Re: The death of Wimax 4G

So, will LTE work, or can it be made to work with EVO technology?

So I guess this means Sprint will likely eventually move to LTE? I wonder when a change like that would take place.

Re: The death of Wimax 4G

I read the infoworld article last night, just crap, funny how some websites / hating bloggers like to get their licks in...

Article should have stated Sprint plans to replace the 3 empty seats with other representatives they are choosing soon.

While clear does need more capital to expand, I hope Sprint makes the right decisions since they have the upper hand at the moment.

As far as what will happen to wimax in the US (worldwide is already everywhere wimax.org), it might end up as people have stated, "wisp" level / type of service - but then you have wimax 2, which was showcased in japan by Samsung, which beat lte & tmo speeds.

All I know is wimax is cheaper to build and clear / sprint / Nextel have more spectrum than at&t / VZW, so the outcome overall should be interesting to say the least...

P.s. wimax is also being offered currently via Comcast in some states, and time warner (either now or soon to follow).
This post has been thanked 1 times.

Sprint has stated in other articles if it chooses to go lte, it would embed a chip that can do both type of services / technology *in future phones*, but lte will also have its bumps when it comes to voice calls, from what I read on another article.

Lte only has one country running, so not much is really known about it except for speed tests they have been runnin and VZW is not releasing any handsets until next 1q-2q of 2011.

Re: The death of Wimax 4G

Wimax is 100% not dead and they still own the shares of the company...they just dismissed themselves from the board....its actually a common tactic to bring in other people to the board to make use of their connections and etc. As long as sprint owns over 50% of the company they can get in the board any time they please.

That said I personally think Sprint is out to make themselves go bankrupt and run their partners bankrupt....They made 2 major flaws...

1) Going into wimax with the EVO is fail....and I'm not talking about the device themselves..I'm talking about not thinking it through..instead of going in with 1 device from 1 company they should have pushed Samsung, HTC and LG to give them 3 4g devices. This way you are not bound by 1 manufacturer having supply issues...Sprint seems to forget that you don't make money on selling phones..you make money on selling contracts..

2) Sprint is totally failing at making use of their partners...for example...if they were to use Comcast, Roadrunner and Intel to distribute cable boxes that acted as wimax airwaves they could have had the entire US lit up in wimax pretty darn fast and make money on it. They could have also offer quadruple play packages of cellphone + tv + internet + phone....and they could have had those boxes wired with Google TV included >.>...

but instead they are spending time reinventing the Moment 3x in a year, releasing 1 wimax phone on short supply for 3 month...I mean if you look at it its like they are trying to run themselves out of business...
