Several reasons. 1) IE is built in and impossible to remove from the rom, so it is there, while Opera 10 requires an extra install. 2) I've had several instances where Opera 10 wouldn't let me download or order somethings on some sites, while IE has worked well 3) IE's interface in regards to zooming and panning is better IMO than Opera's, 4) Opera has had some problems rendering some sites, say Google Mail that IE has no problem with. Don't get me wrong I am generally not an IE fan; I use Firefox on my desktop and laptop, but I gotta say that IE Mobile really is very good. Most of my family and friends have also made the switch although we were exclusively Opera 10 users up until the last year or so.

But like I said, my everyday browser is Opera Mini; just can't beat if for speed and it works well on 90% of the sites I hit regularly.

Of course all you'll need to jump on that is one of my 2018 roms since it will/should be cab installable.
There is some interesting reading about CHT over at XDA on the forthcoming v 2.0 release. First, and foremost, it looks to be in beta testing now, but I wouldn't expect a full release for a few weeks unless testing goes extremely well. V 2.0 also looks to be much more customizable and the first version to support 3rd party widgets and to more easily support skinning/theming. In terms of the customization, I'm wag'ing in terms of some things I've seen, but we may get individual quick link placement, like MaxSense, anywhere on the home tab. I'll be surprised, and disappointed, if we don't see an RSS widget to support the RSS capability in 2018. I also suspect will see an improved task capability. In short, looks like sometime in September will be a very good month for CHT users.

Finally, I will try to update the 2018 roms with the latest fixes/improvements just prior to the CHT v 2.0 release so everybody has the "latest & greatest". The only glitch may be the last few days of Sept. and the first few days of Oct. when I'll be mostly unavailable.

OAT

Thanks for the info on CHT. I am looking forward to trying it out.
I've been using your 2018 / 21914 Rom with CHT 1.85 and it is one of the best setups I have ever had on this phone. Thank you for the work you are doing.

I also found a lot of issues with opera 10 not downloading or clicking links. I set it to mimic Mozilla desktop browser and now I have no issues at all. I have a step by step to do this if anyone is interested.

Thanks for the kind words and glad it is working out for you. And yes, I would like to see what you do to Opera 10 to improve its behavior.

If anyone is interested, I removed htcscroll2.dll using HTCRIE and reflashed my phone using the 21895 LT ROM, and the D-Pad issue persists.

I also keep IE around on my desktop as well for the exact same reasons (I prefer to use the desktop version of Opera). I already figured about the reasons you stated for IE Mobile, but I was actually trying to ask why you were using Opera Mini vs Opera Mobile. Even tho they both use the Presto engine (I'm pretty sure that's right) I've found fewer rendering issues with Opera Mobile. www.dell.com was one off the top of my head, it would never zoom out for me on Mini, but is fine on Mobile. Speed-wise, I really can't tell the difference, plus I just like having to option to turn off Opera's proxy.

Anyway, I wasn't really questioning you, just curious if there was something I was missing between Mini and Mobile. Can't wait to try out your updated version! Keep up the good work!

Ohhh! Mini over Opera Mobile; now I understand the question. Simply, because of speed. Rendering for mini is done on Opera servers as opposed to locally on the device for Opera Mobile (and IE). Unless Opera servers are really being pounded, their servers are always faster than my device and they really compresses the data being sent. So time savings both on data transmission and image rendering is what makes Mini so much faster. But as you noted on the Dell site, their server-side rendering isn't always right.

I have been using this ROM for 2-3 days now and it has a lot of free memory and seems very stable overall.

I have had a couple of freezes due to the RSS program (this is a very long standing issue with the program) and a couple of freezes when adding to the contacts tab on Sense (this is new, I have not seen this before).

Thanks for the ROM

Guess I was confused by "using this ROM for 2-3 days" and "I have had a couple of freezes due to the RSS program (this is a very long standing issue with the program)". I've been using the RSS for over a week now with no freezes at all. How many channels are you subscribed to? Are you using internal storage or device storage for the channel data? What else do you have running? Might be related to your contact tab freezes too, which I haven't experienced either.
