question about data plan between ppc and regular phone

I was wondering if anyone knows if there is a different data plan that sprint requires you to get for using data on a ppc, versus using data on like a standard flip phone. what i mean is like with alltel, I used to have a flip phone , many years ago, and when i switched to ppc they told me it was "a different kind of data" for the ppc's so i needed to change my plan. the reason i ask is i was wondering if someone cloned a esn from a flip phone with data plan, to a ppc, if the data would work , or if you would have to have sprint activate something else?
