Re: Sprint CEO hints unlimited data could end if usage gets crazy

This sucks, once CM6 got 4G I was gonna tethering my PS3 for game play. If that worked and I didnt get lag I would have gotten rid of my internet lol. 3G is laggy when I tether to my PS3 for online play and honestly I dont expect it to not lag even with 4G. Me and my wife can both tether now so really we dont need home internet. However, like I said I expect even on 4G ill get lag.

Currently I am using 1.5-2GB's a month with the phone. Not sure how much data I use with my home internet. I dont download movies or songs so its really just, internet gaming and forum surfing.

You may have to wait till CM6.1 for the 4G

I can totally see that. Of course I abuse my cable line with all my movie, discographies, game isos etc but i would never do that with a phone. The usage you described is very reasonable. Its all the other jacka$$es.

"Jacka$s's" You guys need to relax. Sprint told everyone to go ahead 4G is unlimited. As far as I am concerned if people are dl'ing 90gigs, who cares Sprint said it was cool. If anyone should be mad at anyone it should be us at Sprint because Sprints going to go back on there word.

The Evo gave Sprint and ego! Suddenly they wanna charge an extra $10, and now we lost discounts for extra lines and such. Next they want to cap us on data usage. I am well aware Sprint is a great deal for a great service compared to other companies. I am not trying to start that argument or start the $10 argument, I am simply stating facts. Yeah, yeah Sprint needs to make money, lol they are making tones of money off of us.

Wow - they charge for premium data, then want to cap it. I know they are a business, but this blows.

Not everyone is in a luxurious position to be able to get standard home internet service (i.e. FiOS, Comcast, Cox, etc.). On my old TP2, I averaged 11-12GB per month and that was with VERY MINDFUL monitoring of my data usage. All you need to do is look at a few YouTube videos and download a few songs and a movie or two plus stream a few tv shows online, and before you know it, you've exceeded 10gigs a month. A lot of these people posting outrageous number, of course, are idiots who are taking advantage and doing things like downloading dozens upon dozens of movies, tv shows, entire cds, torrents, and whatever else. Those few a**holes are going to screw things over for everyone else. Before the EVO even came out, I knew this was going to happen... I was just wondering how soon.

It's people like you that ruin it for everyone else. If getting a smartphone prevents you from getting internet at home then you should change your priorities. It's not a necessity to have a smartphone. If you can't afford both then be smart. Sprint has a right to cut you off if they think your abusing their service and I think going over 8gb on a phone is abusing. Your one example of why att switched their data plans. Cmon dude. Have common sense. 12gb on a cell phone? I don't blame sprint one bit for switching to tiered data.

To call you a 'dumbass' might actually be the compliment of your life. Please quote where I mentioned ANYTHING about me not being able to afford home internet? I had the EVO the day it came out. I'm quite sure you didn't and were still using an ancient Palm Pre up until a few weeks ago. The fact that you're so narrow-minded that you automatically assume that the only people using their phones as modems are people who can't afford it, goes to show how ignorant you are. I could lambaste you even further, but I think I've already wasted enough keystrokes on you and I think you've already done enough of a good job making an azz out of yourself. "If I only had a brain"... words for you to live by.

Well the only good part is that if it does happen there will be no termination fee since we all signed up for "unlimited for $10"

epphllps 09-23-2010 12:45 AM

All I know is Dan Hesse said caps could happen and there is no defense for racking up 50gb+ of "3g" data that will even remotely make that ok with Sprint. I consider 4g data in a different realm with different restrictions from 3g. I see all the "I pay $ for unlimited, they said we could blah blah" chatter, but seriously...if they intended for this usage to be accepted would we have been warned!?!? If they continue to see more outrageous data totals by more and more users we will get capped. Says THE MAN. They will lose subscribers and they know they will, they will lose the abusers. There is NO argument that will save us. So to all the abusers, just continue on doing what you do best and don't say a word when they implement caps, just leave Sprint. When I say abusers, you guys know the few % of all users I am referring to. No need argue as the warning from them was clear. I will say I use my 3g at will and need, but haven't topped 12gb but once and this is my only internet source.
