same problem on both of them. When I connect to my Gmail account to download messages, it'll download the headers and then just hang there forever. All of the messages will display 0/2 KB (or 3 KB, whatever size of the message) and never download. I've tried stopping it and send/receiving, soft resetting, deleting the account and re-creating it, everything with no luck.

Did I miss something very simple, or is there a bug?

Guess what I just had happen...remember the volume control issues during calls? It just hit me on my call with Directv, now I cant change the volume with the side buttons. Soft reset fixed it of course, but it's been so long it seems since that problem arose.

It's not that I don't believe you, but I do care about understanding why/how to some extent. Especially when so far only 2 people are making the claim based on experience that could be skewed by a dozen factors. Like I said, I'm giving it a try, leaving my phone idle and reporting back. I'm not crunching any numbers or spending any extra time. Thank god for those number crunchers though, or we wouldn't have regedits, tweaked roms, etc...

Oh and I like fantasy sports, but only because it's fun for friendly competitive pools. Stats aren't everything but they are something

See this is something I asked many pages back...because it confused me that a few of us would have this issue with opera9 draining, and not everyone using 4.8. I theorized then that some people may just not have it running on reset.

Its more than two people with this testimony...but I dont feel like going back and logging all the names.....the first guy I remember mentioning it was ehbob...I argued with him, insinuated insults towards him, then realized he was right....a few others chimed in during the posts....and then we have the most recent post with the giant heading of "improve battery life." That means I'd say we have at least 4 willing to testify to this battery life phenomenon.

I dont mind those that want to crunch the numbers......my comments were more towards the post a few pages back requesting stat analysis of battery usage, etc to prove this. I do have a measure of curiousity as to why the drain exists in such a small package....but the success of battery life increase is enough to satisfy my curiousity. Remember, various ways the user uses the phone doesnt apply to me.....I did it both ways for over a week each time.....I'd say things averaged out enough for me to safely conclude the 3-4 hour gain was no fluke.

I'd love to talk baseball but I have to wait a month or so to see if the Sox can stop sucking so bad and having their best players suspended!

A few more things. There are a bunch of posts in this thread of people asking why 4.8 seems to have such poor battery life......most responses suggest flashing to stock ROM, reflashing, all that jazz.....I am willing to bet a handful of those users were/are experiencing the exact same thing I was with opera9.

If anyone is like me, they find it very cumbersome to search through a thread that is 7000 pages deep with a million useful pieces of information scattered all throughout on every imaginable topic concerning our phones...so here is the link to where ehbob made the opera9 discovery.....and you can follow through it for a few pages and see the feedback regarding it.
