precisely. i think they want other companies like tmo to come on board, but how open would tmo be to investing millions, or possibly billions to a company with 3 sprint execs on the board. i think its a smart business move on sprints part. here is a local article from sprints hometown regarding this...
Sprint Nextel CEO, execs resign from Clearwire board - Kansas City Business Journal

This way you are not bound by 1 manufacturer having supply issues...Sprint seems to forget that you don't make money on selling phones..you make money on selling contracts..

2) Sprint is totally failing at making use of their partners...for example...if they were to use Comcast, Roadrunner and Intel to distribute cable boxes that acted as wimax airwaves they could have had the entire US lit up in wimax pretty darn fast and make money on it. They could have also offer quadruple play packages of cellphone + tv + internet + phone....and they could have had those boxes wired with Google TV included >.>...

but instead they are spending time reinventing the Moment 3x in a year, releasing 1 wimax phone on short supply for 3 month...I mean if you look at it its like they are trying to run themselves out of business...
I wouldn't disagree that they have made strategic mistakes & look like the bumbling step child in some lights.

However, the fact of the matter is they offered a highly desirable product & more players in the field is better than just 2 (VZW/ATT).
If HTC had offered the EVO to VZW or ATT, do we seriously think they wouldn't have screw it up either?

ATT has too big of a monkee to carry with iPhone.
VZW is too restrictive with their network & no working 4G.

SPCS stepped up & became innovators but it's clear that 4G isn't for prime time in some places & that consumers aren't demanding faster mobile broadband either (as seen by the $10 issue).
But there are choices. Some people act like they don't have choices.

How they choose to spend money is their own prerogative.
Why would you buy a 4G phone when you don't have 4G & then go complain?
Who's the idiot?

Its simple as this..going in with an EVO alone was fail...its not about the device..its about availability..they FAILED at it..they tried to go for the iPhone thing rather then doing whats best for their business..which would have been to release 2-3 wimax devices at the same time...you cant risk your ENTIRE business on 1 manufacture who has supply issues..not gonna work...

I dunno, up to now, the lack of availability has not hurt the want factor of the EVO. What comes in to the stores & retailers, go right back out to the consumer.

I don't see that as 'fail' in many sense & justifies Sprint's decision.
Whether it satisfies consumer wants...that's their own personal complex.

Your missing the point...who care about the want factor...we have to remember sprint is NOT here to sell handsets..they are here to sell contracts...By not having EVOs in stock they've literally lost millions of dollars..not only that they also lost a lot of the 4g advantage they had on the other carriers. Aka from a business perspective its a complete failure.
