I was told and the official press release states that there will be no purchase and monthly charge

And BTW, I got credited for the unit (100) and the monthly charge which is $5.
Tell them you have no.reception and it is their job to ensure full service. I personally got into the 10 charge for 4g and said why should I pay a premium if I'm not getting the basics. Then I said bill cancel. Got a airave shipped to me that week. Remember the airave is for those of us that get shitty service. Why should we pay for horrible service? It's not your fault there is no coverage. Sent from my fast as hell phone that you can only wish you had |
Re: How to get Airave2 now with 3g
and after playing phone tag.. finally got someone on the phone who knew what I was talking about... and I was promptly told that I would have to pay $100 for the new unit as they would not be able to swap my old unit for the new one. so hmm. not a big deal per say but annoying nonetheless..
I'll stick with the old one and wifi. not paying again... |

Re: How to get Airave2 now with 3g
yeah typically you need not be a ASL customer, been with them for at least 6 months and in good standing. being a "premier" customer helps also..
if you have those handled then you meet the "criteria"... its an uphill battle sometimes, you just have to spekw with authority to them and explain your situation. i do admit since you have been paying that does not work in your favor however just tell them that your broadband connection monthly price went up and its hard for you to justify the price. let them know you need 3G in your home because you want to watch sprint tv and it only works on 3G. you down graded your cable TV due to the economy and now want to rely on watching some sprint tV that is included in your plan. if you have a4G phone (!!!) you are also paying for 4G thats no where near your house and you are unable to use the evo in its intended use. just be adamant but polite. dont call as if you are afraid. you can cal their bluff just be kind but state your point. if you have more than one line do know sprint now is dropping discounts on lines 3 and above. so if your in this boat you can also speak about that extra cost. and at the very end.. tell them you are now considering canceling. you can not believe that sprint CS is not willing to help you save money and be a happy customer... |

Re: How to get Airave2 now with 3g
Just spent Over an hour on the phone with SPRINT. I have 1x Roaming signal at my House. The REp sent a request and said I didn't qualify for an air rave. I told Him I'd cancel so he sent me to Account Services. She said I'd have to go buy one at a Sprint store and Pay $100 and $5/month.
I said a friend got it for free. She said they ended a Promo giving the Airave for Free, and that you had to have 3 lines or more to qualify. I said Well I guess I'll have to switch to AT&T. She called my Bluff and said I'm sorry you feel that way but I can't help you! |

Re: How to get Airave2 now with 3g
The way OP made it sound, the only way to get an Airave2 was to already have had an Airave. Mine came in the mail today. When I saw Airvana on the box, I nearly shat myself. I just managed to get a gps lock by relocating the gps antenna underneath the bottom sill of my front door. Now if the damn mobile light would stop blinking and initialize already, I'd be set. How long is the mobile light supposed to flash?

Re: How to get Airave2 now with 3g
Well I just got my Evo a few days ago...took it home....and my signal sucked....per being connected to my Airave. Called up Sprint..got transfered to the Airave department and found out there is a connection bug with the Evo and the Airave. The rep transfered me to retention and without any hesitation or rebuddle...I will have the new Airvana (3G) sometime next week. I was told the retention department is the only department right now that has the device. You will not be able to go into a store and purchase one as of yet, probably early 2011 or later this year. Basically you have to return your old Airave and activate your new one when you recieve it. I'm hoping this fixes the connection issues with the Evo. I guess it's something to do with HTC's software on the phone.

Re: How to get Airave2 now with 3g
im confused as to what some of you are saying.. the airvana model has been out for about a month now and it does support voice data and VoIP. i too have the newer airvana model and the older first gen samsung model. i get to keep my old model as well.

And now after calling Airave support about the text message problem (again) I spoke to a supervisor who said this is also a known issue with this model, they offered to put me back on my original one. Going to wait and see if it keeps happening. |
It's not voip but the new airvana model does support both data and voice. They said I have to send back the old one (on them if course). No biggie, not going to do anything with it anyway.
Just got mine too but yet to connect it yet Sent from my fast as hell phone that you can only wish you had |
Re: How to get Airave2 now with 3g
the new airvana will support Sprints VoIP service once its released. its built in.
all calls that go thru the airvana AND the airave are in essence voip calls as they have to be coded into data and sent over a broadband connection. :) |

Re: How to get Airave2 now with 3g
i get intermittent 3g, had 4g for a nano of a second.
last year, i had sprint mobile broadband and the signal was so bad, sprint let me cancel the contract without penalty. as much as i want to dump my isp, i may still need it for the airvana. my airave is connected to my home network. without it, even with my evo, i'm lucky to get 2 bars of signal. |
Re: How to get Airave2 now with 3g
question for those of you who have received airvanas? do u also have evos? because now retention and airave tech support is telling me i don't need the airvana.
i want to clarify your current internet and cell phone issues. |
Re: How to get Airave2 now with 3g
Just got mine hooked up and working. I now Have Full signal EVDO in and around my house!
Where as before I had 1x/Roaming in the house, and intermittent EVDO/1x outside the house. I don't see how you can tell whether you're using the Airave, other than the better signal. There is no beep when making a call as I read there was with the Original Airave. I don't have an EVO, but does it matter what phone you have? The Airave just acts as a mini cell tower using your Home Broadband connection. This is independant of the type of phone your using. Unless they were telling you the EVO has a Super Radio in it that should get great service where you live, therefore you didn't need an Airave? |

the airave tech support guy said the new unit would only benefit you if you didn't have a cell phone with wifi capability. i told him what i had read on this website and disagreed. its a long story. i was promsed one this morning. i call this afternoon to see if there is a tracking number yet. the csr i got told me i would have to pay one hundred dollars for the unit. not what i was told this morning i responded. so she transferred me to tech support and i went round and round with this guy. so he called a retention supervisor who told him i was getting a free unit and the order was being processed. hence, why i asked the above question. |

The Airave also boosts your 1x signal used for making phone calls. I have no problems now. Before I couldn't even call *2 for customer service because it said I was roaming on U.S. Cellular. This new unit has Sprint VOIP capability. I guess you can plug an external phone into it to make calls? Still researching this and haven't found much. I'm guessing it's an extra service you have to pay for. Anyone Familiar with this?? |
Re: How to get Airave2 now with 3g
the new airvana does make the two tone "beep"sound when you make a call. it did on the original airave and it does on the airvana.
having wifi will not work if you want to use sprint TV or sprint nfl (whatever its called). those reps are probably getting bombarded with calls and their managers are telling them to be more firm and strict with whom they issue these out to... |
Re: How to get Airave2 now with 3g
Just an FYI and to answer the previous poster. When you get the "retentions" Airave, all you will get is better signal strength in your home. All other functions of the Airave (VOIP, answering maching, call forwarding etc) are disabled. They mearly are trying to improve your call quality so that you will stay with them. I got mine for free and all other functions are not working even if I plug a phone into the Airave. I do get full signal in my home now so this is what I was trying to accomplish so it does what it needs to for me.
Edit : Also, when you do call, request the you be transfered to the retentions department because if they do not offer a solution to your signal that you will cancel your service. Worked for me. |

i think i red that sprint voip is forthcoming. let me ask this.........the aivana should provide a more stable 3g signal in my home beside improve the strength of my phone calls? my current airave does a fantastic job of improving my voice signal. |
