I can zip up what I'm using but the only thing that works is the phone itself...no data be it WiFi or EvDo...

BTW, it's insane how much nicer Sense is on Android compared to M2.5 on WinMo.

Files for working Sense...but not working data http://hotfile.com/dl/36620611/07a53...Sense.zip.html

Considering it's really not SenseUI, but just a rebranded and tweaked TouchFlo3D. Seems like HTC wants to unify everything under one name even tho they have almost nothing in common between both platforms.

Re: Sense working?

Thanks for the ZIP. Got some progress. Few notes for anyone who will try this

- On initial boot, the setup will give you an option to Wait or to Force Close. Do the Wait, and continue the setup. Only then you will get into Sense.
- Do not get impatient and think "OMG it's not going to come up". It will, have patience.
- Data/WiFi does not seem to work.
- After initial setup, Sense will try to load and to FC. Select to Wait. It will continue to show "Loading" for some time, but will get into Sense after that.
- (on my phone, at least) moving to the right = instant FC. Sense will reload. That's Favorites tab. So far main tab, Mail, Text and Weather tabs work, but there's nothing there, due to no data service.

So far my initial observations after playing with the thing for about 20 minutes.

I haven't gotten any FCs but the slowness and patience are the same as my experience :dontknow:

Re: Sense working?

First things first. Take out your sim card and see if this helps if you have a cdma rhod. Also the wifi issue is being worked on by multiple parties. The bcm chip itself does come up and you can bring up the eth0 via command line if you want to test with a home wifi ap.

I need to double check with MrPippy but i don't think anyone made a libhardware_legacy.so file for the eclairhero builds. I believe thats whats missing from this to get wifi working for the rhod eclairhero.

Re: Sense working?

These are the steps that I took to get it working.

1. Go to the first post of the thread over at XDA (I don't remember the link.)

2. Download The package that says Sense Sized(dated for march), the system.sqsh that says it is the force close fix(date 04/02 i believe), and the system.sqsh that allows 3G(dated 04/05 i believe)

3. Now use Winrar or (i think) 7zip to open the build package.

4. DELETE ALL ANDROID FILES FROM YOUR SD CARD except your startup.txt

5. Unzip the new files to the ROOT of your SD card

6. Replace the system.sqsh that is now on your SD card with the one that fixes force closes

7. Run haret.exe

8. Go through the setup COMPLETELY

9. Pull battery and reboot to WM

10. Replace system.sqsh on SD card with the one that fixes 3G

11. Run haret.exe and make sure it boots

For Sprint Users

12. Pull battery and reboot to WM

13. Replace the rootfs with one that you know will allow 3G for Sprint's CDMA network

14. Run haret.exe

15. Go to settings and find Wireless networks

16. Somewhere there will be an option tp add an APN

17. Once you get there click it, press the windows key, press add APN

18. Change the name to Sprint and the APN to internet.com

19. Save

20. Find the the option that says connect to network (or something like that) and make sure it is checked.

You should now have 3G access on the Sprint network on the Andoid OS w/Sense on your TP2!!!

I posted a few posts back on how to get it up and running. If you are CDMA but not Sprint the only thing you should do different from my instructions is enter something different for the APN. If you are GSM then You can keep the rootfs that is already in the package and just setup your APN. Trust me it works. Yes I know that there are several providers that "Don't need an APN to work in the US" The thing about that is you aren't editing any values if you have one of those providers and the build doesn't know that you are in the US. When you do the intial setup try to find English (United States). It isn't there, atleast I didn't see it. You can find the APN for your carrier with a quick google search.

Wanna help test other features out? I spoke to klinux today and we are hoping to get more involved in this project. Xda has a larger audience, but Rhod is way behind needs more exposure.

I just tried it out and voice and data work well for me as long as I reboot to flight mode first in winmo, then take it out once in android. Some of the apps/widgets are buggy and crash and some things are slow initially loading, but it's looking good so far.

