Re: Asurion phone fraud, watch your accounts!

the same thing happened to me last year with two of my five lines. I even got a letter from Sprint telling me something about employees taking our personal information.

Re: Asurion phone fraud, watch your accounts!

someone charged 2000 dollars worth of $99.00 planetronics BT headsets to my account. since i don have a spending limit on the account, it was easy for someone to do this. my account was in good standing also so that helped the scammer.. . what happened was someone linked an old account to my main account then they were able to go in the old account, order the stuff and it would post to my account. it was pretty slick and definately an inside job as per the fraud dept. at Sprint PCS. they removed the account -- which made it easy for them to trace who did it --- and i setup some safeguards on my account so only *I* can make any changes..

Re: Asurion phone fraud, watch your accounts!

How can I set up safeguards so that only I can make any changes? How would that help against an inside job?

Re: Asurion phone fraud, watch your accounts!

Not sure about safe guards but there is one pointless purchase locking option via internet that the rep suggested.

I was like "so whenever i want to buy a phone, just lift it and buy em?, if that's the case, what makes you think the inside job person do the same?

I ended up getting the BS since I wasn't planning buying any phone anytime soon (thanks to craigslist).

Re: Asurion phone fraud, watch your accounts!

This happened to my friend. She was charged for 2phones that she didnt even purchase.

Also it's possible for a sprint retention (not sure bout cust. serv.) to change your billing address so they can send anything you order over the phone to that new billing address and then change it back after. This leads me to believe it might be an inside job. Obviously another way is if someone knew your pin code when you call. How else can anyone know that information. If it were purchased online then that might be a different story.
