I updated it with the new kernel (1250) with keypad backlight support and overclocked it to make it even super duper faster (fastest I've seen): http://forum.ppcgeeks.com/showthread...76#post2032576

thanks so much for that hybrid 1237 kernel..Im so pleased with it! works like a genuine android device in every sense of the word..can't wait to try your new hybrid kernel!

I've been using this thread to get the latest android port but it seems as if this has been left abandoned for a while. I've seen that another thread has "Tiad8's Froyo X distribution". Is that for developers only or is this the lastest "cab" for Andriod. ... I'm still really new at this.

Tiad8 has been making his own bundles. I'd say this thread still applies to 'vanilla' XDAndroid - updates will still come here.

However, Tiad8 has been working to get a lot of the things flying around nailed down into a bundle, which is great even if it is futile :p.

So feel free to use one of his bundles, there's not a huge difference between what he has and what is here - like I said, he's just trying to nail down a lot of things that haven't been committed yet into a bundle pack for newbies.

Im such a newbie when it comes to android I've tried to learn and it just hurts my brain. I really have a hard time understanding what does what. Ive read plenty of threads but without the basic understanding of programming its like trying to learn a new language without having a interpreter

I really wish I could have a simple cab install with all of android files like this thread use to offer. :(

because this has not been an option Im left leaving android for this phone or having it on but being very outdated.

This is not a complaint btw so theres no need to get upset.

I think the RAR bundles are easier than the cab. You extract it... and drop it on your SD. With the cab you have to drop it on your phone, then run it from your phone. Basically takes 2x as long to install...

Besides, the cab is a crutch. You'll learn nothing about how the system works by using it.

Honestly I'm not mad or trying to flame you - but if your attitude is "this is too hard", then wait until the project is complete. There's a reason it's called a 'project' - it's not nearly done ;).

We can work on making it easier when we're done... No point in doing that now...

Mod, I took Arrghhh's advice previously to not rely on the cab files and honestly did learn a lot more of what is needed to make this thing run. Now don't get me wrong... I'm not a developers by ANY means, hell, I'm not even sure what the hell a kernel does (other than to pop and have a nice buttery taste prior to me watching a movie...) but I've learned what files are required and where I'm moving this and that to and why I'm moving them. I've also learned a bit of trouble shooting when I have issues, all just by reading and re-reading. Shoot me a PM and we'll walk through anything I can help you with, or I'll give you a call/text (Like when you were unlocking and flashing your first ROM!!! lol) If you want a decent set up for now, take a look at tiad's thread, it's all the stuff from Wistilt, bzo, ACL, and every other developer but packaged up nice. I would recommend for you his 1.12 package, no bugs that I can really think of and runs smooth, or grab the latest reference set up and we'll walk through whatever you need.

If you're running Tiad8's 'Froyo X', you should probably post in that thread.

This thread is for the mainline XDAndroid, "Reference" builds.

Ah... I wouldn't use that build. Last updated on 9.28.... it's old.

As for the alternative, just download the reference build. FRX03, it's been updated quite a bit.

There's no difference. I assume tiad8 is using the *best* libGLES/gralloc combo, which ACL submitted to stinebd - so there should be no difference honestly.

ACL hex-edited the libGLES and bzo and ACL agreed on gralloc settings to match. So these are the same graphics/3d improvements that have been flying around and talked about, just finally committed into the main system image.

The only other difference with FRX04 is what stinebd pointed out - upstream fixes from Google, mainly security-related. Just newest from AOSP!

hey arrrghhh, so this is what i did trying to run FRX04:
1) downloaded frx03 package and extracted package, just using andboot folder (i updated startup.txt accordingly)
2) downloaded 1253 kernel/modules, replacing those in andboot directory
3) downloaded frx04-based system.ext2 and replaced the one in andboot directory
4) downloaded latest rootfs.img and replaced the one in the andboot directory
5) ran haret.exe (fresh, creating new data.img)
6) everthing boots up fine but after settling out, it still seems very sluggish; did the voicemail trick and sluggishness went away but still getting a lot of FCs.

not sure if i'm missing a step of updating some file to get to Frx04. oh well, i thought it would be as smooth as tiad8's distribution. i'll reformat my sd card and try again tomorrow.

It looks like you did have it create a new data.img. Not sure what it is about the first boot, but what I usually do on a first boot where the data.img is created, let it settle out (5 mins or so) then reboot to WinMo and boot Android again. Kinda annoying, but for whatever reason I have much better luck when doing that.