Well i have gotten it working, I used a mix of jadoe05's instructions but went straight to the latest sqsh file from first boot, after a very long first boot i pulled the battery and replaced the rootfs file with the one from the other thread

Things appear to be working albeit a bit slow..
I'll keep ya posted

It's good that you got it working. To piggyback on this, The long drawn out method (seems) to no longer be necessary. Now all you should have to do is download the complete package and replace that system.sqsh with the one from 4/7 in the first post of that thread (I believe it is named system0704.sqsh, rename it to just system.sqsh). After that boot up Android and make sure you get into the actual OS (you can see the sense clock) then pull battery, reboot into WM replace rootfs with one that is known to work for CDMA (obviously only if you have a CDMA capable phone Sprint, Verizon. etc.) then reboot. I don't know if the APN config is still necessary as I didn't do a fresh install with this new system.sqsh.

The improvements I have noticed are that you can download and install apps from the market(but you can't search yet) I would just suggest using SlideMe as your market app. And you can install any apk now

Also WIFI seems to be working. I can't confirm because I don't use it.

There is a speed improvement, though on first boot and maybe just everytime you boot the phone response is slow for a minute or two.

Hope this info helps someone.

I can confirm that APN config is NOT necessary , but in my experience the Sense (much like when I tried the HERO in the flesh) was just toooooo slooowwww

I've gone back to the 4/8 Eclair build for now -the speed in that thing has me spoiled.

Thanks for the confirmation!!!

Just curious, when you installed this build did you do a fresh install or did you do overwrites?

Re: Sense working?

Slight update.

Even if you use SlideMe for your market searching, it will still reboot Android (not boot back to WM, you will just be taken back to the HERO screen), that being said I still recommend it over the regular market :-)

That being said it definitely isn't a program issue Klinux said in the other thread that he is already aware of and working on it.

Also I have experienced problems with Android going into a SOD, my (temporary) work around is turning off the backlight options in WM before boot. My buttons stay lit now, but I have no problem waking my device.

I'll be uploading a copy of my sd card soon.

It's a little bit more friendly towards cdma rhodiums (specially sprint) and i want to make its the base version we test on since the original was mostly for gsm. I'm still communicating with Klinux to share all improvements.

You can use the instructions posted to get cdma data. Thats whats always worked for me even with non sense ui builds.

EvanTribley 04-09-2010 11:11 AM

Re: Sense working?

EDIT: This was a fresh installation, I cleared Android off my phone completely except my startup.txt. Thanks for original instructions Jade, I would have had no idea on where to start otherwise.

Actually, last night I streamlined the steps further and it is working. Just keep in mind the long first boot. Instructions for CDMA.

Just do all the file replacing before the first boot. Update to the most recent system.sqsh and replace rootfs with a working CDMA version.

I had CDMA data working immediately and everything that is known to work seemed to be doing fine. I don't think there is a need to wait on replacing the rootfs.

There were some changes to the prop files to see if cdma would be recognized easier. For those of you who have some time and want to test it out, please do so and let me know if cdma data recognize helps.

Ive send the changes to Klinux as well. If we have good results here, then we will included it in the main release.

-bootscreen was changed as well.

I didnt include the kernel version im using. I suggest try the latest from the glemsom builds

Well, this was a weird one. I've put your ZIP on my MicroSD, grabbed latest zImage and Module, ran it, but screwed up on calibration. Sense lock screen came up pretty fast, and I had 2 bars of signal. I couldn't do anything since of calibration screwup. Deleted tscalib file, and HaRET froze. Reformatted the card, re-done the process, and got back into Sense. After that. no signal. Phone is stuck in Airplane mode and won't come out.

Re: Sense working?

I haven't messed with it much but it works ok. I tried it with hw3d.force switch.

I forgot to make a new data.img and crashed like crazy and screwed up the previous build when I went back. Now I have two data.img files to make sure there isn't any conflict in settings.

Had to keep sim card out (put back in with last release).

First boot took up to 20+ minutes. Much faster with subsequent boots.

Hope the rootfs we have can have sense ui added to it easily.

Battery is normal for ALL WinMo devices running Android. As for data, are you referring to a Sense version or just regular Android?...there shouldn't be any problems with regular Android versions.

Data works if you take the sim card out and use all the latest build files EXCEPT the system.sqsh file (use the sense sqsh file).

Use a clean Data.IMG file or it won't work well at all.

Can't guarantee all the carriers but works on Verizon.
