Have you tried barnacle wifi tether? I used it alot with FRX06 and it worked great, although when I tried it with FRX07 it seemed like it kept running even after disconnect, did you point out in one of your posts that it tends to do that with FRX07?

Most hotspots don't throw up a 'true' AP. They use what's called an adhoc network, which your fantastic paperweight can't handle. It needs a true AP, which the native Android tethering app does.

Sprint has never said anything about my tethering. YMMV.

Sorry, missed this post at first.

Barnacle is similar to all the others - it uses adhoc networks instead of using a true AP. The built-in tether feature is the only one (that I know of) that throws up an actual AP.

Why didn't you use XDAndroid's wifi tethering app? It worked great, but again... it used an adhoc network, which most laptops can handle - but Android devices cannot connect to adhoc networks, and the TouchPad is in the same boat AFAIK.

Has the battery life problems been addressed in the latest build? I have FRX06 and was planning to upgrade to FRX07. I've only been able to get 3-5 hrs use.

Android will inherently use more battery than WinMo, all else equal.

3-5hrs is not unheard of if you're a 'heavy' user. These types of users can't make it thru a full day on a native Android device, so you'll have no hope on a ported one. As for "light" usage, which is what I would classify my usage as - I can easily go 12+ hours. It all depends on your usage...

Also, widgets & apps that autoupdate are going to kill your battery. The more frequently they update, the quicker it will kill your batt. Keep these to a minimum. My Speed Improvements thread has some tips that will help save battery life too - focus on the DroidWall and memory management sections.

I don't know really why I didn't try the XDA wifi app other than at the time so much stuff was still broken in the build(frx06) that I felt barnacle would automatically set up my configuration. I know my Archos 10.1 did connect but I cannot remember weither it would fail after awhile or not. Keep in mind up until a year ago I knew nothing about android so I was a little gun shy.

Upgraded from 7 to 7.1 and can't receive incoming calls. Went back to 7 and it works again.
Any ideas? Same settings and startup file.

Thanks arrghhh. I just realized, I had FRX07 and not 06. I'm by no means a heavy user. I imagine there are apps that continue to run even though I've closed the window; not to used to how the apps works or close yet. I did have the setting to not update automatically, but still saw a drain. I'll take a look at your speed improvements. I can only hope to get at least 8-10hrs.

The best solution I've found is buy a charger off eBay that has a USB port and has a built-in dock for a battery then swap batteries while plugged into the USB. Android will stay on for a few seconds with the battery out (doesn't work in winmo which I find interesting...arrghhh, teradog, ACL any thoughts?), this seems to me to be the only option for heavy users.
