new phones for Sprint coming?

I have about a ten day window of time coming up at the end of March where I will be able to upgrade before the new policy takes effect with sprint's premiere status. Unfortunately though, they haven't come out with anything new lately except for slower versions of year old phones. I have a tp2 now, and I'm not sold out to WM, it's been good and there are things I like about it but I think I would prefer the app store that android offers at this point. I'm not a programmer and wouldn't be writing my own stuff or flashing roms or anything like that. I am afraid that if I get a year old phone like the evo that a few months later they will finally come out with some dual core processor phones or something like that and I really would prefer to wait for something like that. Does anyone know if they plan to come out with anything like that any time soon? Maybe I should just keep using the tp2 and wait till next year to see what has come out by then, or just go to private party phone buying. Also, forgive my noob question, but what does froyo mean, and what is a clean ESN? Is that a way of checking an ID # on a phone to make sure it's not been reported stolen or something?

Most likely in June...definitely not within 10 days...Thing is though at this point none of the dual cores will be able to use both cores anyways as they need Honeycomb..unless you plan to flash custom roms...

You can always go with an Epic, single core for single core performance the Epic is on par (If you plan to switch within 10 days)..Evo aka Super Sonic is a 2 year old phone actually..it got delayed due to issues with wimax..

Nvidia is promising Quad-Core phones in late 2011/early 2012 :P lol

Google uses code names to name their versions..

1.5 = Cupcake
1.6 = Donut
2.0/2.1 = Eclair
2.2 = Froyo
2.3 = Gingerbread

3.0 = Honeycomb (Tablets only for now but should merge back with cellphone branch)
2.4 = Ice cream (Honeycomb/Gingerbread hybrid)

When a device is stolen or associated with an account thats in deficient funds, it gets blacklisted in Sprint's system..Clean ESN means that its not blacklisted.

Re: new phones for Sprint coming?

The only upcoming device that has been announced for Sprint is the Kyocera Echo, which I recommend against getting. The dual screens are a nice gimmick, but launching a 3G device with no FFC, yet still touting it to be a "high end smartphone" just doesn't do it for me.

Thanks for the input, yeah I don't know enough about the operating systems to know that stuff about how a dual core phone would even work with them... So is there anything about the version that the epic is running that is inferior to the evo on froyo? When you say evo aka supersonic, was that an original code name for that phone or something?

If they do come out with some smokin new phones, is it still anybody's guess as to what platform they would use? Like these nvidia phones, most likely android honeycomb?

Another thing I have been wondering is what the real difference is between CDMA and GSM carriers, I know sprint and verizon are CDMA and ATT is GSM for example, but not sure what that means when it comes to devices and what they can do. I thought the biggest difference was that GSM was more of a globally used format so you could travel without complications and something about how it works allows you to do that talk while browsing (which I wouldn't care about at all). Is there something more to it that would make one that much better than another?

Re: new phones for Sprint coming?

FFC = Forward Facing Camera, a feature only now becoming more popular since Video Chat is finally usable(and the deployment of 4G,LTE, and HSPA+....

Dual Core phones will use 1 core to run a certain set of functions, and the other to run another set... this cuts down on alot of things, in addition to making actions happen faster on the device..

Honeycomb will never be on a handset, or so they say... its Tablet only... Gingerbread is what everyones hoping for now... after that will come Ice Cream which is a combination of HoneyComb and Gingerbread(as stated above).... this is suppose to be the last year that Google will do more than 1 OS upgrade in a year... Google realizes they need to slow down a little bit so DEVS can keep up with everything... atleast thats what Goggle said @ I/O conference last year..

GSM is what like 70% of the world uses... its just different frequencies and a little bit different technology... allows for things like data/talk at same time... GSM uses SIM cards, whereas typically CDMA does not(only in world phones usually)... GSM also makes handset selection far greater.. as most Eurpoean and Asian GSM devices will work on like AT&T GSM Bands for example..

and Yes, Supersonic was/is the EVO's real name... ie just like Rhodium is the TP2 series, Rapheal is the TP1 series
hope that helps some

Epic will be running official 2.2 aka Froyo tomorrow on the 21st.

aside from what boredandtatood said, CDMA is also more secure..at least in the US..

I would say no to the echo for the simple fact that it isn't 4g. Nothing to do with the ffc or lack of. I've had my evo for 3 months now and only played with the ffc once or twice. It's still really new and apps are under developed. Another problem is running across someone else who has one. I would poke around and see if u would be able to get anyone to trade u a evo for a shift. Then use your upgrade for a shift. Unless they raised the price back up it was 100 dollars last I looked at it. Android is better than Windows. I spent many years with Windows and since I have had my evo I love Android.
