Asurion raises deductible rates

Hey I'm not sure if this is already posted but I just received a notice in the mail that Asurion is raising the deductible rates for all HTC phones (UT STARCOM) and PALM phones from $50 to $100 starting April 19th.

Re: Asurion raises deductible rates

Surely they mean for new purchases, correct? They can't change the deductible on phones you have now: you're already in a contract with them. Isn't this illegal?

sprint is not changing the deductible, asurion is. furthermore, your contract states nothing about insurance. lastly, its a completely optional service, if you dont want it just drop it.

Re: Asurion raises deductible rates

Correct kellybrf;

This is not sprint, asurion is.

And if we don't like the change, we could cancel the service with asurion, but not sprint.

you can thank all the shady characters for the increase. some people would rather have a pretty phone that's gonna be in a case anyway than have a scuffed up phone that's gonna be in a case anyway!

Re: Asurion raises deductible rates

No, I mean, you have a contract with Asurion. You agreed to a plan for your phone. I don't think they can change the terms on it. I guess since you pay for it each month, they might have you (you basically renew your plan each month). But it still smells a little fishy...

There is no contract with Asurion. That's why you can cancel at anytime with no ETF. It's completely optional. They can do as they please with the rates really. Even if they raised the monthly premium from $7 to $10 the only thing you could do is cancel or pay the new rate.
