Re: General Android on TP2 Questions Thread

Thanks for the help guys.. and thanks for putting up with me, I know you guys get 100 idiots like me each day but thanks for the patience and hopefully I will learn some so I dont have to be spoon fed through things.
Droid is working great, I just have to figure out how to get it off airplane mode. I think that i need to reboot with out the sim card in for this. Do i need the sim card at all if I dont plan on leaving the U.S.? I also cant get the internet to work, but ill keep trying. thanks again

100% of the airplane / data errors are sim card related. Take it out. You don't need it unless you are going overseas anyways.

Re: General Android on TP2 Questions Thread

The Android "Market" only shows free apps on my TP2. I've tried to find several paid apps that I know exist and they don't show up. I can find free ones just fine. IE: If I search on "dataviz" only the free Documents to Go shows up not the paid full version. Any Ideas?

Re: General Android on TP2 Questions Thread

In order to get paid apps to show up in the Market you might need to use Market Enabler to fake the phone's location. You should be able to find Market Enabler in the AnroidApps folder from 95-civic's original build.

Re: General Android on TP2 Questions Thread

I'm wondering how to retain all the new apps that we have on our phones once a new update comes along. I haven't been sneaking the new tar files and roots because I want to wait for official releases but once they come, I'm wondering if we'll need to reload apps OR if there is a way to keep them all.

Also along those lines, I found the "Back up settings" feature in the Android OS but does anyone know exactly what is being backed up?

Good stuff here guys, thanks!

If you update your "rootfs" file or any other file, you should be fine as long as you do not update or change your "data" file. That file is where all the app info is stored. I'VE updated my rootfs and zimage files a few times and am still able to keep my android home screen looking and my apps list the same.

Android is already rooted. Rootfs and data is just on your SD card running out of an image file. Squashfs mushes the rootfs image as a pseudo rom and your data storage as just a mount point I think...

The only thing I can think is to make a mount point for the Apps folder to be on a SD card. It would have to be mapped to a device ID such as /dev/sdb1 if such option is implemented.

Long time follower first time poster. I have been playing with Android on my TP2 all day and I still can not seem to get it off of airplane mode. I have taken out the sim card as instructed and I still cannot seem to make the airplane symbol over the signal bars disappear. I can receive phone calls and text messages but when I try to make a call out it says, “Not registered on network”. So I cannot make calls out nor can I send out a text message. What can I do to fix this? I would like to thank you in advance for all your help.
