Re: Bad news for Sprint...

Sprint may not stay afloat but they won't go totally under. If anything they'll be bought out, stripped down and the money making parts will be absorbed and/or bought by capital investment co's or other wireless carriers.

Keep in mind the FCC will only let one carrier (think VZW) get so big before they step in a regulate them out the yin/yang. Many of you peeps here aren't old enough to remember AT&T's divestiture back in the 80's.

Some things come full circle (AKA VZW buying Alltel, which was comprised of several GTE markets that were spun off/sold off/forced off with the BA/GTE merger) and history tends to repeat itself. Landlines and wirelines have their place in the world, but wireless is the here, now and immediate future.

Honestly, I have no love at all for Sprint. When I had their service it sucked and always had problems. Their customer service is only called so as they handle the "Customers" that call in/walk in and little else, lack of service more like it.

Bottom line is Sprint may change names, but they won't actually "go away" or "go under"

That is what Chapter 7/11 is all about. No reason to buy out a CDMA carrier.

AT&T is plenty big, in fact it is larger than Verizon in subscribers, so that argument is moot.

My point is/was that they won't just "go under" They wouldn't be the first communications company to operate in the red and look for a potential suitor.

And they got that way by??? Mergers, joint ventures, name changes and acquiring other companies + their subscribers, right? Moot, I think not.

Just like in all business, if you need something you either buy it or build it. Customer bases operate under the same premise. You can market to and bring customers or you can acquire them through other means. Same with physical network and capacity. You either build it out or buy it already built out.

Things do not look good for Sprint.

What kind of foolish company hands out plans that are 1/4 of the competition?
I dont care what anyone says .. Sprint has the best Unlimited plans.
ATT charges extra for internet with the unlimited plan.
Tmobile charges extra for internet and txt with unlimited plan
Verizon charges extra for both as well unless u get the 139.99 Unlimited!
Cricket has bad coverage and doesnt do internet.
So no one can beat $99 simply everything plan by sprint.. Unless im tripping.. so in all they actually have the best plan anyone should be on.!

Re: Bad news for Sprint...

I agree that Sprint has consistently had the best plans but that doesn't fix anything... They are still hurting really bad and their future is uncertain.
" If anything they'll be bought out, stripped down " - that would really end all the great plans that we know and love...

As for previous comments on "having no love for Sprint": there are probably those who are actually rootin' for Sprint to go under but I would venture to say that the majority of PPCgeeks Sprint users are praying that somehow they survive.

Re: Bad news for Sprint...

In no way, shape or form wish for Sprint to go under and the point is they won't completely go under.

Their business model has suffered due to bad decisions and bad customer service. They put nextel in a tail spin after acquiring them a few years back.

You say they won't completely go under but your scenario in your previous post is basically the same thing. The name may still exist but having all the parts sold off probably means the end of our current plans.

My guess is that we'd have an "opportunity" either get out from our plan with no penalty or re-up at "new" rates.

All speculation at this point, but I'm really praying that somehow they pull a rabbit out of the hat and survive.

Re: Bad news for Sprint...

The point I am trying to make here is it's not like a switch will be thrown, the lights will go out and none of the Sprint phones will work. It's not quite like that, they will in one form or another continue to do business.

The only point here is there will always (and I mean ALWAYS) be at least two (2) wireless companies in each and every major market. The US DOJ and FCC will make sure of that and the competitive forces that drive business will also assure that happens.

There are already the big two (AT&T and VZN)... not quite sure what point your are making in reference to Sprint?