Also, I reused my data.img from FRX03. There weren't huge changes, and I was already using the graphics improvements.

Oh - I just thought of something as well. In your froyo.user.conf, make sure you're not mounting any of those graphics files. No need for that anymore - the only time you would need to do that now is for the libcamera file when testing cam.

arrrghhh, I did everything from scratch; not mixing any of tiad8's stuff here with this. I just took official FRX03 and updated the files (FRX04 system.ext2, latest rootfs.img from XDandroid.com, and 1253 kernel/modules). Yeah, since the 3D driver is already updated in the FRX04 system.ext2, no need for the special mounting in froyo.user.conf as you mentioned.

Anyways, per your suggestion of just letting the phone settle out for 5 or more minutes after the first boot and then rebooting into WinMo and then back to FRX04, everything is fine now. I, myself, am overclocking it to 710Mhz, so everything is really smooth and snappy. Gonna try to run some quadrant test to see how it is. Since I'm OC'ing, I set pm.sleep_mode to 1 to prevent SODs, per your suggestion earlier.

Viruscrazy just released a new camera kernel/modules/library update so I'm going to try it on top of FRX04.

If anyone is interested, I can post my All-In-One package I'm currently running; it's just the official FRX03 updated with FRX04 system.ext2, latest rootfs.img, and latest 1253 kernel/modules.

I'm getting a quadrant score in mid 500's. Getting some flickering during boot animation and during quadrant test. Tiad8's distribution seems better... he also had a different set of gralloc/3d driver files for later kernels or else it causes flickering. Maybe I need to drop to an older kernel and try again.

UPDATE: I installed Tiad8's patched angry birds; it runs pretty smooth but a small portion (horizontal) of the screen is messed up with flickering.

Regardless, FRX04 seems smoother and snappier than FRX03.

stinebd accidentally released an FRX04 with the new gralloc but without the new libGLES - make sure you have a new rootfs and the FRX04 image.

I didn't post in the forums until that issue was sorted out tho... So no body should have downloaded that bad image (I hope!)

The commit log on the 1/23 rootfs states:
Try dropping in FRX04-built RIL to see if there is any effect on system_server issues.

FYI, I still got an system_server 100% CPU just now on a clean data.img that was generated with that rootfs.

Guys does the new FRX04 reference include camera working and 3.5mm jack through headset working?

Do I just need to reformat my sdcard and extract the contents of the rar file to my sdcard.

Or do I need to go to tiad8's thread?

Please let me know thanks

FRX04 has nothing to do with camera or the extUSB headset - those are both kernel fixes.

So if you have the zImage 1253 (newest on GIT at the time of this post) then you'll have the extUSB fix. The camera fix is in a testing kernel, and entirely up to you if you want to run.

The bundle that Reef posted has the newest 1253 kernel in it.

MMS outbound works (with the correct carrier settings) but inbound does not work on any carrier AFAIK. Not sure what the exact issue is, but there's a thread dedicated to hashing out issues with MMS.

I'd like to get camera working in my FRX04 installation. It works GREAT in FROYO X on a different SD card but fails when I switched to the camera kernel and zimage after FRX04 was installed.

Froyo X and FRX04 are two different set ups, but both of them require additional files on top of the kernel. I believe Tiad made changes to his system.ext2 file and only mounted one file with the froyo.conf file while the original "test" kernel required more files. I don't have links handy to the test kernel but if you search around here you'll find it.

Read thru the testing kernel thread, there's three files you have to mount via the froyo.user.conf - libcamera.so, liboemcamera.so and libc.so.

arrrghhh, I had a chance to test the latest FRX04 updates (I guess there was an error you mentioned that it had the incorrect 3d driver library or something like that when it was first uploaded). Seems pretty solid, smooth and snappy; and best of all, no more flickering with the latest 1253 kernel. However, I still get sluggishness and FCs upon bootup; only way to get rid of them is to do the voicemail dailing trick. Other than that, it's pretty solid. I ran Quadrant (OC'ed at 710Mhz) and can only get a score of 560 (highest) as opposed to 1.12.2011 package that Tiad8 released (I guess he had an unofficial release of ACL's 3d driver and gralloc) in which I can get a score of up to the middle 600's. Gonna test this with viruscrazy's latest camera update and see how it goes.

UPDATE: Just tested viruscrazy's latest camera kernel/library; it works pretty well.

