That's probably true. The data plans on 3g will probably go to tiered plans so as to force people who want unlimited to get 4g and pay the premium charge. That shouldn't be too bad I guess. It will just suck if they made 4g a tiered service.

I wouldnt be surprised, once on carrier does something others start to follow. I only use just under 2 gigs of data a month so i could go to att and be fine, but i like not having to worry about it. Some people have bragged about using up to 6 gigs a month which is kinda outrageous. I pay an extra $10 a month as do many of the rest of us to keep unlimited data available, so for them to threaten it is kinda annoying as well. Hopefully, like att, those of us who already have unlimited would be grandfathered in, if this happened.

6 gigs? That's nothing according to this guy.

I just checked this month data usage, it is already over 19.3GB with 19 days left in the billing cycle. I am truly shocked by the number. between my computer and iPad, I surf net, check email, etc. for 2-3 hours each day. occasionally watch a few youtube videos (10-30 minutes on average). Never download large movie files etc. the largest file I downloaded for last month was a TP2 rom. How come the number stacks up so fast?

Now I am worried Sprint might argue that I have used too much data, questioning if I am tethering, and send me a large bill.

Am I paranoid? How do I defend my self IF Sprint does something?

Or this guy.

Yup it was 82gig, not 8.2gig. I just moved into a new house and can't afford cable yet, so I have been downloading movies and tv shows like mad.

I generally use my tether for just browsing, but as of late been downloading shit like crazy. Including updates for my PC and some PC games as well.

If you want I can get a picture of it, just seems silly to me (as internet usage seems like a really goofy thing to brag about, lol).

Maybe we should just report these two dudes to Dan Hesse's office. I'd figure i'd reduce network-wide usage by at least 15%!
LOL!

There's really no reason for anyone using that much data, WiFi isn't a secret and if you know anything about your phone and wireless networks........this isn't rocket science!

I never stream but I have talked to Brits that use this for their entire household. It is like my 802.11n Wifi!!! Folks. this is a phone, not a modem. Only so many can ride the bus at once. Don't screw it up for the rest.

It's people like you that ruin it for everyone else. If getting a smartphone prevents you from getting internet at home then you should change your priorities. It's not a necessity to have a smartphone. If you can't afford both then be smart. Sprint has a right to cut you off if they think your abusing their service and I think going over 8gb on a phone is abusing. Your one example of why att switched their data plans. Cmon dude. Have common sense. 12gb on a cell phone? I don't blame sprint one bit for switching to tiered data.

No its people like you who are the problem. Do you have stock in Sprint or something?

Sprint sold a service as UNLIMITED! So that means it can be 20gig maybe 50gig. Whats it to you?

Hey maybe you like to be sold something and then have it change at a later date but not me. WTF is wrong with people these days!!

WE ARE THE CONSUMER!! If Sprint can't handle UNLIMTED data then don't freaking sell it as that! Their network and keeping it maintained whatever to handle data isn't my responsibility.

Its consumers like you who put up with this corporate bullshit is the exact reason why US consumers are always getting screwed!

So yeah selling UNLIMITED and then later deciding to change it is OUR FREAKING fault!

I consider 4g data in a different realm with different restrictions from 3g. I see all the "I pay $ for unlimited, they said we could blah blah" chatter, but seriously...if they intended for this usage to be accepted would we have been warned!?!? If they continue to see more outrageous data totals by more and more users we will get capped. Says THE MAN. They will lose subscribers and they know they will, they will lose the abusers. There is NO argument that will save us. So to all the abusers, just continue on doing what you do best and don't say a word when they implement caps, just leave Sprint. When I say abusers, you guys know the few % of all users I am referring to. No need argue as the warning from them was clear. I will say I use my 3g at will and need, but haven't topped 12gb but once and this is my only internet source.

So people who bought a service as UNLIMITED and they actually use it as that are 'abusers'?

Interesting!!

Re: Sprint CEO hints unlimited data could end if usage gets crazy

I think it is really a double edged sword here with Sprint.

Point one:
I think what some people are getting at here is that let's say you go to an "all you can eat" buffet and you sit down to eat. The restaurant is assuming that the average person will eat 2-3 plates of food. Then an unaverage person walks in and eats 25 plates of food. Now the people who wanted a plate or two can't get it because there is none left because the hog before them took it all. Now think of it in terms of bandwith.

Point two:
Sprint clearly advertised the Evo as able to be the sole internet "Hotspot" for any wireless device in your house which wants to use internet. Granted you pay a hefty 30.00/month for this service but then what? Is Sprint saying that the plan, plus the 10.00 surcharge, plus the 30.00 add on is not enough for them? For those on the Simply Everything Plan that is $139.00 before taxes.

Point three:
Yes, Sprint is the first to offer 4G. I, like many other do no live in a 4G area for me, paying 10.00 per month gets me nothing extra than what I had with my TP2 but we will not get into that topic here. If Sprint wants to charge more for their "premium data" with our Evo's and Epic's then we should automatically have NO cap if they decided to invoke a data cap.

Point four:
A business is a business and people always need to remember that their ultimate goal is so make money and not to make you happy. If Sprint wants to roll the dice and start sticking it to all of their customers with more and more fees or caps, then they relinquish anything that made them "special" or "better" than their competitors making it more enticing for customers to switch to other carriers. Let's remember that before the Evo came out, Sprint's big hype phones were the Touch Pro II and the Palm Pre. Not too exciting when other carriers were miles ahead. I think they have gotten a little too head strong since releasing the Evo.