Woohoo, finally registered a score of 649 on my FRX04 distribution I have on my SD card after applying this change: http://forum.ppcgeeks.com/showthread.php?p=2045448
Thanks manekineko! Now everything is as fast as the Jan.12.2011 Tiad8's build. The voicemail dialing trick should take care of the sluggishness or FC's.

ok guys something interest I have found with FRX04

you now about FRX03 and FRX04 sometimes become very laggy. and then we have to call voicemail. I was doing some testing with frx04.

i was doing crazy stuff, press keys. opening apps like crazy to frx04 because I want to activate that bug I even reboot the phone.

finally, it got laggy, then a called my voice mail. it works like always. you know what i found that issue is with the APN setting. because frx03 and frx04 the apn is already set from the start. and sometimes. when you boot in android that setting get gets busy. that's why when we call voice mail. the call will cut the data that causing this. and the phone will go back to normal.

now this is what I did to FRX04. I implement my stuff in it.
CAMERA
APN. but you have to do it yourself
3D STUFF
APPS

Re: [CAB] GSM&CDMA Project Android Port and Startup Utility [01/23] FRX04 Reference!

OK, I got an all-in-one FRX04 package with the 1253 kernel OCed at 710Mhz if anyone wants to try out. This is not "my work"; it's a mere attempt at putting the pieces together from XDAndroid so that you can download a single one-in-all package for easier installation; the .cab and .rar install mentioned in the 1st post has been kinda hit and miss lately (for example the cab doesn't work and the install may be outdated as there are the recent fixes/updates). This setup resides in the "andboot.frx04" folder and is setup based on that folder so don't rename it. Here's the link: andboot.frx04.02102011.7z

Here are the simple instructions for the package I uploaded:
  1. Download andboot.frx04.02102011.7z to temporary folder on your PC
  2. Extract it; it will contain the folder "andboot.frx04"
  3. Copy the "andboot.frx04" folder to your SD card
  4. In WinMo, navigate to the "andboot.frx04" folder and run haret.exe
  5. Be patient on the first boot and let it settle a few minutes when you see the slider or home screen.
  6. Open Spare Parts and change End button behavior to go to home
  7. Goto to Settings - Call setting and set up your voice mail number, make a test voicemail call
  8. Goto Settings - Sound. Test the volume settings, test phone ringtones and notification ringtone
  9. Goto Settings - Display-Brightness. Select Auto to save battery
  10. Goto Settings - Applications- Enable unknown sources
  11. Goto Settings - Setting account & sync and add your gmail account. Let the phone sync. Do not touch. Wait for green light
  12. Launch the Market and let it download updates to the existings Google apps and install them; don't not touch until are updates have been installed. NOTE: it will be very very sluggish during this initial update, just relax and let it finish before attempting to use it.
  13. You're now good to go. If you have stability issues, you can remove the overclock setting in STARTUP.TXT; just remove the string "acpuclock.oc_freq_khz=716800".

UPDATE: 2/10/2011 - Updated package with 2/10/2011 XDAndroid rootfs.img (system_server bug fix); updated with viruscrazy 2/7/2011 camera libs/kernel (optional switch).
UPDATE - camera setup not working yet - I need to figure this out and update the package.
UPDATE again - Finally got the latest camera library (2/7) to work but only with the older kernel (1/23) that viruscrazy released; can't get his new kernel (2/7) to work; the package has been updated with the working version.

UPDATE: I just added viruscrazy's 02/07/2011 latest test camera kernel/library to the all-in-one package. It's not active at all but if you want to try it (remember this is just a test kernel so it won't be as fast or stable as the 1253 kernel above), just follow these instructions:
  1. Do the setup above first to get everything stable and solid
  2. Boot back into WinMo and use Total Commander to go to the "andboot.frx04" folder and do the following:
    • Rename startup.txt to startup.1253.txt
    • Rename startup.camera.txt to startup.txt
    • Rename conf/froyo.user.conf to conf/froyo.user.conf.1253
    • Rename conf/froyo.user.conf.camera to conf/froyo.user.conf
  3. Run haret.exe under "andboot.frx04" folder and you now have camera capability (use the Vignette software)

@Tiad8, I borrowed a few APKs (Vignette, TitaniumBackup, Angry Birds) from one of your system.ext2. Hope you don't mind :)

This package is not as fast as the Froyo X distribution by Tiad8 but it's almost there and is pure FRX04 based. It's pretty stable and responsive.

NOTE: Again, the package is tailored for Sprint so adjust the STARTUP.TXT for your carrier.
